What does the FOF path button say? A glance at that string should indicate what's illegal about it.
FWIW I used this on Win7 64-bit at home just fine.

FOF EXE Path and then long bar next to it is blank.
That means it could not find the path to the FOF exe from the registry. Are you using the latest UtilitySuite? That was a fix I did a while ago to have it find this on the 64-bit systems. Otherwise you can just click the button and browse to your FOF directory.

I downloaded the UtilitySuite via the Reference thread, but I'm not sure if that's the right one or not.
When I click the button, I get the Unhandled Exception error I posted above.

Honestly, I'm not sure. My motivation level is pretty low, and I have to see what's going on with the 6.3 update.

To add a bit, part of what I mean by the latter is if the binary file formats have changed at all, it will take some work to figure out what has changed.

I don't get the impression that's the case. The locations have, though, and I suspect some things in the registry. None of my leagues are showing up in DBupdater/Extender to be loaded.

Jim said he took stuff out of the registry. That may include the path to the exe, which is what I was using.

Is it possible to manually add the needed information to the registery?
gstelmack
12-29-2009, 07:08 PM
Sure. The following key needs to exist:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Solecismic Software\\Front Office Football 2007
Under there should be a value "Full Path". That should contain the path to the exe, not including the exe name (that path to the FOF install directory).

Yes, correct. This is the fix for ResourcePatcher which is only looking for the exe. The others need updates to the applications themselves.

FWIW, you MIGHT get away with using that trick for ResourcePatcher, then changing it to where your saved games are (the parent directory that contains the leagues, universe, etc) folders for the other utilities. I haven't installed the patch yet, so I can't vouch for it. There are some data files stuffed into the main exe folder that you may need to copy over to that saved folder for it to work: cities.fdt, citydata.fdt, injuries.fdt, nicks.fdt, cnames.dll, city.txt.

That's the whole point and why the UtilitySuite doesn't work with 6.3. You need to CREATE that key, then add the value for "Full Path" to it.

One other question, Greg. To get correct cities in the db, do I need to have the batch file put the proper files in the /program files/ location or the new one?

In the universe directory that is under what your registry key points to.

I just want to make sure I am following this right. If the path to the NEW version is added to the registery, then the utility suite will work?

The path needs to be to where the new exe is for ResourcePatcher to work, and to where the universe/leagues folders are for all the others to work.

I used ResourcePatcher successfully yesterday in 6.3 using the regedit to Program Files. Changed it this morning to the location in Application data, and DBupdating WOOF in 6.3 right now. It's not done yet (end of season), but everything looks correct.

Yup! Both workarounds work. Awesome!
I assume I'll need to copy the fdt and dll files every time, however... would placing a direct link to those files in the app data folder work? Or is that strictly a job for a batch file?

Those files are only updated when FOF is. Once copied, you only need to copy them again if the game is patched.

I'm running XP. If someone has the time and patience, could they give me a basic, step-by-step instruction on what I need to do in the registry to get the dbupdater to work with 6.3??
I know just enough about regedit to mess up my computer big-time so I'm a little paranoid here.
Greg - if you're planning on doing a 6.3 patch for the U.S. in the near future I might just wait....

For XP...
Start-->Run-->regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->SOFTWARE-->Solecismic Software-->Front Office Football 2007
ONce you're there...
Edit--->New-->String Value
Name the new string value to "Full Path" (no quotes)
Double click on Full Path and in the "Value data" box, enter the path where FOF is now located, down to the \Front Office Football 2007
That's it.

Ben,
Thanks for the quick response. One question where you mention entering the new path, are you talking about where the new FOF07 folders (Import, export, etc) were set up under my Application Data directory? Also, I already have a string value under FOF07 called "Full Path"....should I create a second one called Full Path or simply edit the existing string?

I've got 1&1 and they will not allow the remote connection functionality of the mysql db's.

Those are already set up under my "Software" key so I'm assuming I'm all set there.

Dola,
For some reason my FOF Folder in the registry is labeled Front Office Football 2004. I assume it goes back to my original installs of FOF04 and FOF07.
If I change the name in the registry to Front Office Football 2007 (Which is the correct path) and try to open DBUpdater, I get a Microsoft error report that closes DBUpdater.
I've also tried leaving the Front Office Football 2004 key alone, creating a new key called Front Office Football 2007 with the "Full Path" pointing to Application Data....blah, blah, blah and still get the same Microsoft error when I try to open DBUpdater.
If I leave the key labeled as Front Office Football 2004 and simply change the "Full Path" so that it's pointing to Application Data...blah, blah, blah...I can open DBUpdater but the drop down list is still completely blank.
So I'm at a loss here...

