Hi,

Is there any practical difference between the two versions available? Does it make a difference which version you have if you want to play in the multi-player leagues?

Can I play both versions if I'm offline, or do I have to online to use the stem version?

Thanks,

Adrian

AdrianIf you're playing SP, you might prefer the Steam version because Steam achievements are available. (And they do add to the experience.) Both can be used for MP with no real difference. Both can be played offline.

In previous versions of FOF, Viatech had problems if you were moving from 1 PC to another, especially in the case of a crash where you can't reset your license. You would need to try to remember which email address you used to purchase the game and then contact them to reset your license. Viatech was always really great about it, and they were relatively fast, but steam eliminates the need for it all together. You buy the game and it is tied to your account (so long as steam stays in business).

If you're running on a mac like me, it's less of a hassle getting the Viatech one working. Steam works too though.

Steam is a lot more friendly towards re-downloading to multiple computers or installs. Viatech tech support is awfully slow. Took 3 emails through their website as well as directly through email and about a week and half for them to re-do my license. This was a week ago.

Viatech works OK for me, but I would have to recommend Steam. It's a solid platform and on Steam, FOF can go on sale as it did recently.

I can't even be sure Viatech still works. I was unable to unlicense it when it came time to upgrade, and never received help from their support. A quick look through of these forums shows that is par for the course for them.

One complaint I've seen Steam users express is that they can't open multiple copies of the game at once. This is probably not a big deal though.

So far, that's the ONLY complaint I have, but I'm ok with keeping just one copy of the game open, and it's probably better that I only have 1 copy open at once anyway.

Actually there is an easy work around to have two copies open at once. From the Steam Client select Steam->Go Offline. Once you are off line one one PC you can start FOF (or any Steam game) in offline mode. Of course this limits multiplayer.

Thanks for all the answers, very helpful; one final question then - if I was on Steam, could I still play in one of the MP games if the Commissioner was running on a Viatech version?

Very interested in getting the game and playing some solo seasons (so I can play just as and when I feel like it) but also joining MP as that's more fun.

Cheers,

Ade

AdeYes. I have and use both versions for MP. They're interchangeable in that regard.

Viatech is a shit company with horrible tech support so Steam is a no brainer.

Would go with Viatech only if you're thinking of a MacBook soon.

If you purchase the steam version, do you still have the ability to edit and customize the rosters like we were able to do in the excel file?
