It's after season's end. Divisional round about to play.
Why is a 3-year contract of $10.52M bonus reported to add $4.17M to current cap costs? I would expect it to be $3.51M because that's the pro-rated bonus.
The player's current bonus is 0, his current salary is $1.98M.
The new salaries are $7.9M, $9.9M, $10.89M, but these aren't supposed to matter. Even if they did, I'm not sure how the math works out. The difference between $3.51 and $4.17 is $0.66M.
The offer didn't go through last stage because of cap room, but the game reports me to have $3.72M in cap space.

"Max For New Player" != "Room Under Cap"
When you're doing renegs, it displays the former, but uses the latter. The $0.66M is the difference between the two.

Max for new player is nominally $5.03M.
In this case the warning message on reneg "displays" $3.72M". I know there are some irregularities between that and what it uses, but had thought what it uses in this case must be >= $3.72M.
In either case, the contract offer as specified *should* only add $3.51M to the cap cost this year, but is both being reported as higher, and also actually resulting in an offer withdrawn. That's what has me confused still, and bear with me if I've misunderstood something here.
(To clarify, the offer doesn't go through, and the warning message says 'This will add 4.17M, but you only have 3.72M available.')

Oh, and do you have 51+ players?

Oh..duh. I see now. It's CyFL. I'll bet it has something to do with trying to re-order the salaries with all of the renegs you did last stage and thus the top 51 have different numbers. Some are the old salaries, and some are new, and I'll bet they're all messed up. We know there's a bug in that general setup, so who knows what else it might be affecting. There's probably no way to calculate what's going on once you've done postseason renegs.

(This is why I typically save only one reneg for postseason.)

Ah, I see. I saved them all in case someone was going to get a 50-week ACL tear in week 1 (which ... happened ...) with the idea that I'd just do the one big-ticket signing last. It's only a few hundred thousand in bonus per year that I apparently have to reduce, so I guess it shouldn't be too much trouble if I'm OK bumping up salary a bit.