I don't use DB Updater, but this worked for Ben, who does, so I can only assume it should work for you as well. So, basically, point the Full Path key to your parent directory (c:\users\%profile name%\AppData\Roaming\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007).
Again, as Ben replied to this post that it worked for him, I'd say it should work for you.

It's all there if you read the last few posts, but I believe Ben's latest instructions were about fixing Resource patcher. If you want to fix the other apps in gestelmack's, you then need to change the same registry key you created and copy a few files.
Again, just read the thread above, it's all there.

Well, I've created a new registry key = Front Office Football 2007 (Since my existing one in the registry says Front Office Football 2004).
Created the "Full Path" key.
Put in the path for the "Full Path" key (Application Data...blah, blah, blah).
Copied over the city files and other files Greg said needed to be moved.
Copied over the FOF.exe file.
Try to open dbupdater and get a Microsoft error telling me the application needs to close.

The Microsoft error has a bunch of different codes, but the one that I assume is most telling is: "P9:system.io.filenotfoundexception".
Path that I added is as follows: "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Solecismic Software"
Copied directly from the "Properties" tab of the new FOF07 folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007
You are missing the Front Office Football 2007 part. And that folder is where your universe and league folders should be, and that folder is where all those other files should be copied to.

ResourcePatcher needs that key set to the FOF install directory under Program Files because it's looking for the executable. You need to set it there, run Resource Patcher, then set it back for the data apps.

Yeah...I know it *should* work but it still isn't.
I'm not getting any software errors, dbUpdater is simply not displaying the games that are visible in the game.
Is there a debugger I can run and post the results of?
gstelmack
01-05-2010, 07:58 AM
No, there isn't. Mostly you need to double-check everything and make sure you have the registry key named right, it has the right path in it, and that path has all the correct files in it.

Good catch. I thought regedit was displaying those since it's a string, but checking mine it doesn't. Get rid of the quotes.

I did the regedit and created the key HOWEVER I aimed it originally at the OLD location for things. DBUPDATER of course 'worked'...
upon further review I deleted said key in regedit and remade a key pointed to the right place, /appdata...
now however DBUpdater will not even open at all...
upon executing it, it immediately says, "DBUpdater has stopped working."
thoughts, other than Im an idiot?
gstelmack
01-07-2010, 04:47 PM
What is the exact exception? That will say if it is the key pointing to the wrong place (wherever the key points, the universe and leagues folders should be there), and you may not have copied the extra files mentioned earlier.
Flasch186
01-07-2010, 09:40 PM
Perfect greg, copying those extra files did it.
I missed that comment.
question:
as we go forward and the game doesnt update those 'extra' files where we copied them too, will we need to update/copy those to the new place at any critical points in the season to be sure DBUpdater is looking at the latest info? Like if a team moves etc?
gstelmack
01-08-2010, 06:39 AM
The ones you move are never modified by the game, they are the starting/default files, or contain unchanged data like hometown names, injury names, etc. Data that changes (like editing a city name or team nickname) is done in the universe folder, so already there. Moving a team is just updating data inside the saved game itself and so is unaffected.
So you only need to copy them again if Jim releases an update that modifies them.

I just updated to FOF 6.3, using win 7 x64.
I used regedit to add the string FULL PATH with the new path directing to Progame files (x86) (the path that win 7 installed FOF)
I tried to use resource patcher 1.9.6.0, I see the new path in the patcher window but when I clicked on the patch button, an error message popped out:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Access to the path: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007\FrFoot2007.bak' is denied.
When I clicked the Continue button, the message turns to "backing up FOF" but it just stalled. Can anyone help?

seems like I found a solution to my own problem (as listed in my previous entry), if you happen to have a win 7 x64 machine, added the required registry, saw the new path in the patcher window but unable to patch the exe file, the problem may be your SECURITY settings.
Open up windows explorer, browse to program files (x86)\solecismic software, then right click it, go to properties, go to security, go to advanced, find your user name and see if it has "full control". If not edit it so it has full control. Apply the settings and run patcher again, now it should be able to patch the file. I should have thought of this before, this security thing is really bothering me.
gstelmack
01-21-2010, 08:27 AM
Or if you don't want to change the security settings and open up the security hole that FOF 6.3 is helping to fix, just "Run as Administrator" ResourcePatcher. Then it can write to that folder when patching the exe.

maybe it's my win7-64 bit, can't seem to use extractor to extract draftee rosters, when I click on the button "extract" it freezes (no response, can't move window) whereas in the past I see the player names flashing across the screen. However I can use analyzer to see past draftee files.
Do you think you could take a look? Thanks.

Just FYI, but its possible to save a registry entry out into a .reg file. Then, if someone else downloaded that, double-clicking on that .reg file would just add the exported info into their registry.
I'd do it, but I keep FOF in a non-standard directory path. So, everyone who downloaded my reg file would have to still edit the entry. But, if someone who has FOF 2k7 in the standard install location were to do this, it would make for an easier download and fix for others.
Just thought I'd mention it.

