Just curious to see what you guys regret doing in the game most of all.
I traded Vince Young 80/80, a future 3rd, and a future 2nd to Baltimore for Haloti Ngata 84/84 and a 1st. I was kind of in a bad spot because I had franchised Young and he was unwilling to work on a contract. I'm not quite sure what the franchise player rules are in the game. In the NFL you can only tag someone twice, I believe. So, in my mind I was actually getting some value as opposed to just letting him walk. Only two teams even had the cap room to take on Young.
Anyways, I did the deal and saw my team go from 3-1 to 6-10 and missed the playoffs for the first time in four years. The thing is, my team was loaded and I basically traded away my best chance at a bowl ring because I was scared of just letting him walk.
One more...
I usually never give guys huge contacts in free agency. Well, one year I am sitting there with an abnormally large amount of space on the cap. Stupidly, I splurged on Mark Anderson. At the time he was the second best defensive end in the game. Well, I ended up giving him around 15M/yr. Wouldn't you know the third preseason game he gets injured. I believe it was a degenerative hip condition that put him out for two years. Oy...
Anyways, any horror stories from you guys?

I regret having to trade away my first stud franchise QB under the same circumstances you traded Young, but it worked out for me - I got enough draft picks to get his replacement, a RB, and a Safety who were the backbone for an extended playoff run where we won 7 FOF Bowls in 12 years or something like that.

Just an update to the VY trade:
Well, Vince went on to win the MVP that year but the Ravens missed the playoffs. I wasn't able to find a stud quarterback in the draft so I signed Jason Campbell(45/45) almost as an afterthought to run things until I could get a young QB in there. This is 2013 so Campbell is getting up there in age at this point. So what happens? Campbell throws for 5305 yards and 39 touchdowns en route to Offensive MVP and First Team Quarterback awards. He also took me to the AFC Championship game where I barely lost to the eventual Superbowl champion Steelers.
Well, the next draft came around and again there are no potential star QBs. Now I don't have to panic because I know Campbell can handle the load. Untl then, I'm just setting my team up for when the young gun can come in.

Playing my stud quarterback in a meaningless week 16 game to make sure we went 16-0 and seeing him get injured and us crash out of the play-offs.
Paying far too much heed to my scout when they say a player is "very undervalued" when the game first came out.

I traded the oft-injured (at least when he was a Redskin in my league) Vincent Mink on whom I wasted a 1st round pick for a couple of draft choices who didn't amount to much.
Mr. Mink, under the new trainer for the Jets, is now an iron man and chucks the ball around for about 4000 yards per year.
Still I was getting sick of his IR antics so while it was my worst mistake I don't regret it too much.

I have forgotten to clean the garage; vaccuum the car; feed my son, wife and dog; go to work; eat; sleep; renew my drivers licsense; and call my mom.
Hmm, alot of mistakes to choose from - I'd say the feeding the family thing is tops though.

I signed Devin Hester who already had some injury problems to a big contract in his 6th year of experience and he has missed many games in his first two years. He plays well when he is in there, but it is not nearly enough to justify his salary.

I traded away Aaron Rodgers when a stud QB was available at #3. Now Rodgers is a annual all-pro, and my stud QB never got a QB rating higher than 71 until I cut him 4 years later.
I also spent a ton of money on Dwight Freeney, coming off a 12-sack, All-pro season. First year with me he plays 10 games, has 1 total sack, a complete non-factor. No one will trade for him at this point, I don't renegotiate until the final contract year per house rule, so I'm considering taking something like a $15 million cap hit.

I agree with the group: the two biggest, toughest decisions in the game (and potentially the biggest boo-boos as well) are when to ditch a good quarterback and when to sign a really top flight - read expensive - FA.
I build around my QB when possible and it hurts me to let them go. I usually wait until their 13th year or later, when those red bars are visibly shrinking. I never sign top FAs unless I am in an SP universe where other teams are dumping talent and I am not even close to my cap number.
That said, my biggest mistake (a great interview question, by the way) would have to be letting my 60 Packer dynasty taper off without having an heir QB ready for Bart Starr's crown. I had the top draft choices, but just couldn't find the right guy...can you spell Aaron Rodgers ?
