I really hope when a new version of FOF comes out it has the following:

-Coach mode<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
-Career mode
-Financial model
-Internet play
-Some type of graphical representation (FBPro 98 style(small men), XOR NFL Challenge style (X’s and O’s moving) or Action PC videochalkboard style(X’s and O’s moving)

Those would be the WONDERFUL to have!

It already has the first four, and is only missing the last.

I think having a simulation game with the depth of fof and the graphics of a regular football game would be cool. The only problem though is that I think the two fan bases are too far apart in order to warrant it. The simulation fans in general probably wouldn't waste time watching the game play out anyway. And the fans of the graphics want to actually play the game they don't want to sit there and watch it while only calling plays or making the gameplan or putting the rosters together.

Personally I think any new version of FOF needs to bring back expansion and support multiple league sizes.

I have a couple of things I would like to see in the game:

1. I would like to see the ability to have roster bonuses in addition to signing bonuses. Also, I would like to see guaranteed money. The main temptation in the NFL is now guaranteed money. This would give the general manager flexibility in signing players to contracts with limited cap space in year 1 of a contract, while guaranteeing money in future years. Roster bonus money is all counted in the year of that bonus. This allows teams to use up the remaining cap of a year, just like in the NFL now. Teams often turn next years salary into a roster bonus this year minus the league minimum. The players get their money now, and are happy to do it.

2. The restricted and franchise players. These players should be allowed to be poached by other teams. Other teams should have the ability to make an offer to these players in return for compensation of draft choices by the team that poaches them. The original team should have the ability to match these offers. Mike Williams of the Steelers, and Vincent Jackson of the Chargers were recently victims of the restricted tenders. Their teams gave them an offer that gave them compensation if another team signs them. How great would it be, to force a competitor to match an offer that would be tough to fit in their cap, but easily fit yours, and only give up a draft pick in return. Sometimes it would be a high pick, but some are only an original draft pick designation. This is not often used in the NFL today even though they could, but my opinion is that is because of the collusion of the owners, and a wink, wink, agreement to not poach each others players.

3. Keep a statistic for total money earned. Have a career earnings list that breaks it down by position, year drafted, salary/year, etc. It would be great to see the breakdown of where the money is spent, and on what position.

I would love to get some feedback. Any other ideas?

It'll be tough to get some of these features in a card game. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong Ben, but isn't that at least *assigned* a player ID, per the sole files?

Correct me if I'm wrong Ben, but isn't that at least *assigned* a player ID, per the sole files?I'm virtually certain that's not the case. No one who has hacked Solevision has mentioned it, and just plain ol' common sense about how penalties get generated in FOF tells us otherwise. It seems fairly obvious that every play has a penalty dice roll that's influenced mainly by the coach discipline rating and how long he has been on the team. There MAY be other factors such as the combined intelligence ratings of all the players on the field at the time, but there's no reason to believe that the calculation is granular enough to assign blame for the penalty to an individual player.

Thanks, Some one is costing me some good drives and allowing my opponents some better ones.

Did you kow the link to your nerf draft file is giving a 404 error?

Jim Gindin, the developer of FOF, recently announced that he had been working on a new football card game:

Front Office Football: The Card Game by Jim Gindin (Solecismic Software) — Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1122756216/front-office-football-the-card-game)

If your interest is playing a computer football game, give this a look -- but understand that it's a completely separate project. The comments above were made, I think, sarcastically -- some people are disappointed that Jim has decided to work on something other than a new version of the computer football game that we love.

In the old days, before PC's and the technological advancements we have been party to over the last couple of decades some of us played board games. We used to actually roll dice and determine the results based upon a review of data provided within the box as part of the package. Sometimes it actually meant we had to sit down with someone else across the table, yes in the same room, and have a conversation while playing the game. I am old but if I recall properly we actually enjoyed it!

:D Please note the perception of being a smartass was completely intentional and not meant to harm neither human or animal in it's presentation.
