View Full Version : what exactly do OC/DC do?

Since playcalling is listed under HC, I am wondering what exactly are the roles of OC/DC? I could imagine the following possibilities/ hypotheses:

1. their attributes are part of the playcalling equation that got bundled into the HC's playcalling.

2. their attributes affect how the players perform in game. While HC makes the calls, OC/DC affect whether the players can execute the plays properly, on top of the player's individual attributes.

3. OC/DC simply help players' development off the field - good coordinators lead to higher ratings than bad coordinators could.

4. OC/DC simply accelerate player unmasking - players mature faster but will end up the same regardless of the OC/DC attributes.

Any insight?

I've always had a suspicion that they affect position performance slightly, as well, but this is based on purely anecdotal evidence.

I'd say 2 & 4

Final and only answer.

That sounds as if You have done a lot of testing about the effects that coaches have.. any chance that You give us some details how You reached that conclusion?

Sure. Jim pretty much said it directly in one of the Q&As.

I guess You mean Solecismic Q & A: Offensive and Defensive Familiarity - Front Office Football Central (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=62153) concerning Offensive and Defensive Familiarity, right?

But he only says there, that coordinators are not used in the algorithms for the familiarity process. IMHO that doesn't automatically mean that coordinators aren't used as in options 2&3 of the TS's post..

Ben, you say it's 4, but what about option 3.5 - it's not that they end up with higher ratings, but I was under the (possibly) mistaken impression that they help with speed of development as well - how fast CUR goes up.

The faster the current rating goes up, the faster the player is unmasked.

If that's the quote Ben means, I'm with Dandelion. Me, I think coordinators affect performance during TC. It goes without saying it's just a belief.