Then I'm not sure. There's not enough info up there for me to figure out WHICH file it's trying to open. If you ever get an opportunity to post a call stack (some crashes like that do generate them), that would help, otherwise I'm at a loss for helping troubleshoot. The only hint you've got right now is it is looking for something and can't find it, and that means one of the game data files for DBUpdater.

Both Andy and I have tested and are having the same issues.
We played with various registry keys and we're both having the same error. One clue might be that it only seems to be breaking when we have the key set correctly.
If we use any other directory dbUpdater loads up, it just doesn't find a league.
How can I get you more info?

When I had the key set to: C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\Application Data\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007
DBUpdater would not load (gave the FileNotFoundException error).
When I had the key set to: "C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\Application Data\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007" (note the quotes)
DBUpdater would load file, but no leagues were found.
Seems to be a small issue somewhere...

I realize we're probably way past the point where anything is going to be edited, but I found this:
9106 23952 27 Millan Paul 1 75 211 0 0 0 2006 10 26 5 5 13 2745 27 2028
That's part of a line taken straight from Player Historical.csv. The problem? He's a Jr. I'm guessing Jr isn't stored in the last name field but is actually somewhere else.
edit: and as I suspected, if you change his name to say, PJ, he shows up as "PJ Millan Jr." on the player page.

Likely so.
Another strange thing I just noticed is that two players (one of them Millan the Elder) have 1000+ values in the PoG field. This just happened this year. The other guy doesn't have a kid - at least not yet (though he does have a duplicate name). Also there are a couple dozen guys with '1000' for number of rings.

There is a registry hack that gets over most stuff, and some files to copy over to the new save file location in 6.3 that lets DBUpdater run. All of that info is in here.

For XP...
Start-->Run-->regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->SOFTWARE-->Solecismic Software-->Front Office Football 2007
ONce you're there...
Edit--->New-->String Value
Name the new string value to "Full Path" (no quotes)
Double click on Full Path and in the "Value data" box, enter the path where FOF is now located, down to the \Front Office Football 2007
That's it.
and I am getting an "Unhandled exception has occured in your application.

Here's a curious issue: In two MP leagues I'm in (vNFL House and AUFL) we've had teams move. If I run dbUpdater on either of these leagues, the teams retain their old city connection in the database. (It can't be the city files, it seems, because the team names do change to the correct league values, just the city names are still the old ones.) If the commish in AUFL runs the update, he gets the same thing. However, if the commish in vNFL House runs the update, the city values change.
I can't for the life of me figure out why it works for the one and not for the rest of us. Any ideas?

I don't know what the huge majority of that stuff means, but when I see two places where it says "Connection unexpectedly terminated," it makes me wonder if the database connection was unexpectedly terminated. ;) Maybe you just lost your connection to the interwebs temporarily in the middle of updating?

Yes, I tried re-running it and it just updated like it was a 'midweek' update.
Just simmed the Conference Round and here is an example of what is being pulled up from week 16.

I really wish that some of the newer info in dbupdater would have been added to interrogator as well. That, or that dbupdater had an option to dump to csv rather than a db (as I cannot figure out if or how I can connect it to our mysql server). *sigh*

Ok, I just moved to Windows 7 and I did all the regedits but still can't get dbupdater to recognize my saved game files. Here is a few screen shots:
1) This is my Regedit
http://www.cyberfootballleague.com/pic1.png
2) This is the files that are in my App Data folder:
http://www.cyberfootballleague.com/pic2.png
As you can tell I just copied all the files from my program files folder to the app data folder. I tried with just the selected files from an earlier post and that didn't work either.
Any thoughts?

I think the data's there, you just have to do the math. The cap, cap loss for each team, and each player's salary and bonus for each year is in the db.

Speaking of dbupdater...
What are people using for web-hosting that allows remote connections to their web-site databases?
I've got 1&1 and they will not allow the remote connection functionality of the mysql db's.
Does anyone happen to have an answer to this? I've got 1&1 as well and it's annoying that they don't allow it. I've tried a few free hosts out there just to have the MySQL DB and of course those don't allow it either.

If enough guys are interested I'd be willing to set up a server just for FOF leagues. I'd give everyone access via FTP and phpMyAdmin, and open the external MySQL ports. I'd have to charge enough to cover the server (depending on how many leagues take me up on it) but you're all paying for hosting already anyway. Thoughts? PM me -
I am using ixwebhosting. But they really don't like how many resources the conscriptor uses.

