View Full Version : Need Help From Keeper Trainers

I've done some tinkering with my team and I know if I continue to train defense two of my players will pop to solid the final week of the season against the worst team in the series. I won't see any benefit in that game, but I would imagine it'll cost me a pretty decent pay hike in the offseason.

Yesterday, I pulled the following goalie.

Jessie Warner
104 000 US$, 17 years, passable form

Stamina: wretched Keeper: inadequate
Playmaking: disastrous Passing: disastrous
Winger: disastrous Defending: disastrous
Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: disastrous

As you can see he has NO secondaries to inflate his value, so my question is, about how many weeks is he from popping to passable?

While you're here, same question regarding my starter...roughly how far away from solid is he?

Lonnie Nolen
191 000 US$, 19 years, passable form

Stamina: wretched Keeper: passable
Playmaking: disastrous Passing: disastrous
Winger: poor Defending: disastrous
Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: weak

While I wouldn't drop my defense training, I wouldn't be averse to taking a few weeks off in order to make my keepers better as it would save me from having to buy one and/or I could sell and make a decent profit. Thanks in advance to any who respond. :D

Warner about 3 weeks
Nolen about 4

when I trained my 2 keepers before I sold them

inad went passable around 150k
passable went solid around 290-300k

I haven't trained keeper in a couple of weeks but that's what it
was when I did

with a solid coach and good number of GK asst. you 'might' be able
to pop Warner in 2 weeks, maybe

And you'd imagine wrong --- salaries are based off assessed value (with form taken out of the equation) so they don't "pop" like skills do. That high passable is going to cost you more than a similar low passable next year.

Not sure I get what you are saying there. If you mean you won't get anything from your player popping to solid, then it's not the way to see it. Player skills are not integer values, like passable=6, solid=7, etc. There are values in between that we don't see, that's why we often talk about a guy being a high passable or a low solid, etc.

Between the game before your player pop to solid, to the game where he actually pops, your player will only go from a 6.9 to say a 7.1 defense rating. So you won't see a very significant increase in his level of play from one week to the other. We only sell players when they pop because it fools other owners in buying players that look more attractive (solid looks a lot better than passable on paper)...

Not much to add to your keeper training strategy, just thought I'd share my thoughts about that sentence. Also, at that point (last game of the season) I would definitely wait if you want to sell your solid trainee...

Good luck!
