View Full Version : 1 week injury- help!

My Punter has picked up an injury so he's out for 1 week. I've signed a FA to cover, but now have 54 players under contract... so I need to either put someone on IR or cut someone.
As you can only put actually injured players on IR that would have to be my backup OLB who's out for 5 (I'm just in game 3). Other option is to cut someone (and then maybe re-sign them after one week???)
Is there anyway of getting round this? Get the Kicker to pull double duty? Convert a backup CB for one week?
Waiving & resigning will cost cash (which as it doesn't get carried over doesn't matter I guess), on the other hand what are the chances of releasing an overpaid vet and him still being avaialble to sign to a lower contract in 2 weeks time?
Any advice for the noob!!! Cheers.

Nope, you're stuck, FOF wants 1 punter and 1 kicker active. Converting a scrub is certainly an option, and there are owners that carry some scrub around just to position-switch him to cover cases like that. But no you can't just have the kicker cover for that one week.

Oh well. Let's either see if the CB can punt, or waive him and see if I can re-sign.
Thanks for ther answer- means I can complete my game tonight!

Hmm, I was pretty sure that as long as the depth chart was filled (here, with your K in both slots) you'd be fine, even if the warning appears. But greg seems pretty sure above, so I'm hesitant to tell you that's certain.

Well, in 6.1 and 6.1a, you're absolutely correct there, Quik. The game would give you a warning, but it would work. 6.2 generally made Otto more aggressive, though, so Greg may be right as of now.

The problem is if he is "Out", then FOF does not consider him "Active", which means he fails the "Min players at position" criteria, which causes the AI to "fix" your roster. FOF wants 1 punter active and 1 kicker active.
2k4 did not count "Out" as "Inactive" and so it was easier to keep an "Out" guy active and play depth chart games.
Check the "Position Distribution" button to be sure.

I don't think you can position switch someone to punter anymore, but I could be wrong(other than a kicker)

FWIW I dealt with this in the old FOWL I'm pretty sure, where with my destroyed cap situation I had a punter get hurt and was unable to just put the kicker in his depth chart spot, I still needed an "Active" punter.

If you cut him, he will get pissed and not resign.

Hi,
There is a place where you can reset the levels of similarity needed for position switching. You might look at that. I think its under miscellaneous?

Overpaid vet=definitely "Past injustices"
Minimum paid guy=less chance of this happening(which this was a nice change jim put in the game)

But again, that was with 6.1 or 6.1a, not 6.2.

Well, then it needs some testing.

In the end I cut the vet, signed a stand in punter for one week (If I shifted my kicker over then I needed a new kicker, it's doesn't allow double duty Koening-style).
Then picked up a different player to address my short term Returning issues.
Thanks for all the advice!

More grist for the mill, since I just had this same situation.
I set my roster with the kicker at both positions, and set it to sign a punter - 45 actives, 7 inactives, so he would come in active.
He was signed, it didn't adjust my roster - including leaving the kicker at the punter spot, even though I had a healthy, active punter on the roster. Just an FYI. Signing the FA will prevent the roster re-shuffle, but I probably would have been better off leaving the P spot open rather than assigning the K there.

The fundamental question that has not been answered yet is did you need to sign a punter at all? I say yes, Ben says no. We need a test case.
