Just purchased FOF2k7 a day or two ago and would just like to say it's amazing.
I have a question regarding the AI in some roster decisions. Does the AI take into account future ratings when evaluating team needs? I ask this because the 49ers (who already had Alex Smith[61/81]) drafted Brady Quinn[46/78] second overall. Now they have Quinn wasting away on the bench. Another example of this that I saw was with the Tennessee Titans (same dynasty). They franchised Kerry Collins (two years in a row) while they have Vince Young waiting in the wings. Collins also only had a QB rating of around 74 both years, so I don't understand why the AI would even consider giving so much coin to keep him.
Has anyone else seen strange AI decisions like this? Is there any explanation as to why they would make such dumb moves? I love this game and this is one of the only problems I have with it.

Things like this happen in real life too. Not every pick should make sense and I believe that 2k7 has been a huge improvement as far as the AI drafting goes, yet I don't mind a slight margin of head scratching moves.
A rating of 74 for a QB is HUGE as far as I'm concerned. What is Vince's ratings? Remember, the game has no idea who Vince Young is, all they know is ratings, performance, and contract money.
The other move with Alex Smith on the team, is his contract almost up? Could explain why they drafted Quinn.

The 74 was Collins' passer rating.

Vince Young is a 29/77 while Kerry Collins is a 43/43. I can understand if the AI was simply grooming Young for a couple of years, but the fact that Collins was franchised twice (without putting up great stats/not having a rating to justify a franchise tag) is hard for me to understand.
Alex Smith had about 5 or 6 years left on his deal when the 49ers drafted Quinn.
I understand that not every pick/move in the NFL makes sense, and I certainly realize that this AI is one of the best on the sim market. Not trying to complain as much as I'm just trying to understand the AI's rationale for making these moves. Thank you for the replies!

The AI at the start seems to get a bit weird when it comes to drafting quarterbacks. I think once you get further into a career it tends to settle down a bit but there are still some questionable moves made. Then again there are in real life as well.

Yeah, I don't mind seeing a few here and there, in FOF 2k4 it made goofy draft picks all the time. It's much improved this time around and all I can suggest is sending an email to Jim with details on the AI moves.

Like picking a WR in the top ten for 3 years in a row?:)
