Hello all.

I'm hoping someone can clear up some fuzziness I have around weight training. Obviously a player who is short for his position is going to probably also be under weight, so in the end, is the only thing that matters for weight training the mass/body ratio?

I have a good running back (65/65) who is 5'7", 212, HT is significantly below average, WT is below average, and body/mass is a bit high... I'm a little nervous about trimming down my already small RB so I'm looking for advice.

Similarly, I have a 6'7", 328, exceptional DT (85/85) who is HT significantly above, WT is significantly above, and mass/body ratio is a bit high. Do I dare trim him down?

Lastly, in the documentation is says:

"Players who are at the ideal weight for the their positions will perform better."

Does this mean that I should leave my RB the way he is (closer to his ideal weight for his position) and trim down my DT (closer to the ideal weight for DTs) and ignore their height values? Or when it is talking about "ideal weight" is it referring to mass/body ratio?

Yeah, so as you can see I need some help, lol. Thanks in advance :)

Regrettably, this isn't very clear.

Here's a very recent discussion, including comment form the developer, but I fear you will end up with your questions still unanswered.

I'm of the opinion that the biggest reason to change weight is to change positions or take a chance to boost a talented athlete. If you have a guy who is very good as is and have no intention to change his position, leave him alone. If you have a guy who is not meeting expectations and looks to be at the wrong weight, then maybe that's the time to take a risk.

Jim says height matters at a few positions. He says players perform better at the ideal weight for their position. They need to be a certain weight to make a position switch.
Anything else is just superstition as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you all for the responses. Given that both of these guys are pretty solid I think I'll leave them alone; they are also fairly late in their careers, so I'd rather let sleeping dogs lie.

It's funny though, I'd say at least 1/2 my team was out of sync with their ideal weight and they could be shifted easily (i.e. no "further trimming/bulking will have no effect" message). It'll be interesting to see what things look like after training camp...

Thanks again.

I always thought the goal of weight training was to get each player as close to "average" as possible when it comes to body mass? Therefore a player who was slighty "above average" would be best to cut weight regardless what he weighed to make the BM "average". Am I wrong in thinking that?

I believe you are correct.

Anything to back this up?No studies, purely based on my perception. I've seen a few good players maxed out on ratings tank when I tried to change weight, particularly cornerbacks. Any my anecdotal experience is guys with a decent amount of green seem to gain experience points when I work on their weight. So my feeling is if a guy is fully developed leave him alone, if he's having trouble filling out the bars to red and could use weight training, give it a shot. Otherwise I only use it to get players to a certain weight so I can change their positions. Rarely succeeds though, for the position change.
