Barcelona have offered us 21.5 million for James McFadden today. McFadden is getting older and has had injuries this year, but he is still my 3rd best striker. I counter with 50 million. If they want to offer that much, I'll let him go.
Covelo has been sacked by Valencia.
Chelsea have paid 5 million for Jordi, a good young right fullback who was with Deportivo.

Today we host Arsenal in an EPL Match. They are in 8th place, but I'm not taking them lightly. I'll be using my top lineup today (despite just playing 4 days ago, I won't increase my chances of losing to Arsenal of all teams.) Arsenal is led by the dynamic scoring of Lukas Podolski who has 10 goals on the year. Midfielder Mario is playing great. Left winger Jose Antonio Reyes is still excellent at the age of 29. Salomon Kalou is a good right winger. Joseph Yobo is a good centreback, however, he might struggle as Ashley Cole is injured and the rest of his fellow defenders haven't been playing well. Manuel Almunia is still the primary keeper, but he is starting to fade in skill.
We are 5-4 favorites.
It's raining with temperatures in the 40's.

I still can't believe we blew the quadruple so early in the season. Today we host Everton in the first leg of the English League Cup Semi-Final. We still have a shot at the treble, and I don't want to let that get by me. Everton has been surprisingly good in the EPL this year. They are 4th in the EPL and they are doing it behind a diversified offense. Strikers Nathan Ellington and Mauro Di Mauro are having a great year. Centrebacks Anthony Gardner and Sean Brady are difficult to score against. Aaron Lennon has been a very good right winger and Andy Reid hs having a great year on the left side. Ceiran Hutcheson is a good enough keeper.

WOW!!! Chelsea have agreed to the one-on-one transfer of Freddy Adu for Christopher Eagles!!!! I don't see how this helps them, unless they desperately need a right winger as Adu has a MUCH higher value, but I'm jumping on it!
I never thought they would actually agree when I made this move :)
I just need Eagles to agree to this deal and reject all of the other deals now.. ;)

Chelsea have given me permission to contact Adu. Adu wants 100,000/week as well as a 5.6 million dollars signing bonus, 5,800/goal and 3,000/assist. The board will only allow me to offer 5.2 million as a signing bonus, but they will allow me to offer up to 240,000/week. I decide to offer him a 3 year deal with 120,000/week as a base salary.

Today we travel to play coventry in an important EPL game. They are currently in 14th and we are in 2nd. I need our 2nd stringers to play well today and show me they are capable of beating weaker teams. Coventry is led by young striker Wayne Worthington who leads the team with 10 goals despite only starting 10 games. He has been a sub in 10 other games. Keeper Marco Tedeschi has had a great year so far. Right winger Dani has played very well. Striker Shola Ameobi remains a veteran threat to score. Martin Scott is a decent centreback who is having a rough year.
We are 4-7 favorites.
It's overcast with temperatures in the low 40's.

DARN!!! Eagles rejected the offers from Inter, Juventus, and most importantly Chelsea! He has agreed to terms with Lazio. Do I dare back out of the deal at the last second. That is so fraught with danger. Chelsea might not agree to the deal on the second time, or Eagles might refuse to go. Also, I'm sure I'd take a professionalism hit.. Thoughts anyone?
I'm going to save the game and think about this for a while.

Chelsea just lost Arjen Robben, their starting right winger for 3 months. I forgot to post that (it happened after they accepted the Eagles trade.) So, now they desperately need a right winger. However, I still think you are probably right and they probably won't accept the deal a second time. I agree that I should have waited a bit more before accepted a deal, but I thought 27.5 was about as good as it was going to get (he is only valued at 20 million right now.)

Liverpool have sold top youngster Jordi to Atletico de Madrid for 25.5 million. Liverpool fans are livid at the sale of their favorite youngster.
Chelsea have offered 25 million plus John Hall (a good young left winger who starred in my most recent U21 England match) for Eagles. I counter by asking for a straight up trade for Freddy Adu.
I thought this was freaking hilarious, the way you were tripling everyone's offers that you didn't want to deal with and then just stuck Adu in there. Then they said yes, and I almost died. Then I thought oh no, why didn't he cancel all the other offers? Then...oh man, HOW COULD YOU SCREW UP YOUR CHANCE TO GET ADU AND STICK IT RIGHT UP CHELSEA's ASS? sigh...i'm so depressed. I recommend you go back to the save game right after chelsea accepted and get it right :)

Cox was being offered by either Milan or Juventus. Lazio was just offering the 27.5 million. Therefore, I've made up my mind. I'm going to risk the professionalism hit, and cancel the deal. I'm going to try to make the Chelsea deal work. I won't go back in time to a previous save as that would be too much of a cheat to me.

