View Full Version : 40 times
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there any way to access 40 times for non rookies? Also if there isnt, is positional experience diversity a sign of a speedy player. For example if a linebacker has safety positions on his experience chart does that mean he would be quicker than the average linebacker? Sorry if Im missing a completely obvious forty time list.

I think pass rush technique is the best indicator of a linebacker's speed. I think it does come into play with stuff like interception and fumble returns.
I guess you might be interested in other positions as well - basically it's the same as what you're looking for in rookies.
WR, TE = Big Play Receiving
RB, FB, QB = Breakaway Speed (only visible on the RB screen, but FBs and QBs have it as well).
O Line = presumably run block if you're actually interested in the speed of your linemen.
LB, D Line = Pass Rush Technique (maybe a bit of Man To Man as well, but I don't think so).
CB, S = Man To Man.

40-times are hidden for most players.
I think you shouldn't carry much weight on those for non-rookies anyway, for most positions a player's ratings tell you more about his ability to play than his 40 times. For rookies, 40 times can be used to determine whether players are better or worse than advertised by your scout (of course the reverse can be true too, a good 40 time doesn't always mean a player can play good football). In FOF2004 there were strong indications that a good 40 time (for a player's position group) would mean good overall ratings. It seems to be less clear-cut in FOF2007 and take more seasons to get a more accurate look on players (and as you noticed, by then the combine score is invisible for most players). Keep in mind that 40-times were/are usually only an indication for one skill for each position (scramble frequency for QBs, breakaway speed for RBs, big-play ability for WRs, pass rush technique for DL&LB, for other positions I'd need to check my research spreadsheet.)
Bottom line, 40 times aren't so interesting for veterans, yet for rookies, they can be a little bit more information about how good your player actually is.

Funny, I started typing before seeing your post, Narcizo. ;)
CB, S = Man To Man.I was under the impression that sometimes it's man to man, sometimes it seems to be zone defense for defensive backs. Players who are poor in one and potentially (very) good in the other tend to score well too. And those who can both tend to score even higher.

Obviously the Fastest Man contest shows a few every year.

I haven't studied it a great deal but the fastest man contest always seems to go with the M2M guys.

D'oh! La.
Take that back. I've just looked at one of my cornerbacks who's won the fastest man award twice and his zone is much better than his M2M. I stand corrected.
