I was wondering YOUR thoughts on some trainees...

Don't have to go into great detail about each one... I'm trying to find a good value but don't want to make any costly rookie mistakes. If you could add what you would bid(if you needed a Playmaking M.I.) that would still make oit a good deal/value. Thanks!

He's well worth it if you can get him.

I personally wouldn't go higher than about 25k this late in the season.

"havent" has an apostrophe between the "n" and the "t" at the end of it. Until this is changed, I doubt anyone will take this thread seriously. :)

Okay, I think I am done now. Good luck in the future BillyMadison, maybe one day we will become best of cyber buddies and we will have many a chuckles at are little spat. :)

BTW, looks like a good prospect. I picked up one similiar with passable defending also. His value was obviously higher, but he won't need nearly the stamina training to be effective and should soon be a solid contributor to your squad.

Thanks... 25k eh? I was told no higher then 15k for each inad. playmaker... BUT Im assuming based on his nice secondaries his value increases! I AM NOT TRYING TO answer my own question... I SWEAR... Just want to amass everything I have been told from people who have helped me along the way... THANKS! I bookmarked him and will try and get him at a good price(I aint staying up that late though! 4 AM deadline is a killer!).

Heres another one...

I think he's worth it too, would probably go a bit higher than CW, but not by much. Maybe up to 30k.

I was limited with Subject line space on that one.

Reason why you can go to higher than 15 is that he's passable in passing and that will help boost your attack ratings. If you go and train him up from inadequate to passable, then maybe to solid, then you'll have a very good player, much more solid than if he had wretched passing, for example...

It's not all etched in stone, as has been said, a good inner mid needs to have a good set of playmaking, stamina, passing, and defense, but one that would be passable in all of those would be a perfect trainee...

I paid 49k for a guy with inad playmaking, but passable defending and passing. When he reaches excellent or even solid, his secondaries will make up for me overpaying for him now.

At least that is what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.

Remmeber that you are allowed to make rookie mistake. As long as you make them on 25k guys, that won't hurt you much. What migth hurt you is going on a coach hunt and never being able to stop because you want the "perfect" coach, or going for too big of a stadium upgrade, that drops you in debt, or getting caught in a bidding war and paynig 200k for an aging solid defender, those sort of mistakes will hurt you...

If you stay discipline and buy many 25k guys, you'll most likely get your money's worth out of them...

FM--- You are the man!

How many "trainees" should I get... After the 90k I'll get from my sale of my top player...i can spend a little... some people have suggested that "use that money to "trade" for some trainees". 4-6 sound good?

Also, when is it time to start focusing on other parts of the squad... I NEED a wingback and a central defender... is it fair to say that its not worrth going for a 20 year old defender since i'm not training that?

Thanks.

P.S. Nice thrashing of that lowly squad in the friendly today!

You don't need a wingback, set a regular defender to defensive in the wingback position, you'll be fine...this is all in the ABC's of Tactics.

I agree with Qwik, go to this site (ABC of Tactics) (http://hem.passagen.se/hammervald/abc_of_tactics/abc_of_tactics_index.htm) and read everything carefully. When you're done, play with your team and the next day, read it again :)

I've read that stuff about four times when I first started.

Regarding trainees, you can have as many trainees as there are spots in your midfield. Since your team might not be very good at first, you could play trainees as your starters as inner mids. That would mean you would need 6 inner mids trainee. You would play your best dude as your starting 3 inner mids...

I currently have 12 midfield players. That includes 2 regular starters at inner mid and another one who is my regular offensive winger. I have 3 I expect to see pop very soon and I want to sell as soon as they do. That leaves me with 6 3 of them are 17yo passable playmaker and they get their game every week at inner mid and my last spot is alternated between two guys. My very last guy is a 20yo, sort of a mistake, inadeuqate playmaker that I bought for only 1k at my very beginning. He gets to play whenever someone is injured, like is the case right now, as I have two on the sideline...

dola, and btw, that team I beat today (Ardent's Raiders) isn't really a lowly squad. It's only that I played my "A" team while he played his "B" team. Had he played his "A" team, I would have probably lost or it would have been a heck of a close game. Maybe my ball control would have kept him from scoring too much...

I thought he didn't really know Ardent... :) I agree about the win, but more than that, I'm happy we got so good ratings (57 with a solid midfield) and with ratings like that, now I feel confident I can stand strong in a D.IV league in Canada when I promote at the end of the season...

Hey what's with me dropping like a rock in the standings, my confidence is going...guess I'll have to scratch and claw my way back up.

Standings, schmandings. Anyone could have a good team, but not everyone can have illfated attempts to take over the world. If they made standings for that, I would be the champion. Or at least top 1000.

Before you decide what to do with your training program (whether or not to go after players with good secondary skills), you should decide what you want out of it. Personally, I train midfielders, and I have 3 'trainees' that are really my starters. They are guys I'm going to continue to train up, but I'm not going to sell them. These three I want to have high secondary skills. The other three (the 3 I play during friendlies), I'm just training up to sell, so I don't mind so much if their secondary skills aren't so hot. In your case, I think I'd try to get three good young middies (ie with decent Passing/Defending skills), and then just spend the minimum on inadequate playmakers with no secondary skills. This last week I picked up 3 inadequate playmakers with inadequate or better stamina for $3,000. When you sift through the markets, just keep your requirements strict...Inadequate or better stamina, max age of 17, only inadequate playmaking, and under 10,000 current bid.
