Speaking of concepts that seem outdated (family dinnertime conversations), here is my contribution:

"Honey, I think that fans of football should not have to endure watching the Super Bowl with people who are only watching to see the commercials."

I learned today that widespread circumcision in the US was enacted by "civilized whites" who believed in a neural disease called neurasthenia. They felt that the body had a nervous force and masturbating robbed the body of that force, causing this disease. They felt circumcision would prevent men from doing it.

I believe that very often, contestants on Final Jeopardy bet only just enough to beat the 2nd place contestant if they bet all their money, but they might as well bet it all, since if they get it wrong they're not winning anyway.