Today we host Newcastle in an important EPL Match. They are currently 6th in the EPL, but they are missing several of their better players due to injury including star strikers Jerain Defoe and Ricardo Oliveira. James Milner is out of the midfield due to his injury. Right fullback Ian Robson, Left winger Charles N'Zogbia and left fullback Jlloyd Samuel are all injured. They will be relying heavily on star keeper Jesus to keep them in this game. Left winger Hatem Ben Arfa will have to have a good game as well. It looks like they will end up starting Diomansy Kamara at striker, but that is far from his best position. Scott Murphy and Per Kroidrup remain a strong pair of centrebacks who are very good.

Yeah, I like to rotate guys particularly for the first half of the year to keep guys fresh for the stretch run. I usually keep rotating guys IF things are going well, but now they aren't. Yeah, I like to rotate guys particularly for the first half of the year to keep guys fresh for the stretch run. I usually keep rotating guys IF things are going well, but now they aren't. Therefore, you will see me using the same lineup more games in a row during the stretch run now. Again, this is part of the reason that I had to move Eagles.
I'm sure you've got a workable system, but what I've found works well is to play one team in league matches and the other in cup and European matches. It seems like cohesion is extremely important in FM and this rotation does a decent job of keeping players fresh and playing together.

7 minute mark: Downing passes to Rooney in teh box.. he blasts a shot at the upper right corner.. very good save by the keeper.
8 minute mark: Taylor stops a powerful shot from Raul.
13 minute mark: King gets the ball at midfield from Taylor.. he passes it long to Rooney.. Rooney burns the defense.. dribbles into the box.. fires a shot.. lower right corner.. GOAL!!!! 1-0.

32 minute mark: Raul passes to Stead in the box.. he shoots.. Taylor blocks the shot.
34 minute mark: Schreurs passes to Rooney 30 yards out.. Rooney shoots immediately.. trademark power banana shot.. severe curve.. the keeper dives.. it is out of his reach.. into the upper right corner.. GOAL!!! 2-1.
40 minute mark: Downing passes to Rooney in the left side of the box.. he fakes out a defender.. shoots the sharply angled shot.. upper right corner.. GOAL!!!! 3-1. That is his hattrick!
43 minute mark: Raul passes it into the box.. Gallagher shoots.. Taylor blocks it.. Stead beats Ferdinand to the rebound.. shoots.. upper left corner.. GOAL. 3-2.
Halftime: 3-2 lead for us. They have over 31,000 fans here today.
47 minute mark: Schreurs passes to King in the right edge of the box.. he passes it to Rooney just inside the center of the box.. Rooney blasts a shot between two defenders.. into the upper right corner.. GOAL!!!! 4-2. That is his 4th goal of the game. Oh yeah, 2 goals ago he had his 20th of the season.
74 minute mark: James Faulkner passes to Edu in the box.. he shoots lower right corner.. GOAL. 4-3. Least I'm seeing that Taylor might not be the guy to replace Howard after all... I was about to pull Rooney, but with the lead down to 1 goal, I need to leave him in. King is also tired, so I put Smith in for King. I also put Godoy in for Schreurs.
81 minute mark: Godoy gets the ball from Taylor.. dribbles down the right sideline.. burns a defender.. crosses to Smith.. he settles it.. shoots.. lower right corner.. GOAL!!!! 5-3.
85 minute mark: Godoy passes to Smith in the right edge of the box.. he centers it to Rooney.. Rooney shoots.. upper right corner.. GOAL!!!!! 6-3! That is Rooney's 5th goal of the day.
Game over. 6-3 win :) That is more like it.
We outshot them 13-9 (11-6 on target)
Rooney won MoM, 10 for form, 20 of 21 passes, 1 of 1 tackles, 1 of 5 headers, 1 interception, 12 runs, 5 goals!

