Defensive Player Perfromances

Hey everyone,

I wanted to start off by saying that I saw this game on Steam last week, bought it on Thursday, got it to work on my Mac on Friday, and have hardly stopped playing it since. This game is amazingly fun and addictive.

But as a new player, I am still getting into the swing of things. As the years have gone by in my Franchise my offensive players have performed well, but my defense has been lacking. I think it's because the offensive metrics are easier to recognize and understand. I can tell when an offensive player isn't living up to his standards or is slipping with old age.

So how can I tell when my defensive player is playing well? What stats/metrics/whatever should I be looking at when analyzing a defensive player's performance (based on their position)?

It changes season by season depending on results, but a general rule of thumb I use is:

Pass Rush > 5% is good
Pass Defense > 80% is good (for DBs, lower for LBs, ignore for DL)

Outside of that you can use the basic metrics for the NFL. A DE or OLB getting 20 sacks in a season is awesome. A DT getting that is night unheard of.

I should clarify. I saw it on Steam (first time I had ever heard of the game). But I actually downloaded the game from the Solecismic Software website so that I could install and run it using Wine (https://www.winehq.org/).

I have noticed two things not work correctly this way: 1. The scoreboard (which is a bummer) and 2. the end of season summary. Other than that, it works like a charm.

I've heard you can install Steam using Wine and theoretically play Windows games through Steam that way, but I've never tried it.

I messed around with all kinds of winetricks, and couldn't get that scoreboard to work. I never use it anyways.

You can install Windows steam with crossover pretty easily. Then once you install the steam games(I tried Fallout 3) it works easily.

I kinda feel like 6.5 or so is the minimum I'm happy with out of a rush end and if you can get that outta two guys(at least) you'll win a lot of games.

I tend to look at it collectively on the team summary page. Are we a top 10 pass rushing team? Are we a top 10 pass coverage team? What can we do to become top 5? And then I attempt to upgrade the players with relatively inferior ratings and performance.

Also if you're dealing with players that are strong in areas like run defense and weak on pass rush, you can find specialty players to play in Nickel.
