I dont get to play as often as I would like (~3 hours a week), but definitely love the challenge of FOF2k7. I have to admit because I can troll the forums at work I tend to read more about the game than actual play time.

As a new player I was searching for a unwritten rules list? Things that are typically frowned upon in Single Player mode and absolutely outlawed in the Multi-Player world. Or things that people tend not to do in SP and do in MP, because the stakes are higher?

I am just curious in case some day I find the time to join a MP league or start a Dynasty thread. -thanks

In single player it's obviously pretty much up to you. Any 'cheating' that you do is only cheating yourself and it's up to you how you want to get your fun. Having said that, there are some exploitable things in the game that are generally frowned upon. I'm sure the more experienced players will give you a more extensive list, but the few I have heard about are:

- Save scumming (reloading an old game when something doesn't go your way). Obviously this isn't possible in multiplayer anyway.

- Trading future year draft picks with bad teams to give yourself high picks every year. In fact trading down into future year picks generally is a bit dicey, because if you plan it right you can end up with about 10 first round picks in one year in a few years time, which is obviously unrealistic.

- Exploiting the slightly shady player AI by offering single year contracts with big signing bonuses to star players, which for some reason they tend to prefer to big multi-year deals.

I havent herd the word "scumming" used that way since Angband

Thanks for the feedback, just the tidbits I was looking for.
I am doing a historic team right now, so I was debating on whether I should "know" if a stud QB/RB, or whatever was coming down the line in the coming drafts and get ready for it so i have the ammo to trade up for him.
This now makes me feel like I should start from a fresh draft of random generated to add to the luster and excitement of who is good and such.
-thanks

If you turn the X-factor on, it's pretty random anyway, especially for younger players. I mean sure, Peyton Manning will always be good, but JaMarcus Russell could be anything from a bust to a journeyman to a superstar.

I've never done a historic league, so I can't really comment on that. I think to a certain extent it's unavoidable if you import real life drafts. I'm not sure how the X-factor affects imported drafts, maybe the likes of Sanders, Montana and Rice are not 'sure things' if it is turned on, I don't know.

Hmmm. I've always been under the assumption that the X-Factor only applies to the players in the original file, but now that I think about it, I have no idea if it affects the players in the draft file.

And for Redhawk...

If playing historical replays is cool for you, then go for it. But, if you aren't sure about how much fun playing fictional is, just let me tell you that I once was convinced that I would hate playing with fictional players. Little would I know, once I started I never went back.

Much as I love MalcPow's dynasty, he helped me discovery an AI weaness IMO that I tried once successfully and since feel bad because it seemed cheap: I think the AI overvalues draft picks, I traded two 2nd round picks for a 82/82 3rd yr cb. That's ridic.

BTW, with x-factor on, historical files are affected but usually not too crazily- you get most of the guys you'd expect be stars, but then Brett Favre busts and "this game is so unrealistic!" :-D

FWIW, my main dynasty right now is historical and I deliberately avoid knowing who's going to be coming down the pike when to reduce that very temptation.

Admittedly, this is going to be very difficult when 1983 rolls around, but I've told myself I won't trade for ammunition in the '83 draft unless it genuinely makes sense for the teams involved.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have searched for house rules and this was really handy. I think I can see now where I am headed with FOF.
