View Full Version : Multiple PC's - Gameplan Changes

Having moved to a two PC set up at the moment it's been a bit of a baptism of fire to see that gameplans don't get updated as part of a turn file in multi-player.

By this I mean I can change a gameplan, upload it, but after the turn runs if I unzip the turn on the other machine I don't see the gameplan used but instead the last gameplan I used on that PC. Seems a crazy idea but those in the know in leagues have confirmed that's what happens.

So based on this I'm wandering what constitutes a gameplan change when uploading my turn?

For example, let's use a scenario where by I have uploaded from desktop PC and then unzipped my turnfile onto laptop PC. Clearly I actually only see the gameplan settings from the last laptop uploaded turn, even if it was several turns ago.

What changes do I need to make to that gameplan on the laptop for everything to be uploaded?

1) Is it one change to something like a double coverage setting will affect everything and all settings from the laptop will be uploaded?

2) Is it that only the individual setting is uploaded?

3) Is it that only double coverage settings are uploaded and not gameplan changes?

4) Do I have to change every setting to get it uploaded?

5) Or is it a bit of an unknown?

My reason for asking is that I'm at the stage where half the time I have no idea what gameplan my teams appear to be running, or what changes I need to make, and I'm wandering what actual gameplan is being run by the leagues GM machine for my turn?

I've been given advice to upload the gameplans to a central point and always load them on each machine, which I guess would help, but it did make me think about what changes are actually uplaoded.

Sorry for the long post, but I find it all a bit weird and yes before we all say it, it appears to be a damned site easier to do it all on one PC and never touch a second PC.

It's an annoying pain in the ass and I don't like any of the solutions to it. This game is practically hostile to the people who use it most rigorously - forcing us to use batch startup files, engineer this sort of setup to maintain gameplans, and so on.

I am not the one to answer your technical questions, but I think the full information about your gameplan is embedded in one of the frfoot.*** files that the game creates when you save (SP) or export (MP). Can't recall which, though, sorry. I believe that if you start with the "wrong" gameplan on CPU2 and make one change, what gets uploaded and sent in is that entire wrong gameplan, with just the tweaks you made (to double coverage or whatnot) -- in other words, this is not a workable shortcut to this problem.

As for what to do here...I think the simplest is just to start off with a workable base offense and defense for that team at the start of the season, save the files for the gameplan, and load it on both computers you plan to use at the beginning of the season. It's not perfect, but for me it at least serves as a safety net for the times when I can't get to the "correct" computer for that particular league.

What if after you export your file you save the offensive and defensive game plans to a USB and load them on the other machine?

Having your actual gameplan files certainly resolves this, as well. I use a Netvibes widget through box.net to house a handful of files, including a few basic FOF gameplans for this purpose... but I find that it's usually more trouble than it's worth to me. But if you're willing, toting around a thumbdrive or having some online file storage would certainly do the trick, too.

I use two different computers and had the same issues stated above.

My solution was to save the gameplan and then send an email to myself with the gameplan attached. When I got to the other computer, I just opened the email and loaded the gameplan. Kept me from having to carry around a thumbdrive.