Okay guys, need some help.
I'm on Win7 and can't get extender to find my league files.
I have the : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007\Full Path -> direct correctly.
But that isnt the key that extender works on.
So i created: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007\ Full Path
If the Full Path key derects to any existing directory Extender crashes right on startup.
What am i doing wrong?
Can't i just create the directory where Extender is looking for?
Thank you!

Okay, so I am trying to load all of our 2k7 seasons into our database so we can have the historical data. Currently, we are in 2024 - I loaded our current file, then the EOS 2023 file. Then I loaded a couple random previous seasons, and decided that I wanted to clean up the data and just start fresh (I wasn't sure if loading out of order was the best way to do it)
Our first 2k7 season was 2011, but the earliest file I have is 2013, so I started with loading that. I emptied all the tables and now I get this error:

This depends on exactly how / what you want to do.
First off, since the 6.3 data file change in FOF, the UtilitySuite requires some hacking to get it to run. There are details earlier in this thread to fool it into thinking FOF is installed over in the AppData area. However, this will not be necessary within the next few days, I hope to push out a release that correctly supports the new FOF folder structure soon.
Second, what to run depends on what you want. DBUpdater is set up to create and maintain a MySQL database with a large amount of game data. Interrogator dumps similar data to CSV. And Extractor grabs a roster dump of player cards, either for all active players, or scouts, or staff, or most often the draft class (which can then be read by DraftAnalyzer to fool around with combine numbers). Extractor writes to Documents\StelmackSoft\UtilitySuite, while many other tools ask where to put the file and what to call it.
Great to have you back Greg!

Now uses .NET 3.5 for possible future use.
Now built as x86 apps to maybe fix the Maddenator issue (which I'm not set up to test at the moment...).
The UtilitySuite now knows about the 6.3+ folder structure and will look for universe and league folders over in the AppData area.
Fixed how files were open for reading so Standard Users could read the data files that are still in Program Files.
Draft Analyzer now has context menu entries for up/down (already supported keystrokes).
Draft Analyzer now has an Edit menu item to seed the draft order from the current sort order. So set up your weights, sort by combine or rating or whatever, then use this menu item to update the current draft order for the players in the list.
Draft Analyzer now has a File menu item to export the top 100 players by draft order to a CSV for Conscriptor to import. With the new export for Conscriptor feature, I'll be happy to take any and all feedback on improving the draft order editing features in Draft Analyzer.

There were reports of issues with 64-bit Win7/Vista systems, and my theory is that the "Any CPU" configs were running as 64-bit and failing to load the 32-bit supporting DLLs needed by Maddenator. Rebuilding as x86 32-bit apps would fix that if it's the issue. But I no longer have Madden installed to test this out.
I don't have a 64-bit system to test or I would happily test it.

I have Madden 08 for the PC, I just haven't tried installing it since I went to Win7 64-bit, and I don't have a league set up on it. Now that I'm back in WOOF, I might play around with it, but first I have to install a new faucet in the bathroom (and finally finish that remodel!), install a nice shiny new Delta Touch20 faucet in the kitchen for my wife, finish rearranging all the computer stuff in the newly-remodeled den (I have to post some pictures of that, finally turned the den from a converted dining room into a real computer room with custom-built desktop running around the whole thing), and then finally build my first flight sim control panel as my first foray into some hardware work.
Then I'll get time to set up Madden with some league files and test Maddenator again so I can take some screenshots for WOOF.

I ran Maddenator against an fofroster set and it seemed to work fine. When I ran Madden 08 (on Win7, 64-bit) some teams looked right and others looked unchanged.
I had saved a default Madden '08 roster file and then over-wrote it with Maddenator...I seem to remember this being an issue in the past...so it may actually be working right and I need to tweak something.

Yes, yes.
FWIW, when I ran the Maddenator, it worked like a champ in Madden '08 EXCEPT against two teams which did not get updated rosters. Those two teams happen to be the same team ID of the two FOF MP teams I own...not sure if that is coincidental or not.

Maddenator scans for city names and nicknames. Whenever this happens it's because the FOF name does not match the Madden name. For example, I had to change WOOF's "Lappland Fightin' Reindeer" to get rid of the apostrophe because Madden didn't like the apostrophes. It's been a while since I ran it, but it should spit out a log file in the Documents/StelmackSoft/UtilitySuite folder with info that can help you debug it.

Awesome! I forgot about the log file. That explained everything. So...
Maddenator works in Win7, 64-bit just fine now!
FWIW -- If you find differences in the log file, either change the City and Nick files (global) to reflect what Madden is expecting OR change the FOFRoster.csv (per instance) to reflect what Madden is expecting.

