For the second straight week, I will win by a walkover as the Michigan Moon Shine did not answer my request. This is getting a bit rediculous.

at least you're almost a certainty to advance past the group stage!
maybe next year we could have a stricter process for team sign ups to avoid this sort of thing.

That's a good idea. And I would also like to see the rules followed next year as well.

cthomer, I know the process might not have been very strict, but HornedFrog made a roll call, in which MikeVic said his Goldfish was in and where mrrush said is Cowtown FC team was in. Mike has not logged into HT for over 2 weeks and Cowtown has ceased existing.
We got 84 teams playing in the group play, 84!!! We're bound to have misfires like that. I don't know how we could have been stricter, other than running a background check on players (okay I'm being sarcastic here  ). Maybe we could have replaced the team when they first had a walkover, maybe... Hindsight is 20/20.
Sorry, I just feel that saying it's getting ridiculous is a bit much...

Yeah, I know CT, sorry I didn't want to put words in your mouth. Sorry about that. But you catch my drift...

Gotcha. Hope I haven't come off as too critical in any messages related to the cup, i think it's been run brilliantly. If anything I've just been trying to give suggestions or constructive criticism for future cups. It'll always be tough to weed out the deadbeat owners.

I mean if the rules say a walkover is awarded if the match isn't accepted by 5pm EST, then a walkover should be awarded if it isn't. Especially if a post has been made saying one was awarded.

You should address that privately to HornedFrog.
If it were me, I would not have cared if I had a W/O or not, deadline or not. This cup is for fun, even though I play my "A" team, but that's only because I can play my "B" team in league play and still win and auto-promote.
You do have a point.
I remember what game you are talking about, but I don't remember you making a big deal about it when it first happen though, maybe you said something about it and I simply didn't catch it... Before you say something, yeah I remember the private message you sent me. Just never got around to put anything on the site...

No, I'm fine with with what you (or what everybody( has said so far. What I meant is exactly what you said at the end. It'll allways be tough to take care of the deadbeat owners and more importantly, it'll allways be impossible to make everyone happy...
Out of 84 participants, we have 3 non-participating team. That's really not that bad...
As I said, we could have replaced the bad owners as soon as it first happened, but then we tried giving a second chance, then... You know what I mean. It's also the first time we deal with group play of that size. That's a huge tournament...

It just occasionally ticks me off a bit. Especially when I think about how I should have 9 points and +14 goals. I just thought this would be the place to address the issue and keep it from happening again, since the subject of what to do different next season had been raised.
On the subject of how to handle no-shows, maybe we can get some input from some of the people who run large cups to see what they do. Maybe if someone no shows their whole schedule can be replaced with 0-5 walkovers? I still like the way we handle it when people are still in their national cup.

I hear what you're saying Nyar and understand your intentions now.
What I think on the walkover thingy is that maybe the 5-0 is a bit too much. That may have to be talked about a little...

We should see what the average scores for the last place teams in this years cup is to see what is appropriate.

well.... in group G we have 2 non-participating teams and the Slumlords are all but inactive also. He may accept friendly's, but he does't pay attention to the boards or attempt to challenage anyone.
Group G defintely got screwed in this cup.

Speaking of constructive criticism above, I see that this is not it...
I said 3 inactive teams, my poor friend, 2 of them happened to fall in your group. It's not like anybody made sure you'd get a sucky group. MikeVic was active at the beginning of the cup, don't know what happened to him. About Slumlords, well I'm not sure where I read that somebody had to be a regular poster around here to be considered active. This is a game, we do it for fun! Maybe the dude has some business trips around his HT participation... Oh well...

i was just stating a fact and not complaining. im not sure why you feel the need to get so defensive about everything that is said about the FOFC cup. I appreciate everything that you guys have done.
If you were in my group you'd be a little upset also. we aren't "blaming"" you, sometimes shit happens.
I said 3 inactive teams, my poor friend,
i think that was uncalled for

Not sure exactly but I think Havok's point might be more that he'll accept challenges if it's presented to him but he's not really bothering to try to participate (y'know, challenge occasionally or maybe post to check in to say "challenge sent" or "booked"). If that is the case, I'd be pretty annoyed (with the person) too because it'd give me the sense of "fine, I'll do it if I must".
But I definitely would have to say that 3 out of 84 is a damn fine percentage on something like this.

To be honest, Havok . . . as a third party observer, your original post sounded far less than pleasant. Speaking strictly for myself, I think the "getting screwed" line was a bit harsh (even if circumstance did make it unfair for Group G'er). While I can understand the frustration of not getting to have the same fun as you should have been able to, it's only 5 games and there's only 2 left. With all the walkovers and no-shows, you're fairly certain to be in the next round. Then you'll be amongst the participants (where you, too, can have your trainees broken by the Mighty Bastards!)! :D

if i came off as "offensive" or mean in any way i didn't mean to. I didn't wanna offend Froggy at all or anyone else for that matter.
I guess "screwed" wasn't the best word to use :(
i'll go with 'unlucky'
Group G defintely got unlucky in this cup. :)

Now we're friend again. :) I agree with unlucky, screwed had some intentional twist to it, and since I participated in doing the groups with HornedFrog, that may be the reason why I came off all defensive... Sorry for the "poor friend" thing.
It was all a matter of luck, really, since all groups (other than the one last extra group) had teams from all over the rankings, so each group had just as much of a chance to be stuck with some inactive owners...
