Sure, it's easy to go 17-2 when you don't play Grand Rapids!

Thats actually the way i use to handicap myself in FOF2k4. I'd never let myself have a top flight QB on my team. i'd always try to build amazing defenses and a strong running game. Then just have an average jorneyman QB and see if i could win.
And i did win the superbowl quite often as a matter of fact :)

But all those yards rushing allowed by the other team should have helped them win!

I know, everyone knows that the team that gives up the highest rushing avg dominates!

Yeah, with the right talent/gameplan it's definitely possible to dominate with relative scrubs. The ballad of Ronald McLemore (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showpost.php?p=1317674&postcount=13)

Unfortunately, we took some flukey loss in our first playoff game. :(
The duet was named to the 2nd team all pro... wtf do they have to do to make 1st team/win MVP???

I think you need a great QB to win in FOF. :) I started a new single player game today. I used an allocation draft and let my scout handle the complete draft. This was the QB the scout picked in the 12th round. And, those are his numbers from the first regular season game. QB rating of 7.1... HAHAHA He only got that because his completion percentage was 8.5% higher than 30%. (30% = 0 points in determining QB rating)
It does look like he has some potential. This should be a fun first season. So, yeah I think you need at least a good (maybe not great) QB to win in FOF. :D

You don't need a great QB to win, you need the right QB to win. If you have a good receiving FB and/or TE with a bunch of possession type receivers, then an accurate QB with good short passing rated in the 40's could be a stud. If you put a guy with a gun who throws great long passes but can't hit a short pass to save his life and is rated in the 60's he's liable to totally blow with the talent set around him. It's all about the matchups. Come up with a system you like and follow it rather than overspending on talent just for the sake of getting talent.

Vance got sacked seven times in the very first regular season game(a loss), so sometimes QBs can overcome inauspicious starts.

Ok, I think I've pushed this one to it's extreme. This was in a season where I was getting sick of my team and planned to switch teams, so I just skipped through FA, let the AI run the draft and just hit sim season.
Anyway, Carlton Lyons:

And the team:

lol, that's pretty sick. Looks like the common thread between your two QBs is "good" read defense and short passes, though McLemore was obviously a far superior player--he'd be 9th best current QB in WAFL.

You may not need one, but when you have one, it's pretty damn sweet. My 98/98 4th-year QB just lead me to a 16-0 regular season. I haven't had a chance to look at his final season stats, but I'm fairly certain he ended up with over 25 TDs and only 1 INT. He's making remarkably efficient receivers out of my 30s/40s current-rated receivers (and making me wish I hadn't broke the bank to resign Roy Williams (87/87), since I'm not sure how much I really need him at that salary now).
Tonight he goes for the perfect season and back-to-back FOF Bowl victories.
