Werewolf Highlander- THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!
This is a semi- traditional game of werewolf. Every player is a highlander, a player in a mystical game where everyone is immortal. Many of you have lived hundreds of years and fought many battles with your sword.
The goal of the game is simple, be the last person alive. The only way you can be killed is by another highlander cutting off your head.
In addition to the roles listed below there will be wolves in the game wreaking havoc. The wolves are also highlanders and have all the individual win conditions and actions associated with that.
Game Cycles- For arguments sake each day in real life is a week in the game.
Day Actions- Traditional WW where each day a player is selected to be lynced. This takes place in NY city ( a location of signifigance later in the game). The deadline for this will be 8:00 PM EST.
There will be no ties and non voters will be punished. No lynch is not an option.
All roles will be revealed upon death.
Night Actions- Will be due by 11:00 AM EST- Wolves will submit their night target. In addition to that each player must select a city to travel to. The Cities are:
Seattle
Miami
San Fransisco
Dallas
Chicago
Boston
Washington DC
Philadelphia
Las Vegas
If you find yourself in the same city as another Highlander you will experience “the Quickining” An instinctive surge inside you that lets you know to get ready for battle. Once you engage in battle with another highlander the victor will absord the losers power, cut off their head, and the loser will be out of the game. Not all battles will result in death.
Battles
Each player will be assigned a strength number, simply put this is how strong you are. Numbers will range from 1-10
Each player will be given a speed number, each number will range 1-10.
Every player is given 30 power points to begin the game. Each night when you submit your location you must also submit the number of power points you wish to use.
The outcome of the duel will be determined by a players strength + speed+ power points. The player with the most points may win the duel. Certain outside factors may result in a draw. In the case of a draw the player does not get their power points used returned to them, so use them wisely. If a player does not duel they do not lose their power points for that night.
There will not be a duel every night for every player, outside factors may inhibit the quickening, based on what city you are currently in.
Once you defeat a player in a duel you then take control of their remaining power points.
If you are involved in 2 or more duels in a row you may find yourself tired.
EXAMPLE
Player A and Player B both find themselves in Dallas. Player A has a speed factor of 6 and a strength factor of 4. They use 4 power points for a total of 14.
Player B had a speed factor of 8 and a strength of 4. They use 6 power points for a total of 18. Barring any outside influence Player B will win the duel and take Player A’s remaining 26 points.
Non- Wolf Roles
Conner MacLeod- A wise, crafty , talented highlander. Can not be lynched.
Brenda Wyatt- The only non highlander in the game. You have excellent investigative skills and each night can scan one player to test their allegiance.
The Kurgan- You are the strongest, most powerfull Highlander. If lynched you may select one other player to take with you. If night attatcked you have an excellent chance of fighting off your attacker (s)
Ramirez- You are one of the oldest highlanders. You posses excellent sword skills and the ability to teach others. Each night you select one player to protect each night. You may not protect the same player 2 nights in a row. You may protect yourself.
All other players are elidgeable to be wolves.
Win conditions.
Ultimate win- Be the last remaining highlander alive. The final battle will be determined differently then all other battles and will require both parties to be online.
Minor Win- All wolves are eliminated from the game
Wolf Minor Victory- Eliminate all highlanders.

Given Christopher Lambert's accent in the film I think any effort you make at a Scottish accent will be in keeping with the film. (Who thought having a Frenchman play a Scot while having a Scot playing an, erm, Ancient Egyptian was it was a great idea)?
Anyway, with a likely night kill and duel kill every night and a lynch every day this will probably be over pretty quickly. Not sure there's too much to discuss until after the first deadline. 16 players in 9 locations means something's going to happen tonight.

You arrive in New york, something weighing heavy on your mind. It is bad enough there are highlanders trying to cut off your head but now you must meet with them and address this new problem, wolves. No one could have seen this coming.
You arrive in St. PAtricks Cathedral and the rest of your enemies are there. No one is missing. After some discussion it is decided each night you must kill someone who is suspected of being a wolf. There will be no reward for this, it is not a kill with honor.
As you exit the church you decided to check the weather report for today, it looks like storms are coming.

No duel seems odd unless Lathum had already decided there weren't going to be any on Night 0 (which would make sense given the wording of his description - although it doesn't explain why we would have to go through the rigaramole of submitting orders). No night kills either apparently. So either we got very lucky with an early bodyguard block, Kurgen was targeted or the night was intended to be, basically, a free scan by the seer.
Anyway the deadlines aren't going to favour me in this game. I'll get back later this evening and see if there's anything more to go on.

My impression is that we would duel anyone in the same location if possible. What you're saying happened does suggest that we have some control over it, although who knows what's that based on. I doubt that duels will only be wolves vs villagers as that would be pretty powerful for the villagers - maybe there was a night 1 amnesty.
I think villagers should have in mind that none of us will get a major victory if the wolves win. We should be looking to eradicate the wolves first and foremost and then worry about the major victory after that.
I'm only really going to get one more shot at posting here before deadline. Hopefully someone will say something super-incriminating and I'll be able to vote for them, as I hate random day one votes.

