I just received the game yesterday and i'm having a blast. I took the Texans, because I love rebuilding a team from scratch. Lost my first regular season game 31-28 in overtime to KC. I'm calling my own plays on both sides of the ball. I have a couple of questions on some items.
1. Can you Dbl team TE's in this game? (T. Gonzalez was killing me)
2. I had an enormous amount of penalties, around 12 to 15. Is there something in the players attributes that dictates a person having mental errors?
3. Does your QB make more than 1 read? I've notice when I call pass plays there are only (2) routes. Even if I have 5 wides, only 2 routes are shown. Does the QB throw to someone else if thoses 2 routes are covered?
4. I have my injuries set at 100. I've had 3 injuries so far, with one player out for 9 weeks. What is the injury setting for SP Play calling?
5. What should I look for in a players attributes that are really important?
6. Are there diamonds in the rough in this game?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Someone can help you a lot more than I can, but injury settings shouldn't be altered just because you call your own plays... the frequency remains the same. Anyways, 200 is average if you want real life equivalences.

2 more questions.:
6. Can a player go over his Max. potential attributes?
7. I wanted to use a west coast offense playbook. How do I do this when I'm doing the playcalling? Is there a sections to change offensive playbooks?

Thanks, I move up the setting. I want realism. I'm also playing on wall street setting, if that helps.

6. Some players have masked ratings. A player can definitely end up going over his max potential, and many more will never come close to reaching that number.
7. There are no playbooks. You have a set of plays you can call from different formations. If you want to run the West Coast, then select passes at shorter distances, and frequently target your Backs and TE's.

1. No, you can only double team wide receivers.
2. Penalties are primarily related to the discipline rating of your head coach.
3. I'm not 100% positive as I don't usually call plays, but I do think a QB with a high read defense rating will make more than 2 reads.
4. As Shorty said, 200 is the most realistic, but also frustrating for some players.
5. Depends upon the position. There are plenty of threads that will talk about what to look for and the help file is helpful in determining what some of the ratings do.
6. Absolutely. Some players will bust, others will boom, others will be creepers. There are different career development tragectories for different players.
(2nd) 6. Yes. The current and future ratings are a guessestimate of the scout and both ratings can be wrong. Players can have both their current and future ratings go up above what they start at when they are first drafted. In fact, one way of helping predict if a player is going to boom is to watch to see if his current and future rating both go up after his 1st training camp.
7. Again, I don't call my own plays, but I don't believe the play calling is that differentiated in the game. I think if you call your own plays, you get access to all of the plays that your QB knows and that is it. QB's will learn more formations as they get older and if you focus on watching films during training camp.

1. Nope, there is no screen that allows you to double a TE. The best suggestion for dealing with a TE is making sure your best pass coverage LB doesn't blitz very much.
2. Penalties are tied to the coach. You want to get a coach with a higher discipline rating.
3. Nope, the QB will only throw to one of those 2 options, but sometimes he will choose to scramble.
4. I haven't noticed any difference with injuries in playcalling vs. simming. 100 is actually pretty low compared to NFL standards. Look at your average NFL team injury list.
5. Depends on so many factors. If you want to run the West Coast, then you want QB's who have high accuracy/screen/short/medium ratings, etc. You'd want backs and WR's to have high Getting Downfield ratings.
6. Yes. Every once in a while there will be a veteran boom that seems to come out of nowhere. In the draft, if you go by combines instead of bars, you'll see this happen more often.

Thanks for the info guys.
I really love that there are injuries and penalities and they can be controled by attributes.
I'm really bummed out that I can only throw to the 2 routes on a pass play. If you do your own play calling you will see what I mean. Ex: if i go 4 WR, it only shows me (2) routes on that play, instead of (4) routes like it should. This means if the 2 routes are covered, than the qb has nowhere to throw. This really doesn't make sense. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the realism of the game so far.
Thanks again.

There are different career development tragectories for different players.
This applies very well towards many of my draft picks.

What do you mean by Career development?

Generally, players will either improve or decline early in their career and keep heading that way, until they get to their "true" ratings. However, other players will gain a bit, lose a bit, etc. This version is the least predictable of any of the versions, which is a very good thing.

I could be completely wrong, and I've never played quarterback in real life, but I've been under the impression that most plays don't have more than a couple receivers who have the oppurtunity of getting the ball.
I think that there is a main receiver (the first one listed in FOF, I think) and then a check down route. The other routes ran by the other WR's, TE's, or RB's/FB's, are simply used to get the main two guys open.
This is only an NFL fan's viewpoint, so take it with a grain of salt. But I seem to hear commentators and analysts talk a lot about stuff like this.

Lol, yes, there are more routes if you have 3 to 4 WR going out for passes. The back will go out as a check down if he has no one to block. Qb's will do up to 4 reads if he like P. Manning and he has the time in the pocket. Most good QB's will read 2 to 3.

In FOF, when you are doing playcalling, you basically just need to think of it as "ok, who do I want to try to make this next catch"