've signed Christian Tiffert to a Bosman deal. Tiffert is a 30 year old right winger who is a true speedster with decent skill levels. He does everything reasonably well, but nothing great except for run past people. I offered him 30,000/week and see him as insurance.
He will arrive on Aug 1, 2013 when his current deal with Siena ends.
OH MY!!! Chelsea accepted my generous offer for Adu!!! Now, some of you may think I overpaid, but I feel the need to re-energize my offense. Adu is only 23... so hopefully it was worth it. What did I give them?
52 million dollars, Barry Parker, 50% of next sale, and 18 million after he plays 30 games (which will happen sometime next year.)
Adu's agent wants 100k/week, 5.6 million signing bonus, 5,800/goal, and 3,000/assist. I can only go up to 5.2 million for my signing bonus per the board so I go up to 120,000/week in wages.

Oh well, no Adu for us (at least not this year.) The transfer window has closed and apparently we didn't have the money that was needed to get the deal done before the window closed.
The board is pleased with my performance.

Aston Villa's Wayne Dunn has won the EPL Young Player of the Month. Paul White of Leicester came in 2nd, and Philippe Durand of Tottenham came in 3rd.
Newcastle's Steve Bruce has won Manager of the Month. I came in 2nd, and Jose Mourinho of Chelsea came in 3rd.

Today we host Millwall. They are 20th in the EPL While are in 2nd place. Millwall's offense has been anemic with striker Simeon Jackson the only player to score more than 3 goals (he has 6.) Their defense is solid but without any offensive support, they are getting beaten frequently. Centrebacks Mark Phillips and Simon Marshall are playing great. Right fullback Nyron Nosworthy has played well this year too. Bill Barron is doing well as a left winger. Maurizio Tommasi is playing well in goal, but he appears to be getting discouraged by the lack of offensive support.
We are 1-2 favorites.

Does the game require that I have that future 18 million dollar payment available in my transfer budget now? eaglesfan27,
as far as i know, this is the case. You have to have the cash in your current transfer budget to cover the future payments.
fwiw, i did make the trade for rooney for lampard...
As a result, i was able to part with eidur gudjohnsen for $30m to Valencia.
In rooney's first game, chelsea's 36 match unbeaten streak came to an end 1-0 against 4th place birmingham.
odd trivia note: chelsea beat leicester in the earlier cup semifinal... 2 matches later, chelsea beat leicester in the 4th round of the later cup...
and we have caught the dreaded terpkristinitis as there are 10 players out injured on the senior squad and a couple of players on the reserve/u18 squads...
which brings up another question, when you get a player back from a 5 month injury, how do you get him back into match fitness beyond just playing him? do you send him to the reserves or..?
keep us up to date...

Yeah, I guess I did have to have the money. It seems odd that I would have to have the 18 million dollars when it was completely impossible for him to reach the mark of 30 league games for us that would trigger that clause. Oh well, there is always next year to acquire Adu. ;)
Sorry to hear that Rooney's first game didn't work out for you, but I'm sure he'll be excellent once he settles in. I'll tell you that he didn't do crap for me when I had him as the right striker, but I once I made him the left striker he has been dynamite.
Anyway, I'm off to bed (been doing some research on wireless 5.1 speakers for the last half hour or so.)

i believe the poor result to be a result of a number of things since they only got the one goal at the 4 minute mark of the game... the full back on that side has a 4 or 5 for form after the goal and through 20-25 minutes later, still a 5, so he got pulled...
also, i think the injuries, and as a result of all the injuries, the conditioning also caught up... i had 1, yes 1, player who was not listed as a starter or sub for the game.
other than that, i hate this game. you know what i mean :D

Today we travel to play against Manchester City in an EPL Match. Manchester City is currently 14th in the EPL while we have taken over 1st place!!! They are suffering from a weak offense and a defense that isn't good enough to compensate. Their best player this year has been midfielder Said Boutahar. He has set up 6 of their goals. Left winger Ryan Smith has played well too. Their best defender has been Centreback Damien Delaney but he is suspended for this game. Their keeper, Libis Andres Arenas, is very acrobatic and could shut us down by himself if he is playing his best game. Deivid is their leading striker with 7 goals.
We are 4-5 favorites.
It's sunny with temperatures in the high 40's.
We are in 1st because Liverpool lost 4-3 to Leicester in their last game which escaped my attention til now. Aston Villa and we are tied with 58 points, but our GD is best in the league at plus 30.

