View Full Version : Migrating to new computer - mltiplayer leagues

I have gone through the initial stages of loading up onto a new computer -- unlicensed FOF7, reinstalled it on the new computer, and that seems to have worked fine.

I tried to save some time with my MP leagues, backing up all my files from the old and pasting them into the appropriate folders on the new.

As of now, I can load up my MP league and it opens and looks correct as of the time of the backup, but I get an error message when trying to get the latest files. I seem to recall FOF being finicky about files and folders (and how the got created) and I'm guessing I'm caught up in some of that nonsense.

Anyway, before I through the full reloading of all my MP stuff (passwords and IP credentials and so forth) I thought I'd ask... anyone have any hints here that could save me time?

1. Maybe check for case sensitivity?
2. I haven't had to do this in the FOF7 era, but I do recall that in the last two games to copy a SP game you had to create the universe folder yourself and just copy the files into it. You could not copy the folder. That was in the FAQ at his site. I wonder if it's the same way here that you need to create a folder and copy the files.

on 1. I'm not entering a password anywhere... I presume the league password and ftp stuff is cookied somehow in one of the FOF files.

on 2. Yes, at that level, I saw that problem coming...I started the game and let it create the universe and leagues folders from the game, and only then pasted in the league-by-league subolders therein.

The error I get now is the "download failed, this might be because your league is uploading" or something similar to that. No opportunity to re-enter my ftp credentials or whatnot.

Starting over isn't a crisis, but if there's an easy workaround OF COURSE I want that. #angleshooter

FWIW, copying the stuff from the old FOF app data folder to the new one worked for me this week.

Thanks...maybe I shortcut too deeply? Did you move folders one by one or something clever? I'm pretty sure I copy/pasted my 5 folders under "leagues" on my backup drive to the same place under the new appdata folder.

Hmmm...

I started over, tried this again, and it seems to be working now. Many thanks.

When I installed my new HDD, I was unable to import files (and other stuff). I had to do the league setup over again, at least to the point where the game created the league folder for me. Then I was good with pasting stuff in, but I couldn't get the permissions to play right by copying the entire folder wholesale into the LEAGUES directory.

I think that's where you're at, too (and now fixed!) but thought I'd mention my experience as well.