Not a huge fan of this line as people might have genuine reasons for going missing and if they have a role they won't be able to reveal that role if they're put under pressure. Also targeting non-shows is often the line of least resistance taken by wolves to get an easy lynch.

That is my thinking too - I think we should be able to get something out of the people that have been around, at least more than those who haven't. It won't be much, we all know that, but no point in just throwing votes to people that aren't here, unless of course you don't care who dies (wolf)

Sorry, I don't buy that line of thinking. I just don't see the net benefit of it.

Additionally, in a game like this where villagers are going to off villagers, it's to the wolves advantage to just keep quiet for the onset to see how things shake out.
Hell our seer and our bodyguard could both go to the same city for a duel on Night one and we could lose one that way.

So I'm better off going after someone who is contributing and would have to reveal if they had a role anyhow?
Well, let's be honest, there hasn't really been a whole lot of contributing yet. I mean is there really a big difference between someone saying "checking in" and someone not posting at all?
Yes they would have to reveal their role and thus save themselves and leaving the wolves and the bodyguard the decision of whether they're going to be targeted. As opposed to someone who forgot the start time or who has lost internet connection and would consequently not have that opportunity to reveal.
Lathum's said non-contributors are going to lose their duels automatically, so if you're really worried about your list not showing up chances they should be killed in duels pretty quickly.

He said people who didn't send an action would lose automatically, not non-contirbutors. There's a difference there.
What I'm saying is, it's not exactly a bad wolf ploy here to keep pretty mum starting out, send whatever action they need to and let villagers off villagers for a few days and then re-assess. We've already seen that people are just going to naturally go to the same cities and if I'm interpreting things correctly, duels happen whether intentional or not. Heck, if you and I pick the same city tonight Narc we could be in a duel. The wolves have to be seeing that as being to their advantage and could/should be striving to just stay alive.

Ah gotcha, is that how it'd work? I honestly don't know enough about the backstory here.
Same principle applies, our BG and the unlynchable guy could meet up and BAM one dies.
My general point here is that there are going to be more deaths than normal that are completely out of our control. That's a wolf advantage situation.

Which looks good for all of the Mrs S voters barring NTN, but particularly good for Packer and Path. Unless NTN is also bad, in which case I don't think anything can really be read into it. While it's not unheard of for there to be 2 wolf candidates in a day one vote it seems pretty unlikely, so I'll go with the assumption that Path and Packer should get a lot of trust, Heinz a fair bit and Barkeep a bit (it's not unheard of for wolves to cast the first vote on another wolf).
Can't help but feel that clap, Sal and myself come out looking bad from the voting. I made a case for not voting for a no-show early on while all our votes could be construed as save attempts (an early one in my case). Of course there's a chance that the wolves decided fairly early not to make any attempt to save Mrs S. Mustang, illi and Gramm's votes all looked like throwaway votes. to me, the most incriminating vote of the day was illinifan...he came in and dropped the telle vote, then left again...that really muddled the waters by making it 4/3/2 when instead, he could have put it to 4/4.

Well, of course, you would say that. :) As it happens that's pretty much how I would have played it as well but I'm just saying that you shouldn't be surprised if people think it looks suspicious. You have to pay the price (of distrust) for tying up the vote against a wolf.
Not sure what to make of illifan's vote although I would like to hear an explanation as to why he thought he should start a third candidate rather than voting for one of the two main ones at that stage. It does seem odd. Then again were he a wolf wouldn't he just have voted for NTN? I know wolves don't all want to link their votes and be too overt about saving a team member but I have a hard time seeing him voting anywhere but on NTN at that stage were he a wolf.
illinifan999
09-10-2008, 08:07 AM
I didn't vote for Mrs. S because it looked like she was going to get lynched already, and I don't really feel that NTN is a wolf, so rather than put a tie on someone I don't think is a wolf and possibly have them get lynched, I tried to get a 3rd candidate going.
Narcizo
09-10-2008, 08:27 AM
I can't really get that to add up. If you thought Mrs S was going to get lynched anyway, what's the point of trying to start up a third candidate. If you're basing your vote on them not having checked in (which is all you've got to go on for either Mrs S or Telle) then I can't see a reason to try and split the no-show vote. Particularly if you feel that NTN isn't a wolf. If you really have any reason to think NTN isn't a wolf (ie have a degree of feeling above the base 75-80% chance he isn't a wolf) then you should be voting for Mrs S to make sure he doesn't get lynched.
illinifan999
09-10-2008, 08:41 AM
My degree of feeling that he isn't a wolf is that high. I thought Mrs. S was going to by lynched, so I wanted to vote for a 3rd party and see if that would start up some discussion. I got my wish, and it did, unfortunately I started up the discussion on myself. :(

I'm curious as to why I only get a fair bit of trust compared to path and PF. I made a solid vote to make it 2-2-1 when I could've gone 3-1-1 or 2-1-1-1. Realistically for the village if one things NTN is villager than I made the ideal vote.
Oh, and the whole fact that I championed the whole voting for non-check-in people in the face of criticism. ;)

My degree of feeling that he isn't a wolf is that high. I thought Mrs. S was going to by lynched, so I wanted to vote for a 3rd party and see if that would start up some discussion. I got my wish, and it did, unfortunately I started up the discussion on myself. :(
Curious as to why you would have such a feeling about someone on day 1. Could you elaborate?