Striker Marcio Marreiros also has 10 goals, and left winger Helder Barbosa also has 10 goals. Striker Tiago Maia has 7 goals. The good defense is led by centreback Thiago who is playing well. Today we play Liverpool in the English League Cup Final. Liverpool is currently suffering a rash of injuries and have lost quite a few matches recently. Their list of injured players that definitely won't be playing include: Valdo, Andres D'Alessandro, Steven Gerrard, Liam Ridgewell, and Nigel de Jonh. In addition, Jamie Carragher and Nigel Reo-Coker are questionable. However, Liverpools dynamic pair of strikers are healthy and full of vigor for this match. Dijbril Cisse and Yakubu each have 27 goals on the year. They are an amazingly explosive duo. Right winger Luis Garcia has chipped in 7 goals, and no one else has more than 5. Chris Kirkland has been good, but occasionally inconsistent in goal. Djimi Traore has just been an average defender this year.
We are 5-4 favorites.

to complete the explanation, MOTS designs an attitude you can ask of your players in Hattrick. It gives you more possession, thus giving you a better chance of winning. The drawback is that it "drains" your players, make them lose what we call "team spirit" and they will play badly for a few weeks, when you tell them to "play it cool" and they regain the lost "team spirit". That way, it often leads to your team winning the one big game, but sometimes losing a few games after that... :D

I decided to extend Dave Ryan's deal as he has been a good outfield coach. He wants 7,500/week which is a nice raise from his current salary of 4,600/week. However, I think he is worth it and offer him this rate for a 4 year deal.
I also approach Tony Coton who wants a raise from 5,600/week to 9,200/week. I agree to this deal for 4 years.
Carlos Queiroz's contract is up at the end of this year. This 60 year old is a superb assistant manager. He is currently making 11,000/week and wants a raise to 20,000/week. I agree to his request as he is truly invaluable.
Ivo Ulich, one of my physios, wants a raise from 550/week to 3,200/week. I agree.
Paul Underwood wants a raise from 550/week to 1250/week. I agree.
John Cooke, an excellent outfield coach, wants a raise from 4200/week to 7600/week. I agree.
Paul Thompson wants a raise from 700/week to 6,400/week. I think this is a hefty raise for this keeper coach, but he is young and full of potential. I agree to this deal if he makes it a 4 year deal.

Salva, the 20 year old Italian centreback has requested a transfer. I really don't want to lose him, but I understand his frustration. He wasn't as ready to play as I thought he might be. I will grant his request and hope that he reverses it at some point. I really think he has tremendous potential as a centreback.

Today we travel to play Chelsea in a key EPL Match. We are currently 2nd in the EPL while Chelsea is currently 5th in the EPL. Chelsea has been led by the dynamic scoring of their Adriano who leads the team with 26 goals. Adu is the second leading scorer with 11 goals, but he is injured for this game and definitely will not play. Joe Cole remains a dangerous midfielder who score or set up his teammates. They have a new keeper in Federico Donatelli and he is quickly establishing himself as a very good keeper. Centrebacks John Terry and Naldo are playing well in front of whoever is in goal. Petr Cech is recovering from an injury and might take over goalkeeping duties soon once again.
We are 6-4 favorites.
It's sunny with temperatures in the mid 50's.

Today we host Real Madrid in the 1st leg of the Quarter Finals of the Champions League. Real Madrid is a masterful team who fortunately will be missing multiple players due to international play! Specifically, their best striker Fernando Cavenaghi, their 3rd best striker Horacio Peralta, their best left winger Mark Gonzalez, the left fullback Maxwell, their 4th best striker Edixon Perea, and Michal Kowalik are listed as being away on international duty. Their second best striker Nilmar is injured. Their top midfielder Francesc Fabregas is also injured. To be honest, they are going to have a hard time lining up 18 men (11 starters and 7 subs.) Vincent Kompany is a top notch defender and he will be difficult to get past to score. This should be a very interesting match.
We are 6-4 favorites.

Looking at their starting lineup, it is clear they are relying on multiple very young players including striker Tucker who played for my England U21 team last week. Their only veteran players on the pitch are centrebacks Vincent Kompany, Pavon, and keeper Iker Casillas (who could shut us down by himself if he is playing at the top of his game.)
6 minute mark: Smith passes to Djemba in the box.. he shoots.. upper right corner.. Casillas dives.. blocks it.
9 minute mark: Downing passes to Schreurs in the box.. he shoots.. upper left corner.. the keeper blocks it.
22 minute mark: Alan Smith steals a pass from Casillas to Kompany.. he blasts a shot from 30 yards out into the wide open net! GOAL!!!! 1-0.

Halftime: 1-0 lead. We have over 91,000 fans here today.

