View Full Version : A Small Thing That Annoys Me

It kind of bugs me that the yardage for passing distances in the attribute screens doesnt match up with gameplanning.
For example, a QB can be rated 100 at medium passes, which the attribute screen says is 11-20 yards. so you go to bump those passes up in the Miscellaneous Offensive Settings page, and, wait, what?
Those 11-20 yard passes are broken up into 3 different groups: 9-12, 13-18, 19-26. Thats fine, but what if your QB is way weaker at short and long passes?
Similarly, long passes (21-30) are split up into 19-26 and 27-39, so if your qb sucks at deep balls, well, good luck with that.
I know its a small thing, but its just always been a bit odd to me, had to get it off my chest.

I never understood that, but drew the conclusion a long time ago that it was one of those things that was setup for us to figure out how to game plan around the unknown.

I suppose one explanation for that is this:
Quarterbacks have physical aspects of their arm strength, mechanics, approach, etc, that would lead them to make certain kinds of throws (Screen, Short, Middle, Long) better or worse than others.
From the gameplan standpoint though, there are more divisions in terms of length of the pass play you want to go for. For example, a 11-18 yard situation is notably different than an 18-25 yard situation. That can't really be dictated by your QB's ability, which seems to be too simple anyway, so I view this as something where there's some "rough" gameplanning tweaks to work with, but nothing so one dimensional as "QB is bad at long passes, good at medium passes, so set medium passes to 50% and long to 0%."

I've always assumed it was intentionally designed to keep us from being able to game plan to the *exact* pass distances that our QB is best at.

eouldnt it aslo be affected by your pass catchers too? ive tried to get the ball to my rb for years and ive been told shorter pass distances USUALLY go to rb/te and longer ones to wr's
but if your wr is "slow" would he catch more short balls? so say 10 bp but still a decent 70~ rr?

I like that. Maybe we can have 2 co-winners? That girl presenter was awfully nice.
