I love the crud out of Mogul. It's more than a time waster but less than a spreadsheet, it's not too hot, not too cold, it's just right. For me at least.
This is my first foray into the 2011 version of the game. I'm up to date and ready to go, so what to do, what to do. I think i'll start by taking over the 1977 Mariners and try and build them into a dynasty.
I don't use house rules with Mogul, especially when I start with a small market team. I'm playing on Manager mode or whatever the 3rd (out of 4) hardest setting is.
So yeah, let's go.

This is what my roster looks like when I load the game. Where I have everyone slotted is where I would have them if everything were ideal but I'll likely have most of those players in AA now on my major league roster depending on how the expansion draft goes.
Black, Rawley, Henderson & Craig are really my only STRONG prospects so i'll coddle them. It's also likely that i'll move Henderson & Craig to corner OF spots as I prefer a speedy/contact guy as my CF'er.

My farm, scouting and medical expenses are all $430,000 which ranks me 5th in the league in each category. I'm comfortable with that number.
My payroll budget to start the year is $5.4 Million and I already have $651K tied up in the players on my roster currently.

There were not a whole lot of prospects available obviously. We did try and get some veterans who may bring something in return. Our payroll with this squad is only $200,000 over budget so we don't NEED to move alot of these guys but we arn't gonna win anything this year so I'd rather some of these guys and make money. We'll see what the market is like.

This clears over $1.5 Million in salary and gives us a pretty good prospect at CF, the exact type of Center Fielder I like.

We gave up some borderline pitching surplus but we needed to add some Outfielders as Brock was the only viable starter in the OF we had. The addition of Singleton also gives us some halfway decent power in the lineup, which we are lacking big time.

We send,
RP- Brian Snyder 18 62/78 $32.5K Arb79
To Cincinnati for,
LF- Mike Lum 31 70/70 $40K 3YRS
This deal is nothing more than adding a 5th outfielder without giving alot up.

The offense is not horrible but there's no power and little speed. We'll very much be a station to station team full of veterans which I don't have alot of hopes for of scoring a ton. There really isn't anyone on the big league roster who you can look at as a long term Mariner. I'm not gonna give away Perez, Rose or Nettles but I don't anticipate any of them playing out their contracts here either.

If the staff is going to have any success, Kaat at 38 years old and Downing at 35 will have to provide a solid anchor.
The rest is an obvious mishmash of average journeymen, a bunch of 4th starters if you will.
The pen is very much the same way. I'm hoping Waits can be a competent closer as he has decent upside but again it's a pen full of average pitchers. The other worrisome thing is that we don't have a power pitcher out there, nobody that can dominate.

While we don't have alot of superstar prospects, we do have a solid nucleus of possible contributers.
Wilson and Henderson are guys i'd like to see mature into solid big leaguers but i'm not holding my breath that they're gonna become all-stars. Pitching wise we have alot of depth and I hope that one or two of them develop into a solid 2nd/3rd starters but we're still a few years away.

You enter this dynasty knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, you cannot do worse than Mariners' management did in real life.
Let's go M's! Let's go M's!
