Looks like I have my guy to lead me away from 2-14 seasons!

dola
how's the HS football down there in Soperton GA boys?
All the first rounders that I have on my serious career's roster are pretty mediocre, actually.
I drafted a receiver named Lance Oksenberg in 1971, late second round, who has been a staple of my offense throughout his 12 year career.
Here are his career stats: In 170GS, he has 768 catches on 1261 targets for 10660 yards, 81 of those going for touchdowns. He has 21 career 100+ yard games, including 6 in 1975!

apparently I'm a braggy bitch this time around (and I love that I finally figured out the whole uploading player card thing). Figured Hopper needed a strong RB next to him so I traded up to 1 (2) from 1 (4). Cost me a 2nd in addition to my 1 (4) to do that, but I snagged Ian Higgins. 77/86 out of the draft!

Wow. Looks like your backfield is locked up for years. Keep us updated on your career.

CPU drafting isn't perfect though. Look what fell to me...

OTOH...one of my 2nd round picks just busted BADDDDD. he's now 3/16 after training camp.

FYI though...I'm up to 2012 and while Hopper is still developing (he's up in the 60's overall now)...it's looking like continued mediocrity. I'm hoping that Stan Sanders will solidify the O-Line and that will be the missing piece. My defense isn't great, but it's solidly average (and the front of it is very solid with Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans+Shantee Orr)

yeah. that worried me too a little. he did pass on the workouts though, so i'd guess that had some effect on his draft position. But yeah, he's been very impressive.

I'm still trying to get a handle on the confluence of the skill bars, the workout stats and my scout's interviewing. With sixty interviews I usually target only players with Underrated AND with ratings in the 6.5-8.5 range at positions of need for the first two rounds. Any thoughts on finding good value later in the draft would be greatly appreciated...even strategies that only work sometimes...

DT - I don't mind rare instances like the guy who fell to you... it happens albeit rarely... so, once in 5-10 years, nice.

I've just had the polar opposite - I drafted Norm Russell with 3.10, and he dropped from 25/64 to 25/57 in his inital training camp, but still looked OK.
Used as a back-up as a rookie, he progressed to 31/57, and did enough to be the planned starter next season. Post second camp, 30/52, but he still was the starter.
2 games into the season, ALL of his green has vanished, and he is just a 34/34 guy :(

I hope he was far and away the best guy. 8 formations with very low intelligence would scare me away.

The QB I took at 1(1) who turned into a 97/97 guy by year 4 only knew 7 formations and was, I think, average intelligence. There's no way I'd pass on someone like that simply because of "secondary" indicators.

There's no way I'd pass on someone like that simply because of "secondary" indicators.Did he run an effective offense? I consider formations by a QB more than a secondary indicator. If I ran a very basic run offense then it's probably fine. But any kind of sophisticated pass offense and this makes a difference.

We had a few examples of this in the GroupThink. I think it's very possible that all scouts rated him too low anyway, and not turning up to the workouts means that teams generally let him drop further as they don't want to take a risk. Do you remember anything about how his bars looked before he was drafted?

yeah. his blues were maxed up there by my scout

Possibly yours was the only scout who saw that then, maybe all the other scouts saw rubbish. How's he rated. (Not that that necessarily makes a difference)
