From the 20 Questions thread, I decided to do a little quicksim to see if Read Defense for QBs ever goes down. I found out a few other little tidbits that mostly applies to SPers.

1. There is no option to allow your coaches/scouts send players to the Summer League. I quicksimmed and had the coaches/scouts do everything and not once did they send anyone to the Summer League.

2. If you skip all stages in the Hiring Coaches stage, you'll only hire a coach in the last stage...and probably won't get as good of one if you do it yourself (I believe it was this way in 2k4).

3. I think if your staff does all of your decisions for you, the staff isn't nearly as adept as the AI for other teams. They let Jay Cutler go to San Francisco in his 7th year (he was in his prime).

Jay Cutler retired after 16 seasons:

This is what I've done in Excel to track his progress:

INT is Intelligence, RD is Read Defense, and the percentages are the percentages of how often he is sacked or knocked down on a passing play.

From what I can tell, either it's his intelligence or the RB/FB/TE blitz pickup that affects the ability to pick up additional blitzers...or I need a larger data set. I can tell that Intelligence does not go up or down and I think that Read Defense does go down after time. FWIW in 2019, San Francisco started their first overall pick, Marshall Sampson the last four games because they wouldn't make the playoffs. They did the same in 2020 and Marshall Sampson became the full-time starter in 2021. I've attached the snapshots from both Marshall Sampson and Jay Cutler. Marshall Sampson's is from the end of the 2020 season (after the FO Bowl) and Jay Cutler's is from the beginning of the 2021 season (before Coach Hiring).

They had quite a bit of money tied up in those two, including over $32 million in bonus money for one year for two QBs.

Oh, on a final note it seems as if the Summer League isn't being used in the way that Jim wanted it to be used. To send the #1 overall pick to the Summer League makes me rethink any house rules against sending #1 picks to the Summer League.

Also, this took a lot longer than I thought it would take. I was going to take another Christian Rangel through the same process because he had opposite values (high Intelligence and a low green bar for Read Defense), but it just took too damn long to find out there are too many variables to do a proper test. I took out injuries, but depending on who you're playing and what their composition is, it's difficult to have constants in the equation. After a good hour and a half, I've literally determined nothing.

One note on your post. I quick simmed 5 years to have a little history in my dynasty league and the AI did send one guy from my team to summer camp. Don't know why they didn't in yours.
