View Full Version : Fab Five (FBCB Interactive Dynasty)

This will be my 3rd attempt at an interactive dynasty. Hopefully it will finally work.

Idea: I want to take a mid-level school (Central Florida) and see what happens when you get 5 blue chip recruits to commit to go there. 5 FOFC'ers will get to be those blue chip recruits.

House rules:

1) I will not be handling coaching duties. I will create a coach, but I will leave almost everything up to the computer.
2) One thing not left up to the computer will be training, which you will get to decide for yourselves.
3) I have turned on limited conference movement. Hopefully we'll be able to move up soon.
4) I will leave early departures on, but I'll make sure each of the Fab 5 will stay in college for each of the 4 years by editing the league if they declare.
5) I am limiting the first test run of this dynasty to 5 people. If I actually finish it, I'll try something more ambitious next time.
6) Please respond to this post by claiming a position. The first person to claim each individual position (C, PF, SF, SG, PG) will get that spot.
7) The player details sheet will be in the next post. When you've claimed your spot, please fill that out.

Sucks because some of those ratings are static (intelligence and 3p usage).

Also, is this potential or current? I hope it's current and you have some formula to create the potential, cause if this is a potential skillset, he's not even a blue-chipper!

I'm using the generic "A" for Potential fromt he PLayer Editor Screen.

I think you'll be better than you think. Since I'm using the player file, you'll get to train before you even step on the court for the first time. I've already tested the other two guys and they're doing pretty well.

Tendency to foul? In which case would it be better to have a higher or lower score?

New Central Florida Head Basketball Coach Larry McGillicuddy has pulled off a minor miracle for Golden Knights fans. His first recruiting class turned out to be the very best in the nation, with 5 freshman at 5 different positions that are talented enough to start for almost any other school in the nation. Fans are hoping this group could propel the Golden Nights into a basketball powerhouse. Here are the Central Florida fab Five...

Now it's training camp time. In case anyone isn't familiar with the training system:

You have 30 points to distribute among the following:

JPS/FTS/SHT:

PSD/BLK:
PRD/STL:
STA/PFS/QKN/STR/JMP:

Make sure you don't go too low on the academics. We don't want anyone suspended.

That's a lot of perimeter defense training for a post player that doesn't have very good potential in PRD and is already maxed in STL.

A player you can create plays for the scorers, but can also step back and hit the three in a zone. That combined with his defense makes for a great point guard in my eyes.

Freshman were a little nervous at the start, with turnovers on the first two possessions. Then Vincent Bright nailed a trey on the 3rd possession and there was no looking back.

I agree, this is awesome. :) Nice to see I've had a couple double-double games so far, both good for 20+ points. I'm also pleased to see that I've had steals in all but one game to this point, most of them multi-steal games. The blocked shots are a nice added touch. :)

You do seem a little foul prone tho . . .

Yeah I was during my playing days in elementary school and middle school, too.

Was a top-notch defender though. One of my coaches even called me Dr. D (Dr. Defense). Usually played either point guard or center. Yeah go figure, the two opposite extremes. ;) But I was always stripping the ball away from people.

1) We retained our #1 ranking.
2) Provost picked a bad time for a rare turnover.

We got off to another slow start and were down 55-50 with 11:20 left. Then we went on another 9-0 run and never looked back. Quincy Puentes is turning into a really strong backup and will be very helpful to us down the stretch.

Tulsa at Central Florida

What's with the slow starts? For the 3rd straight game, we trail at the half, this time a 27-22 deficit. The big difference was our ability to get to the free throw line. Despite only shooting 63%, we got to the line 33 times compared to 16 for Tulsa (who shot even worse).

We actually led at the half, although only by 1 point. The 2nd half was all ours, thanks once again to our ability to get to the free throw line. Danny Wilson had a terrific game with 16 pts. and 15 boards.

I think this is the first game where a Fab Fiver was not the leading scorer. Otherwise, a pretty easy victory. Bright has been on a shooting slump through the last 4 games.

Are the results so far better than you were expecting? About the same?

If you are keeping these guys in school for all four years then this should be pretty exciting. You should be getting better recruits coming in than what you started with and these guys should continue to mature. If the rest of the NCAA is thinking about beating Central Florida they had better do it this season.

larrymcg421

They're playing a little bit better than expected, but remember this is against a mostly weak schedule. Next season I plan to schedule some really tough Out of Conference Games.

And I do plan to keep them in all four years. Rob Nielsen and Justin Provost tried to declare at the beginning of this season but I smited them.

Turnovers were the deciding factor in this one. Tulane played us pretty tough most of the way but their 23 turnovers, compared to our 13, finally did them in.

Round 1

Central Florida vs. McNeese State

As expected, we had little difficulty in dispatching 16th seeded McNeese State in the 1st Round. Our big men were the stars of this game. Wilson had 18 pts and 8 boards, while Moungey had 17 pts. and 5 steals. The one troubling part is that McNeese State shot 52.4% from the field and got to the line more often than we did. We won't beat tougher teams with those kinds of numbers.

Round 2

Georgetown vs. Central Florida

We actually had a better performance than in Round 1. This is one of our most complete victories yet. We shot 47%, held Georgetown to 35%, beat them on the boards 40-38 and in steals 7-1. Provost was the star of this game with 15 points, 7 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 0 turnovers, and 3-3 from 3pt range. Excellent! Now we move on to the Sweet 16, for (I believe) the first time in Central Florida history.

Round 3: The Sweet 16

Miami vs. Central Florida

Another dominating performance moves us to the Elite 8! This time, we just completely outmuscled our opponents, with a 55-26 edge in rebounds. The stats were pretty even other than that, so it was a huge factor in our victory. Peterson and Puentes combined for 20 boards off the bench. They're both seniors, so we'll definitely be missing their presence next season.

That's a pretty ugly way to end the season. We got dominated in every aspect of the game except ball handling, but that doesn't much matter when you get your asses kicked 42-18 on the boards. They made 10 more free throws, show 16% better from the field, and we missed all 12 of our three point attempts (including an 0-5 performance from Bright).

What's in store for next season? I have to say, I am a little worried. While the fab 5 will improve next year, we also lose C/F David Peterson and SF Quincy Puentes, both valuable players off the bench this season. We also lose PG Iago Guerrero, meaning we will be without our top three backups next season. I strongly recommend everyone train conditioning as much as possible.

*Howard was one of two cinderella stories this year. They were a #13 seed that knocked off #4 Indiana, #5 Virginia, #8 Arizona, and #3 Cincinnati to make the Final 4.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee was the other cinderella story. While they did not make the final four, they deserve credit for the competition they had to face. They were a #10 seed that knocked off #7 UCLA, #2 Wyoming, and #3 Alabama before falling to #1 Connecticut by 2 points in OT.