56 minute mark: Downing passes to Rooney in the left side of the box.. he shoots.. wide left into the sidenetting.
61 minute mark: Rooney passes to Smith in the box.. he shoots.. the keeper blocks it.
71 minute mark: Stevanovic for Djemba, Godoy for Schreurs, and King on for Smith.
85 minute mark: Godoy with a brilliant dribble around two defenders.. crosses long to Downing left of the box.. he passes to Rooney in the box.. Rooney shoots.. the keeper blocks it.. Rooney gets the rebound.. blasts it into the left upper corner! GOAL!!!! 2-0.

Today we play Liverpool in a key EPL Match. I think it is vital that we win this road game if we are going to win the EPL. Liverpool has been hurt by late injuries and this greatly increases our chances. The injured include: Valdo, Jamie Carragher, Liam Ridgewell, Nigel de Long, Gael Clichy, and Jose Luis Abad. In addition, Michael Owen and Andres D'Alessandro are both doubtful for this game. However, Liverpool will still be tough because of keeper Chris Kirkland and strikers Djibril Cisse and Yakubu who are all healthy and very talented. We need to shut down those strikers who both have 27 goals.

Review of the Top of the Table:
1st - Aston Villa. 19-10-4 record. 67 points after 33 games played. Goals for 53. Goals against 23. Remaining games: Chelsea at home (4th), Birmingham (12th) on the road, Liverpool (2nd) at home, Leicester (7th) on the road, and Leeds (16th) at home. Doesn't have any non EPL matches left which is an advantage for them. However, they only have one truly easy game (Leeds.)
2nd - Liverpool. 19-6-7 record. 63 points after 32 games. Goals for 61. Goals against 30. Remaining games: Fulham (8th) at home, Arsenal (9th) on the road, Aston Villa (1st) on the road, Newcastle (5th) on the road, Everton (6th) at home, and Middlesbrough (15th) on the road. Still has the FA Cup matches. Also, suffering from multiple injures. Middlesbrough is the only easy game remaining.
3rd - Us! 15-14-2 record. 59 points after 31 games. Goals for 50. Goals against 23. Remaining games: Leicester (7th) at home, Tottenham (10th) at home, Leeds (16th) on the road, Birmingham (12th) at home, West Ham (17th) at home, Newcastle (5th) on the road, and the Wolves (19th) at home. We are still alive in the Champions League which could cause more "extra" matches than either of the top 2 teams. We also face the challenge of a string of 5 games in 2 weeks. On the plus side, three of our games are against relegation battlers and this is the easiest of the top 3 teams' schedules.
4th - Chelsea. 15-13-4 record. 58 points after 32 games. 51 goals for. 31 goals against. Remaining EPL Games: Aston Villa (1st) on the road, Everton (6th) at home, Middlesbrough (15th) on the road, Arsenal (9th) on the road, Coventry (18th) at home, and Southampton (13rd) on the road. They still have UEFA matches and FA Cup matches left. Their squad is getting thin. However, they also have a favorable EPL Schedule down the stretch with only 2 really hard matches.
5th - Newcastle. 17-7-8 record. 58 points after 32 games. 51 goals for. 33 goals against. Remaining EPL Games: Leeds (16th) at home, West Ham (17th) on the Road, the Wolves (19th) on the road, Liverpool (2nd) at home, Manchester United (3rd) at home, and Arsenal (9th) on the road. They are still alive in the UEFA as well. They have a healthy team. They have 3 easy games followed by 3 challenging games. They might be the deciding factor in who wins, but are unlikely to win the EPL themselves.

Today we play Leicester in an EPL Match on our home pitch. We are 3rd in the EPL. They are 7th. Leicester is thriving on the amazing scoring of Dean Ashton. I had a chance to get this guy when I first came to Manchester and am disappointed that I didn't. He plays so far above his talent it is amazing. He has 33 goals in 38 games! The second leading scorer is Jafeth Asprilla who has 11 goals. Edgar Barreto is a very talented right winger. Rohan Ricketts is a good midfielder. Paul Gallacher plays great in goal despite the defensive line playing poorly. Jonathan Spector has been the most consistent defender for the past few weeks, and he hasn't been great or even very good.
We are 4-6 favorites.

Now, I find myself having a tough choice. Do I let Adriano stew for a bit, and maybe have him play inspired football showing me he is worth more money?
Do I risk his anger if I don't offer him more money soon enough?
Do I risk the anger of Howard and others if I give him more money too soon?
Decisions.. decisions.

