View Full Version : Update on FOF207 performance on an Intel Mac running Parallels

I was able to successfuly use Parallels ONLY for about 16 seasons. This was tested under various versions of FOF2007, but as of the last patch, the game was still bugging out at around 16 seasons. This happened over three careers -- not a lot of instances, and I have no real idea why it was happening, but suspect Parallels puts some limit on the amount of data you can calculate all at once. Once that is exceeded, something gets corrupted and you can't play that career anymore. You can't even open it.

Also, performance under Parallels was slow and choppy. In particular, moving between player cards while scouting the draft was a real chore.

I do not suggest that anyone use Parallels to run FOF2007, even though it seems like the kind of program Parallels should be able to run easily.

I've now started using a Bootcamp partition to run FOF2007, and it's running blindingly fast there, with no issues so far, though I have only gotten a couple of seasons into my career. I really don't expect any issues from FOF2007 in that environment, but some folks do have problems with Bootcamp and Parallels running together. I've tried this and have noticed a few quirks. I say this about Parallels -- it's not really ready yet. If all you want to do is run FOF2007 on an Intel Mac, do Bootcamp and forget about Parallels until they finish with it. I mean, even if you didn't expect to use FOF2007 in Parallels, just having it on your machine (if it's connected to your Bootcamp partition anyway) screws with your partition and endangers all your data, including your FOF2007 files.

I hope the one or two of you out there this might apply to see this post before it is gone..

I've got a new Macbook coming in the mail, and I was worried about having to play FOF2007 on my desktop, only.

I love the fact that you can dual boot windows on a mac, the only problem I have is that I have to buy Windows XP, lol.

Just curious if anyone has an update on performance on a Mac... I'm not too concerned about running parallels (although parallels looks good and I might run it that way if I could).

But the big picture is right now I'm running a Windows desktop and a MacBook. In the coming year, if I can afford to upgrade, I'm going to be moving to an iMac for a desktop machine, so it's important to me that this game will work well on a Mac machine running Windows.

Also, if anyone has any info on how finicky the licensing will be if I'm going to move it from my old PC to my potentially new iMac and my MacBook, that would be nice to know.

EDIT: I see people are having success with Bootcamp... interested to know if anyone's had any issues of any kind, though.

I haven't had FOF on my machine since the version that came just before the god-awful buggy EA edition. (I think I still may "own" it, but I think it was an e-license, and I don't have the install file, and I think Digital River is dead)

So far, after 20 years of a SP game, I haven't had any issues in Bootcamp and I don't expect to see any.

I have no idea what that meant. *shurg*

Let me break it down for you then - the subject was the performance of FOF2007 on an Intel Mac via Parallels, a program that allows you to run Windows XP within Mac OS X.

Not very many people own a Mac in the first place, and of those, not too many run Parallels, and of those, it appears there are only a couple of us trying to run FOF2007 with it. From a previous post, I can count two. (The other fellow has not made an appearance in this thread.)

I expressed my wish that he (and whoever else might have been interested, but had not posted about it) might gather the information before it scrolled off the screen, as poorly attended threads are wont to do.

Is that clear enough?

...before it scrolled off the screen, as poorly attended threads are wont to do...

That's the part I wasn't getting, sorry.

I thought you were insinuating that the forum might delete a post critical of the game... and I was hoping to disabuse you of that notion, if that were so.
