After Cam Newton retired, my Hillcats team really couldn't find a QB so we morphed into a run heavy offense. Tyrus Zimmerman was the #2 pick in the draft and was an absolute beast for 7 seasons before beginning to decline and then quickly retiring at age 30. I had hoped that he would continue to play for at least 3 more seasons, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Jeeeeeeeezus. Something interesting in those numbers too, his 3rd down carries dropped like a rock toward the end of his career, subsequently knocking about a yard per carry off his average. I feel like maybe 3rd down running is a little OP in the game after seeing something like this.

One thing I noticed is that those linemen who are like literally a 0 in pass blocking and a 75+ in RB are friggin' gods in a run setup. Yeah they'll give up like 10 or so sacks a year, but they won't give up like 50 sacks like you'd think.

I tend to agree with that assessment. It seems like players with one skill much higher than others tend to be exceptional at that skill, and not as bad as one would expect at other skills. Purely anecdotal, like my thoughts that the flu virus is actually a good thing for your team to come down with.

I would assume that the reduction in carries would be due to someone replacing him as the short yardage back.

Right, and he lost a full ypc by not running on 3rd downs anymore.

Why he stopped running doesn't matter so much as he stopped running on 3rd down and subesquently ran for 1 ypc less.

Could also be he took a ratings dump that year. Dunno.

So is your thought that it's something like blocking strength can stone enough defenders on a dice roll that it never bothers to even roll on the pass blocking? Something to that effect?

I'm purely experimenting in SP using essentially default gameplans, but it seems like you can build some beast running teams with a talented back. But if you're not focusing enough on run blocking a guy that looks like he should be pretty serviceable(4.3 or so YPC) will be brutally bad(mid 3s)

Okay, so I guess one of the guys I had was pretty good in that rating, like in the low 80s, and roughly got sacked about one time a game. That explains a fair amount I'd assume. The 2033 guy was pretty bad.