With 1.9.7 I removed the need for all the hacks that went on to get the suite to work. It uses the registry key to find the executables and the static data files, and grabs your app data path and looks in solecismic software\front office football 2007 for the leagues and universe directories. At some point I need to add some sort of debug output so it will show you the paths it is looking in.
This scheme is working fine for me on Win7 64-bit. If you are having issues, one thing to try is create a file called FOFPath.txt in your documents\stelmacksoft\utilitysuite folder (where the output from the suite goes) and put two lines in there. The first line is the path to your FOF installation in program files, and the second line is the path to your app data files. I left that hack in from the original 64-bit issues before they got solved because it seemed like a nice safety net. See if that works.

1.9.4 had a schema update to add some Drive data. Sounds like you may have had some bit of that already in there (surprised you didn't update sooner). In particular it thinks you already have one column in fof_mappings. If you are comfortable with databases you can double-check the schema vs the SQL files that are installed with the UtilitySuite and make sure they match, then force the schema version to 4 in the fof_gameinfo table to prevent it from trying to alter the schema again. See V4Schema.sql for the changes made from version 3, the one you have, and check against your current tables.

It was shear laziness on my part. I knew I'd be broaching the subject of raising the injury setting in the league so I wanted to do some basic testing. I haven't played single player in years and was too lazy to set up a SP league (I've never been an FOF player that has multiple "testing" leagues).
I ran through one regular season on a new setting and then never bothered to do anything else with it.

That's been a browser issue in the past. That tool uses .NET's web installer bits so that the utility auto-updates itself. But if your browser doesn't understand that format, you get XML.

Is that to run, or to fix the FOF Directory display? It's using the same reader code as everything else, but I haven't fixed the display. Frankly I need to add a Data Directory label to it, then both labels to all the other tools that read the data to help debug these issues.

Until the column "AI" Character is all clear, but from the column "AJ" to "BM"I see numbers that I don't know what they mean.
Where I can see what these numbers mean ?
Thanks !
Best regards

Those are the bar ratings. If it's a draft class, they are the min/max values for the blue or orange bars you see for each player. For other players, they are the cur/fut values. Note that for a QB the first number is formations.
The bars are in order the same they are in FOF. I don't have a list for each position.

Hi Greg !
Thanks for the details.
Yes...the Excel file is of the 2011 Draft Class.
So, if I understand correctly the values are in sequence as in FOF ? ( for example..QB...first value is Screen Passes...the last is kick holding ).
If Yes, then great....I can make a list for all the posistions.
Thanks !

Correct.

one small item of note is that the first column in the rating for the QB's is the number of formations they know, then screen passes is the 2nd & 3rd

What speifically? Have you clicked on the guys in Draft Analyzer to fill in the lower boxes? Not sure what you are interested in from Excel that is not in Analyzer that is important to drafting.

I have an FOFRoster.csv file open right now from a draft class. I don't see anything in it that isn't in Analyzer except maybe hometown and agent. (Those may be, too, but I ignore them completely when drafting, so I wouldn't know if they're there or not.)

Sorry ! Now I got it !!
Is there a kind of "help"file to understand what mean all the values ?
I mean,"Bars","Combine","Rate", the "Att" on the player info. screen...and the numbers between parenthesis on the position specific bars ?
What mean the Blue bar and the white one ?
Are they related on the Scout ability or they are the true player value ?
Look at LDT Juan Roberson, on my file, why he has a "Rat" of 115.30 for LDT and -422.70 for RDT or NT ? Same with the "Size".
What that mean ? Why ?
SORRY for so many question ! But I am very interested in this game and Utility !!
Thanks !

Most of your questions will make more sense when you look at the "Edit Weights" screen (see the menu). You have complete control over how you want to view those various numbers. So, for each position, you can determine how valuable that position is to use, how important each combine is, and how important each "bar" is. There are also global settings for how important height is (too tall / too short for position), weight (over/under weight) is, attributes/bars, combines, conflicts/affinities, and red flags. All of thse combine to produce the numbers you mention.
"Bars" uses the position-specific bar weights and the bar values that came from the CSV to generate a 0-100 overall rating analagous to the cur/fut that FOF gives, but customized to which bars you think are important.
"Combine" uses the combine numbers (specifically standard deviations from average) and weights you entered to give a single combine rating for the player. Note that most advanced drafters use this as the single most important factor for drafting a player. See other threads for that info.
"Rate" uses the Bars, Combine, position weighting, and other factors you gave weights to to come up with an overall rating for the player.
Blue / orange bars should match what FOF shows you when you open a draftee's player report window. The little white bar gives a VERY rough estimate of the predicted value of that bar based on the associated combine number. Again, see the various combine threads here for more details. This is related to the values in parenthesis next to the names of the bars, those show which combine(s) have been shown to contribute to those bars, and in what amount (for example, some combines influence multiple bars, with different associated weights, so those weights show there). The white bar just give you some idea if that attribute should be high or low based on the associated combine(s), don't try to use it to predict the actual number. Mostly it will help train you as to which combines influence which bars, and therefore which combines should be important to you.
For LDT Juan Roberson, sounds like he is light for a DT, so he just barely fits the weight range for an LDT, but is considered "too light" by FOF to play RDT or NT and thus gets a big penalty for "size" for those positions. Mostly this helps you determine how well a guy would position-switch to one of those other positions. That "Rat" is also influenced by which bars are important to the position. So, if you like your SLBs to be run-stoppers and your WLBs to pass-rushers, and the draft class has an "SLB" that has much better pass-rush combines than run-stopping combines, his "WLB" rating will be higher, and he'll show as "SLB WLB" in the main list screen to show that he might work better for you as the WLB.
"Att" in that section is basically the same as "Bars" in the main list, and frankly I ought to rename those to be the same. It's in the player info section so you can see the "Bars" for each of those possible positions in the group for the player and how he fares, so in the above example you'd see a higher "Att" for WLB than SLB.
"Size" shows the penalty for being under/oversized based on your weights.
The key to the whole thing is to set up your weights for the way you want to draft and the types of players you are looking for in your scheme. Because each GM runs a different scheme and thus places different importances on different bars and combines, there is no single "best" set of weights to use for Analyzer. I did post a set of weights that I used at one point in this thread for a starting point, but you really want to go through them on your own, play with them, and see how it affects the rankings of the draftees.