Well, that's the Strangeness I meant actually. Multiple people jabbed at me for doing that strategy, including you and then lo and behold, like 3/4ths of the votes go to people on that list.
I know its the strategy in the beginning just because there is nothing else to go off of and I don't particularily like it. I fell victim to it once and had to spend the rest of the game defending myself because I couldn't be around on day 1 because some unforeseen event came up.
Given that, that is why I still voted for Telle. Figured most people were voting that way anyways.
(has to be a more interesting starting point somewhere.. just haven't found it yet since most 1st day kills are either people not checking in or people successful in previous WW games, but that is a discussion for another thread...)

I've always used not checking in as a basis for my day 1 vote. But I'm on record as hating day 1's anyhow. I think most times it ends up between two villagers who are parsing too carefully.

you are all enjoying the city of your choice, when subbenly your sight is clouded and your brain fills with powerfull images.
Somewhere there is a dual.
The majestic sight of the golden gate bridge looks like an observer in the background. Suddenly the image comes into focus. Saldana's sword moves with the gracefull flow like water, slashing blows at Telle. She counters his attacks and swoops in. Saldana nimbly steps aside and twirls, the punk tail of his overcaot spinning behind him, almost in slow motion. Telle overbalances and in one swift arc saldanas arm shoots down, his sword not even an extension, almost a pert of him.
The blade slices Telles head off in one swift motion. Purpleish-blue lighting scatters everywhere and absorbs into saldana. He collaps exausted, yet more powerfull looking.
You are all stunned, as you look are Rameriz lying headless on the ground.

just as soon as your sight clears another vision appears. This time it is a back alley behing the imposing figure of the abondaned texas stadium.
JeHeinze and Narcizo are locked in a fierce battle. Rain is pouring down as streaks of lighting accent there sword blades.
hmm, you think to yourself. I just checked the Dallas weather, only a 60% chance of rain.
Narcizo takes advantage of a momentery laspe in Heinze's concentration and strikes a blow to the side of his head, heainze stumbles back, dazed.
Narcizo swoops in for the kill but Heinz was faking. Heinze leaps forward, supprisingly quick for a big guy, and thrusts his sword through narcizos stomach. Graps his face and throws him to the ground. Pulls him up by his hair and sends the blade of his sword throug his neck.
As with Saldana, Heinze absorbs lighting all into his body, and seems to grow larger.
Narcizo was a highlander.

Those of you who haven't dueled or survived your duel arrive in New York, same as last week.
You all discuss the duels that you witnessed. Ranirez will be missed, he was a mentor to many of you.
There is a silver lining however, it seems the wolves did not strike.
Day 2 has begun. PM's going out now.
Deadline 8:00 PM EST.

Telle did not submit a night action and her random city chosen put her in the same city as saldana. The circumstanced were right for a duel. Which she lost.
I am posting this info because I don't think it would be fair for saldana to ssuffer the speculation that it may have been a BG block gone wrong.

Kind of what I was starting to wonder. Not sure of the non wolf kill.
Either -
A. A name wasn't submitted
B. Wolfs can't kill when engaged in a duel
C. Ramirez blocked it
D. Wolfs can only kill when in the same city as their intended victim

I'd also add E. There is some sort of cap on kills per night
Frankly that was my thought going into the night, that there has to be some sort of preventative measure against something like 5 villager deaths in the same night.

Reason I ask this, is because maybe (and it'd be tricky) we rig the locations of everyone each night. I don't know if it's in the villages best interest to have all of these duels where we lose people ala Telle our BG and Narc, a strong player.
We could send one person each to 8 cities and then have our least trusted folks all head to the 9th city and let God sort 'em out. We'd get the benefit of a wolf possibly losing a duel and we'd possibly minimize our self-carnage.

I thought I would make a quick post as to explain my inactivity. I apologized already to Lathum and my fellow wolfies, but just so the group knows, our daughter was pretty sick over the weekend and into yesterday - running a high fever and such. I was pretty focused on her and also working late and going in early, so honestly, I flaked. Sorry to my fellow WWers. I usually am a nighttime poster, but not inactive in votes and night action etc.

It sounds like D might be the best option here.
That was my least likely option given the # of cities. If you have 5 people left and 1 wolf, makes it harder on the wolf to win actually.
I'd agree with the option E though (cap limit). With 15 people (I think it was 15 people left last night), you have the potential for 7 duels which would be alot.