Today Aston Villa and Chelsea play each other. At the same time, we will be playing Tottenham on our pitch. We are in 3rd place in the EPL while Tottenham is in 10th. Tottenham is dangerous because of their very acrobatic keeper, Jesus. Ledley King is a good centreback, but he is unhappy at Tottenham. Actually, most of the team is very unhappy right now. Carlton cole is the leading striker with 20 goals. Second leading scorer, Daniel Omoya Braaten, is injured for this game. Philippe Durnad is a good midfielder as is Pedro Mendes. Pedro is currently transfer listed by request. Matthew Taylor is a good left fullback who can really get under the opposition's skin.
We are 4-5 favorites.

Fortunately, most of their team is unhappy. Hopefully, this will aid us. They are led by a dynamic pair of scorers in Obina and Alessandro Portioli who each have 17 goals on the year. Fabio Simplicio has become a top notch defender. Emilson Sanchez Cribari is also a very good defender. Daniel de Ridder is a good right winger. Sebastien Frey is a top notch keeper.

EF,
I've been watching your recent games, and in almost every one, it seems to be scoreless until the 60th minute or so. Given the early season trouble with the scoreless ties, incredibly suspenseful! Fortunately you're getting some clutch goals and putting these games away.
Any idea why the scoring explosions don't seem to happen until so late? Does your team have such superior fitness that they're just wearing everybody down?
Anyway, good luck down the stretch in the Premiereship (I'll be honest, I thought you were toast a while ago) and in the final of the Champions League!

I'm not sure why we are breaking out of our scoring slump in the 60 minute area. I do think we have better conditioning than some of our opponents, but that doesn't explain it all. I'm almost afraid that my guys aren't trying their hardest until the game becomes urgent. I feel like that has been a problem all year, particularly with Adriano. Now, that he wants a new contract, he is playing much better.
I also thought I was toast in the EPL for a while there. I'm just hopeful, we can pull out these last 3 games and keep our fate in our hand :)

After the match, Newcastle's Steve Bruce told reporters that he thinks we are going to walk over the competition in the last two games and definitely win the EPL Title.
I hope the guys don't become over confident.

Today we host Birmingham which is currently in 13th while we are in 1st. Liverpool (2nd) and Newcastle (5th) will be playing at the same time. Birmingham has a solid trio of scorers in Dmitry Sychev, Christophe Mandanne, and midfielder Scott Parker. Robin van Persie is still a very good player. Centrebacks Matthew Upson and Mourad Benhamida do a good job. Keeper, Jose Moreira can be very good some games, but bad other games.
I'm taking a risk and giving my top team some rest...
We are 4-7 favorites.

5 minute mark: Schmidt steals the ball in our zone.. passes long to McFadden.. he dribbles past two defenders.. passes to Stevanovic in the middle of the box.. Stevanovic blasts a shot.. right at the keeper.. he partially blocks it.. but it sails past him into the goal! GOAL!!!! 1-0.
13 minute mark: Schmidt dribbles up the left side of the pitch... he crosses to King in the box.. King heads it.. into the upper left corner.. GOAL!!!! 2-0! That is King's 10th goal of the year. I really need to start playing Schmidt more.. he has potential to be great, and is already good.
30 minute mark: Schmidt steals it at midfield.. passes it to McFadden in the box.. great pass.. McFadden fakes out the keeper.. shoots.. lower right corner.. GOAL!!!! 3-0. That is McFadden's 10th goal of the year!

65 minute mark: Howard stops a 15 yard shot from Sychev (set up by van Persie)
70 minute mark: Salva has played well, but I'll put Cahais on for him now. I'm also putting Smith on for McFadden.
82 minute mark: Alfonso steals the ball at midfield.. passes to King who is 30 yards out.. he surprises me by showing speed.. King outracing the defenders.. into the box.. he blasts a shot.. over the keeper's right shoulder! GOAL!!!! 4-0 That is King's 2nd goal of the game.
90 minute mark: Cahais trips van Persie just outside our own box.. yellow card for Cahais.

I miscalculated. If we lose by a high enough number of goals, and Liverpool wins by a high number of goals to equal the 7 goals differential, we could lose the EPL Title. Regardless, we have almost 2 weeks til the Champions League Final, so I plan on playing my best team even though we are playing the Wolves which are a relatively weak team.

