PBP: QB completes the pass to RB for 48 yards. RB gained 4 YAC.

I assume the ball was caught 44 yards down the field by the RB which certainly seems like a long/deep throw.

This play came from a SB Formation with 2TE.

Looking at the play list for this formation, there is no long pass to the RB listed.

The RB's correct name was used in the text of the PBP. Game stats show the RB had 18 YAC on 3 receptions...and his longest reception was for 48 yards!

How does a RB catch a 48 yard pass from this formation??

Could he have been a secondary deep receiver on this play to say a SE/FL that the QB checked off to?

Remember that FOF does some sort of statistical randomization on these plays. For example, you'll see (at least prior to 6.1, have not watched games in 6.1 yet) a medium pass completed 7 yards downfield, even though that's really a short pass by game description.

The traditional explanation would be something along the lines of "imagine the RB saw a seam and took advantage of a blown coverage".

The RB may also have not been the primary receiver. The playcall may have been (for example) for a Medium pass to the SE who was covered, so the second option was to the RB deep.

Skydog had a thread about how YAC is too low compared to the NFL, but that the yards/completion (or attempted, whatever) is spot on. It could be that the getting downfield factor is taken into account, but that the stats generated mess up the yards after catch. in other words, your guy caught a swing pass and busted it for 48 yards, but the game simply said it was a bomb to the running back.
Or you can just believe that the QB was scrambling around and the RB saw an open patch in the secondary and went long.
