This is huge as Bryant is probably the best WR in college football, especially with Floyd injured.
Not sure how shocking it is though because it seems like from reading Rivals and such that Ok. State is the unanimous "dirty" program in the Big 12.
From ostate.com (STILLWATER, Okla., Oct. 7, 2009) -- Dez Bryant has been ruled ineligible for a violation of NCAA bylaw 10.1(d).
Oklahoma State University has already begun the process of applying to the NCAA on his behalf for reinstatement.
This incident does not involve anyone associated with the OSU football or athletic department staffs, any employee of the university, alumni, donors, or any third-party affiliated with OSU.
OSU is taking this step because Bryant failed to openly disclose to the NCAA the full details of his interaction with a former NFL player not affiliated with OSU.
The University issued the following statement from Bryant: “I made a mistake by not being entirely truthful when meeting with the NCAA. I sincerely regret my mistake and apologize to my teammates, coaches, OSU fans and the NCAA.”
OSU coach Mike Gundy said: “We are certainly disappointed, but we are moving forward as we would with any challenge during the season.”
Due to the ongoing investigation of this matter, OSU has no additional comment at this time.

So what year is he? UFL time?

He definitely WAS considered an elite prospect for the 2010 draft.
Although if this is a taking extra benefits issue, I think the NFL honestly does not care about that as far a character issues. What he would lose is more chances to show he's a great player. Not sure how big a deal that is.

From what I've read, OSU reported him and that resulted in his ineligibility. So, they reported a violation not connected in any way to the program, and that somehow affirms them being "dirty"?
Seems to me they're handling this one by the book...or trying to, anyway.

Hmm...it would be interesting if UFL or even NFL were to pounce.
Did the NFL Supplemental Draft already occur? I think it did.

Still waiting for a real fucking apology from someone who actually cares about what they did and how they are perceived by others. This incident is probably pretty low on the "needs to apologize list", at least from the available information, but I am so tired of the scripted bullshit that passes as an apology these days.

Why are they going after Bryant? He's a good kid. They should go after Coach Gundy. He's a man. He's 40.

Not sure what else he would be saying in this particular situation...

I don't think he needs to jump into any league right now. He is widely considered to be the best WR coming out. Might see him fall to late first round or something, but his best route is still the NFL Draft in April.

Guess he won't be going to the 49'ers now.

He didn't actually commit a violation. He lied about his actions because he thought they might be a violation. He was suspended for lying. He apologized for lying. What else you looking for here?

Yes, Deion was his "Advisor" . I'm not really sure what rules were broken, but I' like to hear more about it.

The thread title made me think he had robbed a Dillard's or something. Lying about talking to Deion Sanders?
Ok, maybe he should be kicked off the team.

He's not necessarily done for the year, he's just ruled illegible until they sort out these shenanigans.
That might spare OSU from having to forfeit games going forward.
10.1(d) is a pretty broad bylaw, so we don't really know anything about what happened. I seriously doubt he's banned forever if all he did was lie about a meeting.

This just makes the NCAA a bigger joke. He can't play because he talked to a former NFL athlete?

yeah, I stopped playing Pro years ago because I found it diminished by enjoyment of watching the NFL - last year I got talked into playing a keeper college league and it is actually a lot of fun, way better for me personally.

Another one of the stupidest things about the NCAA. They really need to think about all these antiquated rules...

No, he can't play because he LIED about talking to a former NFL athlete who is a borderline agent for a lot of these kids: see Crabtree, Michael.

Now I understand why he would be suspended if this is the case. However, how can you be a "borderline" agent? Either you represent them and are compensated for it or you are not, right?

Tough break...still think Benn is the best NFL talent in CFB(Anquan Boldin part deux, imo), too bad he is stuck with Juice Williams as his QB.

Trying to remember what the right term is: facilitator? He isn't an "agent", but he spends an awful lot of time getting these kids set up with their contracts and careers. That's what I meant. His name keeps popping up with all these just-out-of-college kids that are busy screwing up their NLF careers, or at least it seems that way. Crabtree wasn't the first time his name came up, and now it's coming up with Dez Bryant.
And if there wasn't any fire behind the smoke, why did he lie about it? His comment was that he was concerned he HAD violated NCAA rules.

I wouldn't be surprised if he got compensation for steering players towards certain agents.

If he has any kind of conscience, he already knew if he did something wrong or not. From the way this situation is shaping up, it looks like he indeed does have a conscience.

The question is not if he did something wrong, its if he did something against NCAA rules. There tends to be a gulf.
Even if Deion was an agent runner, there would be no violation for spending time with him, right? Only if he received some sort of benefit?
