View Full Version : FaF Reader 1.41 and the ability to change birthdates
I have TCY and want to start my league in the 70's. However, the poblem is that when I export a draft from tcy, i get birthdates that are in the 80's. So, is there a way that I can change the values (birthdays) in the faf reader to match the years I want to use in fof2007? Thanks in advance.
a way to change the whole column at once instead of each one at a time, i meant. sry. :)
Hmmm, I guess I cold use excel and do a find/replace. However, when pasting it into the faf reader it changes beack to the original birthdates.
When you do have it in Excel, save it as a csv file and use it to generate a new draft file with the FOF2k4 draft generator.
I will try that. Thx so much.

i did an app to randomize a series of draft files, i think will a small amount of effort I can update this to change a single file to a desired birth year range. PM me if your excel solution does not work.
yeah, what Eric said did not work. i would have haft change 3-4 columns of errors. I would really appreciate your help so long as universe starts at 1970 using TCY.Ill PM you.

Did you have a single file you were trying to update or several files in a directory you are trying to update?

Here is an updater for .faf files. I have "tested" this on my XP SP2 system with the historic draft files provided in the sticky reference thread. User interface should be self explanatory.
Description:
Input:
1. Name of Original .faf file
2. New path and name for altered file
3. The year that TCY thinks the draft should be for
4. The target year you are going to draft the players
Output:
1. .faf file that alters the birthdates of the players so they are the proper age when inporting into the target year draft.
2. Message box indicating that the file update is done.
!!Please note the attached file is AlterDraftYears.txt, please rename to .exe and execute.
thanks again. you have no idea how much this is gonna help. i'll let you know how it works. i also would like to invite others to jump in on this if they'd like. gonna try this out tonight. ;)
I get an error after renaming the app to .exe. The error says "The applications failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Did I do something wrong.
worked! thanks. not sure what I did the first tiem around to make it not work. (?) lol

good deal, hope all the .faf's you change work out great!
There is one issue after actually using it it. :)
After done updating, I check the faf file and notice that 45 players (901-945) are missing from the file (faf file). Now, when importing into fof2007 there are 45 players that come up as "nothing" in the draft. The position tags are black, and all attributes are weird looking with numbers, symbols, ect. Other than that, everything else worked out. The file imported successfully.
:) Thanks again for even working on this.

FWIW, it's only supposed to import 900 players.

that is the way i wrote the code to support 900 players. I am not sure how FoF supports .faf files with more than 900 players. I can update the code tonight to support 1k if you REALLY want it?
hmm, ok. well, 900 is fine....i just dont know what all of those players are who see cant see and that are all messed up looking. i explained earlier. just sick right now and dont feel like thinking, lol. i will go ahead with a draft and see if those players get drafted and if they mess anything up. i will back the game up and report it.
has anyone who is using this encountered what I am seeing (the players who show up as "nothing" in the draft)? I am still seeing it.

it will stop at the end of the entered file.
i get a "could not find XXXXX file when entering in the location and name path. :( Thx again for doing this.
and when i rename it to exe i get a whole bunch of code stuff. not sure what im doing wrong. on other computers it doesnt do that. it turns right to the exe file. i am burning it on a dvd and bringing this home since i dont have the net anymore. maybe thats it.

not sure what is going on, but my guess is that some Windows options are messing with you, like when you rename it the extension is hidden and does not really change the file. the other thing is it is written in C#, so having the latest .NET might be needed, not sure as i just let automatic updates do its thing...
Thanks for the reply.
I will install the new net framework pack (3.5) and see if that helps. the last one I installed was 2.2 or 2.o or something like that.
what windows options would mess with me that wouldn't let me change the file to exe from txt? Thats a weird one to me, lol.