I tried the following:
1. In C:\Users\schnedar\Documents\StelmackSoft\UtilitySuite I created a file called FOFPath.txt
2. In that file, I have two lines:
C:\Games\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007
C:\Users\schnedar\AppData\Roaming\Solecismic Software\Front Office Football 2007
3. The first line is the game installation. The second line is the app data location.
4. When I run dbupdater, I still do not receive any league listing in the League field.
NOTE: I am using Vista.
Any suggestions? Much thanks in advance.

Greg...last question...
On the Edit Combine Weights window....the "All Positions" values...I presume that there I can set the % of what I think is important for the players I intend to draft, right ?
Then...the total of all the values should be 100 ?
Or it make sense to have the total of all these values exceeding 100 ?
For example...70 Attribute, 70 Combine, 30 height, 30 weight , and so on...
Thanks !

You can set those values to whatever you want. The absolute is not important, it's how they relate to each other. So if you set Attribute to "70", your guys' bars/attributes end up on a 0-70 scale. Most of the others are similar with a direct correlation, so a "30" on weight means -30 for guys that are severely over/under weight (and always -500 for guys too heavy/light to play the position). Combines are trickier, because there is no max on them. Real outliers can end up with a final combine number much higher than what you specify in the weight portion. It works out I think that guys that are 1 standard deviation above average in each combine will get that value, but much higher deviations can push them way up.
So experiment with the numbers until you get results you are happy with.

If the suggestions listed over the last couple of pages don't help, I'm at a loss. I develop on Win7/64 and don't need any tricks: no playing with registry, no FOFPath.txt, no need to copy extra files.
When I get a chance I want to put something in that shows what paths it is using, but not sure when I'll get a chance.

First draft using the new analyzer (and conscriptor). I like the fact that you can import your draft order directly into conscriptor (at least the first 100). However, my queue is now emptying very fast but I can still only get my top 100 (many of whom have already been drafted). It would be great to be able to either import 250 players (or be able to re-import later in the draft, but not include all the players off the board in the 100 players output).

I need to make that configurable. I tested with 300 at one point and that takes a bit to import.
But you can re-import the top 100 minus draftees. Just check the "Sort Draftees to Bottom" option in one of the menus. When you mark guys drafted, this will sort them to the bottom of the sort order no matter what it is, so they won't go up to Conscriptor.

Tried this and it didn't work (all the selected players are at the bottom but they still show up in the CSV).
I found the fix though, you have to select {use current sort order as draft order} right before you export (even if the sort order is already correct).

a. Conscriptor supports interviews, so you may want to conduct interviews first<O:p</O:p
2. Open up a player card from the amateur draft list and move to one side of the screen.<O:p</O:p
3. Run Stelmack’s Utility “Extractor” and put the small window to the other side of the screen (not on top of the open window)<O:p</O:p
4. Ensure the “FA” button is unchecked and run extractor, this will generate a FOFRoster.csv file for use with the Draft Analyzer. <O:p</O:p
a. You will find the file in this default directory--> “C:\Users\(accountname)<ACCOUNTNAME>\Documents\StelmackSoft\UtilitySuite”<O:p</O:p
5. Open Stelmack’s “Draft Analyzer” and “Load Extractor Output”<O:p</O:p
a. Optimize the Analyzer for editing the weights associated with the draftees to suit your preferences. Go to “Edit”-->“Edit Weights” to do this. Make sure you save your edits for future use!<O:p</O:p
6. After you have your order set the way you like it, click on “Edit"-->”Use Current Sort as Draft Order”<O:p</O:p
7. Now prepare the new list for importing. Click on “File"-->”Export Draft Order (Conscriptor)”<O:p</O:p
a. This will create your “DraftOrder.csv” file<O:p</O:p
8. Open up J. David Baker’s Conscriptor and log in.<O:p</O:p
9. From the horizontal tab menu, select “Import Priority List”<O:p</O:p
a. Select the “DraftOrder.csv” file that you just created. The default location will be here-->“C:\Users\(accountname)<ACCOUNTNAME>\Documents\StelmackSoft\UtilitySuite” (The same as where the “FOFRoster.csv” file is located.)<O:p</O:p
10. Make minor modifications as the draft unfolds with Conscriptor or repeat process.<O:p</O:p

