I love soup. I have loved soup all of my life. I love cooking and my favorite thing to cook is soup. I relish the challenge of coming up with new, creative and delicious recipes. My dream is to someday open a soup and sandwich shop. No, I am not joking.

Now I need your help, FOFC. I am having the soup version of writer's block. It's a cold, miserable day, and I must make soup, but I am stumped. I've made so many types, that I don't know what to do.

Please help me FOFC. Please give me some ideas. I do not want recipes, just general ideas for a wonderful soup. I will choose one, and then hopefully create a masterpiece. The soup will be named after the winner.

That is all.

I'm thinking chopped-up chicken & chorizo sausage with long grain rice & zucchini.

That sounds tasty. Schmidty pick this one, so you can name it after him. Please?

I want a green soup that looks like vegatables but has a good bacony meaty taste.

I would call it "Big John and the Sausages".

Isn't that split pea soup pretty much?

How about two spicy capsicum soups, one made from red and one made from yellow. Pour them slowly into a dish from opposite sides (and as close to the base of the dish as possible) and they will meet in the middle but not mix, forming a soup in two separate halves and colours.

Crumbled up bratwurst and beans sound like a great start to me. Green onions too.

That sounds beautiful, but I think I want some type of protein in this soup. I think I'll try your idea sometime though.

We make a red lentil soup with carrots and coconut milk that's really, really good.

I'm thinking something like this...Sausage and spiced chicken, okra (love it), carrots, rice, and some finely-diced red bell pepper. Try it in a medium chicken broth with just enough cayan to give it some zing.

I'm thinking a Pacific Northwest take on New England Clam Chowder. Gotta use geoducks instead of the littleneck clams though. :)

I say some sort of cream based soup with potatoes, onions, carrots, bacon and leak. Throw in some pepper and a little garlic powder.

Ok, I just got back from the store. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I definitely took some of the ideas.

Here are my ingredients:

4 fresh jalapenos
4 fresh serrano peppers
2 large tomatillos
2 sweet onions
2 carrots
2 celery
1 lbs Russet potatoes
Bulb of garlic
Blackeyed peas
Chicken breast
10 oz Beef chorizo
10 oz Pork chorizo
Chicken stock

I'm going to root around my spice rack, grab some stuff, and get this sucker started!!!!

Got another idea: POUND SOUP!

Get 1 lb each of a bunch of ingredients. Mix, cook, serve.

Crab Bisque is pretty good, but Jambalaya is one of my favorite things on the planet.

Schmidty, next time go for a Tortellini Soup - Carrots, Celery, Yellow Onions, Tomatoes and Chicken all in a hearty Chicken Stock broth, but use Tortellini (preferably cheese) instead of Rice, Beans or Lentils.

Oh man, my mouth is watering!

Looks like I'm late but I was gonna suggest some sort of Spicy Taco Soup with chicken instead of beef. Maybe use chipotle peppers instead of jalapeņos.

I used to love experimenting with soups when I worked at a gourmet sandwich shop.

I might make potato tomorrow. I had an epiphany the other day. Use bacon grease for the roux.

Instead of bacon try procuitto....it's and italian type of bacon.

One that always went over good was "confetti chicken rice". Just make a basic Chicken and wild rice soup but I would add in a bunch of small diced carrots and colored peppers.

We used to make a tomato bisque that was amazing too. I can't quite remember the recipe but it was so good. Especially with multiple grilled cheese sanguiches.

When making soup how much stock to water ratio you use?

None? All adding water to stock does is weaken the stock.

Now if you mean base, which you mix with water to form stock, I just use the measurement off the side of the jar.

If you mean you actually made a stock from boiling down something, you just add water till it tastes right(if it's reduced too much)

sounds good, but that shit is too expensive for me. I kind of have the rule of thumb where if some ingredient were to cost more per pound than beef tenderloin, I just have filet instead.

+1

Plus I try to make my own stock when I can, and then freeze it. It still taste great when thawed.

I am a huge soup eater (and a vegetarian).

The Turkish place across from my workplace makes a red lentil soup that I can eat nearly every day.

Then one day they rolled out a spinach soup (without the leaves) that is out of this world. The next time I have it I'll try to figure out what's in it.

What I like about both of these soups is that they're clearly made without a meat stock, which is hard to find around here, where you can tell that the onion and mushrooms soups, for example, were built around something with a face.

Take one can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup, one can of Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup, and mix with one can of water and one can of milk. For extra flavor, try adding less water. Heat to boil, add ice to cool, then serve.

Well, the flavor was out of this world (according to my wife), but it would have been much better it had been creamier. If I ever make it again, I'll use extra veggies, and then after they get soft, I'll puree them in the blender.

I will be making my next creation on Sunday. :)

No woman has to "figure out" how to lie. It is ingrained in their very being.

I know what you mean, I was a vegetarian for 15 years and it's hard to eat out. But all I can think of reading this is a soup with a face floating in the middle.

I can probably make a chicken pozole better then any other Caucasian person in the world.

My mom makes a kick ass Broccoli Potato Cheese soup that is thicker then molasses. She counters that amazing soup by making this horrible 27 bean soup that taste like water and dirt
