At first blush this sounds like a ripoff by the Browns given Edwards' propensity to drop the ball and be a whiner. I'd rather have Stuckey on my team let alone the picks being sent for him.

Ryan benched him for venting on twitter about his lack of involvement in the offense after one game. Possibly the reason he was included.

Ah, I missed this. Yeah, and wow for him as some patience probably would have led to a building role given the clutch catches he was making. But the trade makes a lot more sense now, swapping malcontents.

ESPN has just Jason Trusnick and a couple of picks. At this point, Braylon has had one good year and some average years. As a Jets fan, I really hope they did not give up much in those picks. I have never watched Braylon play (not since he was tearing up my Spartans) , but looking at his stats, he doesn't seem like an improvement over Cotchery.

I am pretty sure that was David Clowney that was benched, not Chansi Stuckey.

Well, he would play the same role in the offense. The other WR's play ST, and/or have other roles (i.e. Brad Smith). With Edwards aboard, Stuckey could have dropped from #2 to inactive.

He had one great year but by and large has been a disappointment I believe- but look at his QBs, I don't think Sanchez is great right now- but in time they could be a good combo.

Cotchery is a possession rec. with no big playmaking abilities. He is an improvement over Cotchery.

Really strange trade for me.

Edwards and Ryan don't seem like the type of guys who can coexist. I know the guy has a ridiculous amount of talent, but to give up 2 players and 2 picks for him?

I heard the picks were a 3rd and a 5th. I have no idea who the Jets players are, but that's not a bad deal for them if Braylon starts catching the ball.

It also continues to make what the Lions got for Roy Williams look very good.

According to Rich Cimini, it depends on the CBA. Edwards might be a restricted free agent after the season.

I'm torn on the trade. They absolutely need a playmaker at that position, but if they're pepared to put up with a diva, why didn't they try harder to get Brandon Marshall in the offseason? Maybe Denver was asking too much for him, but I should imagine they gave up a lot (in terms of draft picks) to get Edwards too. Shame to see Trusnik go (a special teams beast, and he sounds like a Mangini guy - I can see why it happened), but Stuckey? He had his chance in New Orleans and came up way short. Good luck to him, but he doesn't have what the Jets need right now.

I know that Braylon was gone at the seasons end, but I thought that Cleveland could have gotten more than a 3rd, 5th and 2 backups.

I feel your pain. The entire Marinelli Era was spent picking up former Buccaneer players, typically defensive linemen. It was brutal.

It has everything to do with him running his mouth while destroying the Browns 2008 season last year after dropping 20+ passes and then crying that the fans hated him because he went to UM

That's where I'm coming from on it, put nicely by Abner. As a New England fan, I think this is great, but as a football fan I think it's a horrible move by the Jets.

Meh. Seems like a fairly low risk move to me for the Jets. Rex Ryan will just hit him in the mouth if he gets out of line. And Edwards has a reason to want to at least produce somewhat, because if he can't make it New York, he'll get TO treatment and he's not even good as him on a good day.

But...the Jets needed another receiver and they didn't give up much.

The key here to me is Stuckey. Edwards COULD be an upgrade, but based on his drops and attitude I don't think so. But I've only seen Stuckey in one game (the New England one) and I can see from the game log that he has not done much in the last two games, so maybe I have a skewed view of him. But when Edwards drops a key pass in a key game (and he will), how will he hold up to the New York media? I guess I just don't see trading much of anything for Edwards.

Edwards is at least an elite talent. Guys with Stuckey's ability are littering the waiver wire. They're a dime a dozen. On his own, I doubt he'd garner a 7th in trade. If Edwards does not pan out (and I'll admit, the odds seem against it) they can go get another Stuckey off the street.

Edwards has shocked me. When he wore the Maize & Blue he seemed light years more mature than he has since. I had hoped he might end up with Bubbles, the mean lion on his helmet... I think he could look great opposite CJ.

This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the same guy who traded two first round picks for Joey Galloway. In fact, with these boneheaded trades, cutting Jimmy Smith back in the day, and an inability to successfully draft a decent WR for 17 years (unless you want to count Antonio Bryant who was also traded for a sack of beans), that might be the worst position Dallas has handled in the past 17 years.

I don't disagree with this. . . but. . . If Stuckey developed further, he could be an asset. Especially in an age where everyone is looking for the next Wes Welker. I guess the answer is if Stuckey devlops into another Welker type of guy or ends up being a scrap heap player.

The ST guy, whoop de do. The picks? Those are huge. I think we all know by now that if you aren't building your depth through the draft, you have problems. The top teams all use the draft to their advantage.

I think this is a bigger risk than you do. If it busts you lose a young WR with potential and some picks. The other interesting thing could be the special teams guy. The Jets are ranked as the team best defending kick offs by Football Outsiders through week 4. The guy they traded shows up in the stats with 6 tackles and a forced fumble.It'll be interesting to see if the Jets have anyone to fill that void.

All that said, I don't disagree that it's worth a shot. The guy has talent. On that there is no question. But I do think there is a chance this will hurt the Jets down the road if it doesn't work out.

He's nothing close to Wes Welker, he is a deep threat, not a precise route running,YAC kind of guy. He's fast. Meh.

Cotchery has been super consistent this year and is emerging as one of the best possession and YAC guys in the NFL. If Braylon can even live up to 80% of his potential, this will be one hell of a receiving duo.

The way Gholston has played, he might be sent back to do that job. Especially with Calvin Pace coming back from suspension.

I work in Detroit and have been to Cleveland many times as I have a lot of family there. As a city, Cleveland does have more going for it than Detroit, but that bar is pretty low.