Look over on the right. There is a checkbox for "Process from Season", and a textbox below. By default the box is checked and the textbox has the current season. Uncheck the box to get everything (and go take a nap for a mature league), or set the season to an appropriate point.

Not quite. That one is useful for transferring players marked as drafted between instances of Analyzer. In the good ol' days, with live drafts in my office league, I could send that file out as the AI made picks. Nowadays with online draft utilities, it is mostly useful for running Analyzer on multiple machines and keeping them up to date.
You want the latest version of Draft Analyzer, and use "Export Draft Order (Conscriptor)". If you don't have the latest version, that option won't exist for you.
And what this does is take the 100 players using the "Draft Order" column (far right) and export them to that CSV, which you then import using the latest version of Conscriptor. There are many tools in Analyzer for manipulating the Draft Order column.

I formatted my laptop, re-installed the Utility suite and FOF. since this point, I couldn't get the Utility suite to register any of my saved game files. Not a huge deal as I'm able to utilize on my desktop.

I'm running Vista 64bit. Again, not a huge deal as I can utilize my desktop for anything which requires the Utility suite to parse game data

Feature request for Analyzer: a way to more accurately weight no-combine players against the rest of the class. I'm thinking...
1. Remove the weights on the apparent 0*40yarddash type calculations for the combines you can't see, and only use the ones you can see. (Note that some players at the same positions will have position drills, while others won't.) In other words, if I have it weighted for WR...
5--sol
9--40
8--bench
8--agl
2--brj
4--posdrl
That's a total of 36. Assume you can only see sol and posdrl for the no-combine WR. 9 "ratings points" are used by me there, so multiply just those two combines by 4 to get the combine score (20 sol, 16 posdrl). And then...
2. Give the user another pair of bar vs. combine boxes for no-combine players. I'd want to weight bars much higher than combines for no-combine guys.

When I try to run extractor (latest version) it won't begin to process the open player card, and then freezes - any suggestions?

Do I just delete record 24983 and re-run the DBU?

Probably, although I'd be a bit worried about the state of data / database that it thinks it needs to add that player as a new one and not just update him. You didn't have to redo a stage or something did you?
Also you may need to remove more than him, I wouldn't be surprised to see a slew of errors depending on what went wrong (like all rookies or something).
No, I didn't redo anything.
Any other ideas on what to do then?

If it's going to re-add him, you should be able to just delete him. It may only be the one record. If you get a cascade, though, something is really off between the database and the game data.
I deleted the record and it updated fine.
Greg, what do I need to delete to restore the playergamestats rows for one single week? I'm having this problem on my site where DBupdater probably couldn't complete all inserts for that week, which means several players are missing entries.

Do you have mysql query browser installed, 3ric? If so, you can just DELETE FROM fof_playergamestats where year=(select curyear from fof_gameinfo) and week=(select week-1 from fof_gameinfo)

Actually, come to think about it, you know enough php to do this. Even if you don't have MySQL Query Browser, you can just create a quick page that does that query and point it to your db on my server.
No, I have the query browser, and I thought of it myself. Thing is, it doesn't work, and I think it's because we're in week 11, and it's week 7 which is missing the data. Just deleting the week 7 playergamestats isn't enough.
OK, deleting playergamestats for week 7-11 seemed to do the trick, DBUpdater has been working at it for quite a while now.