Today we host the Wolves who are 19th in the EPL. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough is playing Liverpool. The Wolves have had a tough time due to a below average offense coupled with a very bad defense. Alexandr Orekhov has been an average defender, but he has been the best of their defenders. Michele Sardo is a decent keeper that they just acquired, but he is facing too many shots. Stuart Taylor has been demoted from the top keeper spot, after a series of bad games. Their offense is decent and is led by strikers Bruno Moreira and Stefan Moore who have 14 and 10 goals respectively. Seyi George Olofinjana is still their best midfielder.
We are 4-7 favorites.

The fans of Manchester United are overjoyed as Christopher Engles and his players continued the team's proud tradition by winning the English Premier Division. A spokesperson for the official supporters' club stated that Engles was the sort of manager who simply lived and breathed success.
In a statement released to the press, the Manchester United Board have also stated that they are pleased with winning the competition.
We were given 21 million dollars in prize money for winning the EPL!

Today we play against Mallorca in the Champions League Final. Mallorca finished 4th in the Spanish First Divison. They are a talented team led by a dynamic striker named Guiza. Guiza is 32 years old and is a bit slower than he was in his prime, but he is a goal scoring machine. Javier Ernesto Chevanton is also a very good scorer who has 20 goals on the year, and David Aganzo has 15 goals on the year. Right winger, David Toledo a technically gifted player who can make guys miss him. Centreback Steven Taylor is a very defender. Daniel Jarque is an above average centreback. Their keeper Bruno has been very good this year with 21 clean sheets in 45 starts. He is a 26 year talented Brazilian keeper. Juan Arango is a 33 year old left winger whose skills are fading fast, and he isn't that good any more. However, Mallorca keeps relying on him. I hope Schreurs can light him up.
We are even odd favorites to win this game, while Mallorca has 9-4 odds to win.

In other news, I hear that England's U19 team beat N. Ireland 3-0 despite my not being there to manage them.
Now to the important Post Match Info:
We were given 8 million dollars for winning the Champions League! :)
I awoke the following morning to find the following three articles in the newspaper:
Engles one of the top English Manager
Christopher Engles has at last staked his claim that he is one of the most successful English Managers of all time, boasting a managerial record that is comparable to the greatest. The accomplished Manchester United boss has shown himself to be no stranger to success and is likely to add to his growing collection of silverware in the near future. He is being considered for indcution into the Hall of Fame, and if he continues to thrive he will be considered among the greats like Bob Paisley and Sir Alex Ferguson.
The second article:
Engles praised by the Manchester United Supporters
Fans of Manchester United were justly proud after the team returned home with Champions League Title. Fans and pundits alike were unanimous that the person responsible for the team's success was Christopher Eagles. The Manchester United Board have also revealed to the gathering journalists that they were happy with winning the competition.
The third article was a short blurb about us winning the double.
We have been given 24 million dollars from the Champions League Television revenue.
Finally, the team's statistician tells me Downing's 18 MoM awards is a new team record.

woot...woot....when's the next season start? <DUCKS>
Well, I actually have a summer full of quite a few international competitions :)
Also, I'm on call this weekend. Also, I need to do a quick summary of the leading goal scorers, average form, etc ;)
However, I suspect I'll be starting the next season sometime later this week. I face a big challenge as Lucio and Ferdinand are starting to show their age. My defense is going to get old quickly I suspect. Howard is getting old as well which is even a bigger challenge. I think Marchetti, Cahais, and maybe Salva are about ready to step up, but I'm not convinced yet about Taylor one way or the other. Should be some interesting challenges next year.
Oh yeah, Djemba is getting old too. I have several good "depth" midfielders but no other blossoming stars except for Cook. I need another star midfielder in the near future.

