View Full Version : FOF7 and Player Ratings/Category Accuracy?

When (and if) patches are released for the game, do they ever include changes to the player ratings and what categories players are rated? Is it even worth discussing some of them with hopes they change or just roll with them "as is"?
I am not talking about debating whether a player is a 10 or 20 in a certain category, but more so that some players weren't even rated in a category for roles they actually play in real life. For example, Antonio Brown of the Steelers is the main punt returner and has been for awhile. But in the game, he is not rated at all in the punt returner category so can't really use him in that role. Likewise, Plaxico Burress is rated as a punt returner and usually the AI let's him return kicks. I looked up a couple of places for Plaxico's career stats and neither had him ever returning a kick. There are a number of other situations like this too, but these are just examples.
Not a huge deal and I can certainly run with things as is, I was just curious if this was an aspect that ever changed as patches were released.

I think it's very unlikely we'll see real changes to this sort of thing. The game's X-factor (a setting you can change to minimize this sort of randomness) is a part of this, but all told this really isn't designed to be a "simulate the real NFL faithfully" game. We all realize that has a certain appeal, but that's really not what this game is about.
Not a definitive response, but I'm trying to help set expectations accordingly. With every part release, we (this forum/community) has seen a big wave of this sort of comments -- and a remedy has never been a priority to the (one man show) developer.
As a long time FOF player, here's what I think: If your goal is to simulate the career of the Steelers' wide receivers, this game is pretty passable but not great. If your goal is to simulate the career of the Steelers' GM and coaching staff -- then this is the best thing going.

Understood...just wanted to check if worth mentioning and I agree the long term appeal is not based on the players you start with at the beginning of the career since in a few years they will all be gone anyways.
My goal is definitely to manage the Steeler's franchise (and boy do they need it recently) so not a huge deal for me.

Exactly! That is a huge appeal of the game for me, can I possibly do better, which I doubt:) Based on the current status of the Steelers, looks like I am in for a few rough years to get started!
FWIW, there are normally a few like minded individuals that put together updated ratings files to start NFL-like careers with.
No guarantees that somebody will create one now. Though you could dive in an make one yourself.

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it. I am not really good with figuring out the stats, plus since these players will only be around for the first part of the career, not a huge deal for me. But if someone does make something, I'll certainly check it out.

grim: your greatest hope is people making their own player files, most likely.