1.9.9 (April 29, 2011): Download (http://www.gstelmack.com/UtilitySuite/FOF2k7UtilitySuite1.9.9.zip)
Draft Analyzer now remembers the order players were picked in when doing "Mark Drafted" if that info is available, and places it in the CSV if you export the data.
Draft Analyzer now lets you specify different Bars and Combines global weights for players that did not attend the combine. For these players, only Solecismic and, if available, Position Drill will be used to determine their combine score when combined with this new weight. The Bars weight works normally, you can just weight it differently for the no combine guys.
Extractor allows you to specify what file to write the data to if you don't like the default FOFRoster.csv setting.
DBUpdater now writes a new table named "fof_futuredrafts" with the same content as the "GameDrafts" table output by Interrogator. This tells you who owns future picks. Note that this does not contain an actual order, but rather it's a mapping of who owns each team's pick in the upcoming 3-4 seasons.
Extractor allows you to specify what file to write the data to if you don't like the default FOFRoster.csv setting.

i just reinstalled FOF a couple days ago, then installed your new magic-pack: can´t get the resource-patcher to work, crashes when i try to put in the FOFexe path (right when i click the button)
any ideas ? Am on Windows 7 64 bit
edit : when using the path checker, the column for the install stays empty and when i click it it crashes as well. The game works though and IS installed ...

to force a path. It can't find the FOF installation path for some reason.

Questions for the next version of DraftAnalyzer. I'm finally collecting some of the additional conventional wisdom and adding it in. For example:
http://www.gstelmack.com/DANew.png
Here you can see masked pairs linked on the right, and Punishing Hitter marked with a green background to show that it is a bar that is rarely if ever masked for that position.
I'm not sure where else to go from here, though. One option is to add some searches / sorts to bubble some of these key unmasked bars to the top. For example, "bring all TEs with a Big Play Receiving > 50 to the top", or "all QBs with Sense Rush > 50 to the top", or maybe instead I should just have a "sort by bar X" to cover all these cases which has been asked for quite some time (that's a bit of a nasty feature to get back in, but what the heck). Is there any other "conventional wisdom" that folks can think of a way to get in here? Does the presentation above look good for those features? Any other specific ideas or suggestions?

Or maybe I just needed to put my mind to it. Done for the next version.
Other suggestions remain welcome. I think we could do a lot with some the lessons learned out there, I'm really just not quite sure how to apply them within this tool.

1.9.10 (May 3, 2011): Download (http://www.gstelmack.com/UtilitySuite/FOF2k7UtilitySuite1.9.10.zip)
DraftAnalyzer now lets you show the individual calculated combine ratings that are summed to generate the global combine rating in addition to the raw scores and the standard deviations. This should help with tweaking weights, or with filtering out guys with low combine scores that don't matter much to you.
DraftAnalyzer now allows you to sort by any bar from the View menu.
DraftAnalyzer now connects "masked pairs" bars.
DraftAnalyzer now highlights bars that are believed to rarely be masked with a green background.
DraftAnalyzer now has buttons to reset all position weights (how impoitant each position is) to FOF defaults, or to all 1s.I don't promise I'm accurate on the masked pairs or rarely-masked bars, feel free to send me corrections.

anyone else have any issues with this utility not being able to identify the FOF install directory? This area is left blank and then when I click this block, the app crashes.
My gut feeling is that there is something wrong with my elicense. Have this issue on my laptop which I formatted and had to recently re-install. My desktop was fine. I just bought a new desktop and tried to unlicense the game on my old one and it errored out....error 31. I contacted support and was told that this is something on their end. I took the liberty to try and download the game and test my luck to try to validate with my same license. It worked! I downloaded the utility suite and click the install paths....the install path is blank again. I click it and it crashes.
will hopefully have this resolved with elicense and see if this helps anything
EDIT
forgot to add the FOFpath.txt fix and that seemed to work. we'll see what happens with the elicense issue in the next few days

I've been running an older version of the draft analyzer, it appears, downloaded the new version last night, nice job on all the improvements.
One question, what are the white lines I see? Some in the bars, some next to the bars, and some far from them they have to mean something.

They are a very, very, very, very, very, very, very rough approximation to where the bar MIGHT be based on combines. Don't look at the absolute placement, but focus on relative placement. It's a quick at-a-glance "hey, his bench press says he should have a high blocking strength, but the blocking strength bar is really low" kind of stuff, not "hey, his bench press says his blocking strength bar should be 85, but the bar is only at 82, woohoo creeping 3 points!" kind of stuff.

I just updated and installed these on a new computer (win 7).
Several of the windows in analyzer are just a bit too short and cut off part of the last button or input fields (cancel button on weights and defensive back leader birthday)
I am running 1920 x 1080 resolution. Any way to fix this?

The analyzer uses just the comb/bars ratios for players who have combine scores, and the other info height weight etc for non combine players?
I have been playing around with the DA alot lately on a past draft, I have several OL and DL guys showing up very high and changing bar weights does not seem to move them.
These players are not that good and have 400 or so org. draft order ratings.
Am I missing something in DA to help weed these guys out ?

You must have your font size cranked up. Either the desktop DPI setting, or the font size setting. I run the same res for development and Analyzer takes up maybe 3/4 of the screen.

I'll check the font size, but its not analyzer itself, its only the pop ups for editing chemistry dates and combine/bar weights.
