One more reason why the 3-5-2 rains surpreme....

ok... i just got done playing my FOFC friendly and the ratings kinda bothered me.

Nyar ran a 3-5-2. His 3 defenders got a whopping 5 stars and his goalie got 2 1/2. Thats 7 1/2 total.

i ran a 5-4-1 and my 5 defenders picked up 10 1/2 stars and my goalie got me 2 1/2 stars. Thats a total of 13 stars.


Somehow we still got the same defensive ratings.

Just doesn't make alot of sense me, i could be wrong. Im just trying to figure out how the HT engine calculates defensive

I'll be running a 3-5-2 next year in league games, simply because its much more important to have 1 more forward then 1 more defender.

Depending on how the midfields were set up, as well as the defensive abilities of the midfielders who played normal or defensive. It would have an impact on the overall defensive rating.

Without looking at anything, that is one plausible explination.

actually i asked this same question on the Conferance boards trying to figure out how this happened and they all said that that coaches play a big part in it. I never knew that the coach had such a big impact.

At least now i know and im kinda glad actually. I like the fact that coaches play more of a role then just training.

The reason I guessed right off that it was probably the coach was because it was something I actually took into account just a few weeks back when I grabbed a new coach.

At the time I was switching from a 4-5-1 in competitive play to a 3-5-2 to give myself more versatility in attacking opposing teams strategies. Being that I'm a defensively minded GM, I figured I'd go with a coach of the same mindset to make up the loss of a man in the backfield. I was pleasantly surprised when I put up my best defensive ratings in team history the next match.

Thats when I realized just how big a difference a coaches mindset makes, atleast at the lower skill levels.

I think its more like 2 levels, atleast when dealing with the weak-formidable range of skills.

I'm told that the coach will add one level to the final score of the side (offense or defense) they favor.

As far as your team's layout goes . . . Your keeper is in inadequate form so his normal/passable value is probably not that far from Nyarlahotep's. So that part probably didn't make a big difference. da Silva's "offensive" instruction is likely the cause for your right side defense being one step below the left. Viet-Tan is a passable defender but is playing offensive and is in weak form. Rohn is also in weak form and his defense should probably not be spoken of, especially playing offensive.

All those probably combined to give you a weaker defense than you expected. However, given the quality of your keeper and starting defenders, playing your midfielders offensive shouldn't hurt them. Especially in your current 4-5-1.

I think this week's ranking must be a fluke... I was 37th last time around... jumped into a tie for 20th... I doubt it'll stay that high.

Then again, if there's a hot woman at stake... ;)
