I just read the "Coaches Corner thread regarding scouts and scouting. I found it to be a great thread btw. I see alot of people are confused on the topic of scout as was I. But thinking long and hard it came to me. This is what I got from it.
The draft, as Bill Parcels stated, "is not an exacte science". Parcel is right, its not and I beleive Jim got this down pack on the game. Jim made the draft and scouting a guessing game, just like the NFL. Yes, we have scouts in this game that we rely on for info, but so does the NFL, and they pay them real money to boot, and they still get it wrong time to time. Sometimes we are going to draft a (Ryan Leaf, Charles Roger, Cedric Benson, Robert Gallery or Michael Williams). Yet we will also get a (Tom Brady, Tony Romo, or Antonio Gates). This I believe is the beauty of this game, making a close to the real NFL. What fun would it be if we knew when a player was going to be a boom everytime like clockwork. To me that will kill the game, but to not really be sure with a slight uncertianty is what we want or atleast I do. We just need to look at what the scouts says, see the rookies combine scores, see the rookies college stats, and hope that this player is the player of the future for your team.
What I've been doing is looking at a rookies college stats and see how tough his game schedule was. Is he playing top 10 schools in his schedule or is he playing low rank schools. I want to know why his stats are low or high. This info comes from TCY. I go back in the saved seasons and see all of this info. Just food for thought guys.
Just wanted to say again, great thread these "coaches corner" are to us.