OOC NOTE: Thanks to Frogman for the player comparision tool which is the basis of the following post:
March 23, 2013 -
With the season over, my coaches have prepared a report of who they think has improved the most over the last year and who has regressed the most:
Biggest Improvers:
Alfonso - This young left winger is finally coming into his own. He is becoming quite proficient at crossing the ball, dribbling, heading, passing, and his technique has improved. He still lacks flair, but he is a solid backup left winger. His agility and balance which were already superior appear improved.
Jamie Cook - This young midfielder has become a superb player even at the age of 20. He lacks footspeed, but makes up for that with superb off the ball skills. He has become one of the best passers in the game this last year. He has also become one of the best long range shooters this past year. He has superb creativity and flair which have improved this past year. He is a superb corner taker as well. He has an excellent dribble. One area of concern is his lack of a good first touch, but that is starting to improve.
Gabriele Marchetti - This young Italian centerback has continued to gain strength, stamina, agility, and balance the past season. He is better at positioning himself, and he is making better decisions. He has become superb at marking players and heading the ball. I wish he had better jumping skills, but he is going to become a prominent centreback.
Antonio Ortega - This young right winger may have taken more forward steps than any other player on my squad according to my coaches. He has become a very good crosser, an excellent finisher, goood at free kicks, and much better at the mental aspects of the game. If he can continue to improve, he has a chance to become a very good right winger. I'll need to continue to work him into games to see if he can continue this pattern of improvement to become a legitimate very good player.
Barry Parker - This young midfielder has improved his balance, agility, positioning, and all of his technical skills. Of note, he has become a superb man marker and a very good header. He could become a much more important piece in the midfield.
Wayne Rooney - Amazingly, our coaches think this superstar has improved this past season in multiple areas. In particular, he has become a significantly better passer, better off the ball, a better decision maker, and better at taking free kicks and penalties.
Mickael Schmidt - This young left fullback has taken astounding leaps according to our coaches. In particular, his positioning is much better. His tackling has become lethal. He has become a better passer, long range shooter, tackler, dribblers, header, and he has better mental attributes. He is much harder to rattle. He has become a clear starter at left fullback if he doesn't regress during the summer.
Biggest regression:
Wes Brown - Still starter quality, but his technical and physical abilities are just starting to slide. He is a step slower.
Damien Duff - Lost a significant portion of his good speed. He is no longer an EPL quality player. We will let him go after this season is officially over.
Lucio - He is starting to lose his stamina and strength, but he is still a top notch starter. However, if he loses much more during the summer it could be a problem.
John O'Shea - He is starting to lose his technical abilities, but not much else.
Mikael Silvestre - Without a doubt, our biggest loser. He has lost a tremendous amount of footspeed in just one season and is no longer quick enough to play on this level. He also lost all of his acceleration and a bit of his technical abilities.
Louis Saha - Lost his remaining speed, and is now a slow player.
Ruud van Nistelrooy - has lost almost all of his speed, and some of his shooting ability.

James McFadden has revealed to the press that he is unhappy with not playing on the first team and he wants to be traded soon if he isn't going to become a first team player :(
Gabriele Marchetti has been called up the Italian U21 Team.
Jamie Cook, Michael Wood, Bob Wright, and Daniel Rowland have been called up to England's U21 team.
Alfonso has been called up to Spain's U21 Team.
WTF!?! Chris Kirkland has rejected my callup to the England National Squad as a replacement player! Is he mad that I haven't called him up sooner? I need a replacement player as Milner is hurt, and I thought I would pull the talented keeper up, but now I will look at another option.
Wow. Kirkland has told the national media that he rejected the callup, because he should have been on the original squad and he wasn't going to let me use him as a second fiddle.
I called up Shaun Wright-Phillips instead.

That jerk. Jeroen Schreurs went to the media to tell them that he feels he deserves a pay raise to bring his salary up to those of his teammates.
Adriano is also making noise about wanting a pay raise, but at least he is doing it privately.
Despite his loud complaining, Jeroen has become a superior player. I decide I will offer him and Adriano a new contract immediately.
Jeroen is requesting 120,000/week (was making 57,000/week) and my AM thinks we should pay him what is asking. He is also asking for a 3.2 million dollar signing bonus which I will give him.
Meanwhile Adriano is asking for an astounding 5.4 million signing bonus with 170,000/week! My AM thinks he is worth 150,000/week. I decide to split the difference at 160,000/week. He also wants 9,000/goal and 7,000/assist which I agree to as well.
Wow. The media has asked me if I would ever put Kirkland on the England National Squad again after he rejected my callup!
I respond, "Kirkland must apologise before I even consider him for another call-up."
My personal assistant has reminded me that the following contracts expire in a month:
Phil Neville - No intention of renewing it.
Louis Saha - Definitely no renewal.
Andy Ford - This youngster just hasn't shown signs of improvment. He is gone.
Ben Walters - Ditto.
Bob Wright - This 21 year old striker has shown some promise, but not enough to keep him around. He wants 23,000/week to stay, and Mr. Queiroz and I both agree that Wright isn't worth it.
Excellent, Salva has settled here in England and has now asked to be removed from the transfer list. I agree to his request.
Now it is time to get ready for my England U21 game against Latvia before our national squad plays theirs.
