It's time!
The last two expansions for EU4 have given me the absolute requirement to do something I want to do. Are you ready? Are you not entertained?

Well it’s time!
If you have been following the dynasties I‘ve been wanting to do for a while, discussions that begin normally before a dynasty starts and I’m uncertain which direction to hew.
I really feel for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It’s arguably the most destabilized country in the world. Due to the sheer richness and wealth of the nation, it continues to be taken advantage of by adjacent nations that are stable, such as Uganda and Rwanda. Meanwhile, the nation is dealing with the instability of civil unrest, and multination companies who needs its valuable minerals and wealth for their cell phones and jewelry get their materials from local tribes, gunthugs, and nearby nations. Rape is used en masse to keep down entire villages by raping the women in front of the men of the village. It’s not great.
Why? What happened to Congo?
During the Cold War, we (the USA) cared, more about allies in the fight against Communism and the Soviet Union that we did about human rights and such. One of our strongest allies was the cruel dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, one of the nastiest people to ruthlessly rule an African nation during the Cold War. But we kept him in power for decades because he was our big ally against the Soviets.
Is that is though? Nope!
During the Race for Africa in the late 1800s, the leader of Belgium, King Leopold II, pushed for a Belgian colony in the division. The boundaries were drawn up an an artificial aspect. And then he uses his time there to viciously destroy and denude the area, from everything from rubber to diamonds. The vile administration by King Leopold II caused more than 50% of the population of the Congo to be slain after around 20 years of his fiefdom, and led to Heart of Darkness being written about it. While all of Africa was deeply injured by this era of colonialism and exploitation, Congo was hurt worse by far.
After reading the history book, King Leopold’s Ghost, that investigates this era deeply, I wanted to play as Congo in this area in Victoria II and oust the Belgians out and to end their unholy reign. But Victoria II did not really do justice in defining and describing the Congolese wealth and economy.
So I wanted to pull back for an EU dynasty instead. Now, Congo has a very interesting history.

The Kingdom of Kongo began in the late 1300s. It was growing into a minor by real power, with subjects, vassals, and expansions. And then in 1483, a Portuguese explorer made contract with the local power. He opened up diplomatic relations with Kongo, and in 1485, Kongolese Nobles visited the court of Portuesge Emperor Joao II and were greeted as allies. Some of the nobles converted to Christianity, and returned, and newly rechristened King Joao I returned home and began to institute changes. However, he would return to his native beliefs shortly later. Despite this, the Portuguese were allowed to stabling a Roman Catholic Church of Congo. The son of King Joao I was converted and baptized in 1491, Alfonso, and had an authentic, genuine faith. He would take over in 1506 when his father passes away, and he ordains that the Kingdom of Kongo will become Catholic.
The Kongo Kingdom is a major force in the Church, as the first Roman Catholic nation in Africa. It was not created by force, or by colonial conquest, but instead by Portugal treating the Kingdom as allies. There were numerous challenges for the nation, and many tribes and small nations inland of them. Warring against them to bring them under Kongolese rule was important. In fact, both King Alfonso and a later King would be declared the Defender of the Faith by the Pope. These people were fully ensconced in Catholic tradition and history.
And yet, the wars would not be won long term. There were too many tribes, and too many shifting loyalties. They didn’t want to be brought under the yoke of Kongo. So they resisted. And Portugal was dealing with more important things than to help their ally fight these wars.
In economy, the Kongo was the largest source of slaves for the Portuguese. They would sell people they took in their wars off. They were captives of their campaigns. They believed that slavery should be run under their rules, of war captives, not of locals, and should be legally acquired. When Kongo discovered Portuguese illegal slave shipments, they put a stop to it with an entreaty to the Portuguese King, Joao III.
Civil strife, a failure to bring in their vassal Ndongo, and more would keep Congo from seeing their potential reached. After 100 years or so, Portugal killed the king, and installed a son that was more pliable to their interests. The nation revolted, and he was killed by his brother 2 years later, and relations between the states were eliminated for a time. This would lead to the Portuguese-Kongo War of 1622, as Portugal invaded and began a ruthless campaign to take over the nation. But Kongo was not falling. While they had some early successes, Kongo ultimately pushed back and won the war. Then Kongo asked to ally with the Dutch, and they launched an attack on Portuguese territory in Africa. The war was called off before it began because the king died, and his son was more willing to forgive the Portugal Attack, as they had already won.
Then in 1641 the Dutch take the nearby Portugal colonies and renewed their alliance with Kongo. Unlike Portugal, the Dutch actually sent troops to help Kongo keep order and to press their concerns eastward. And they received the lion’s share of the wealthy slave trade as well. 1647 sees another war with Portugal and Kongo arise. Kongo defeats Portugal early on in the battle of Kombi where 8000 mixed troops of Kongo and her allies defeated almost 30000 Portugal troops and their allies. Portugal is ousted from their remaining inland forts. However, while Portugal could not take out Kongo, they did eventually oust the Dutch from their holdings. A cold war ensues.
In 1665 they both invade Mbwila, a mutual vassal of both, in order to divide it. Using that as a proxy war. Portugal wins their first battle against Kongo in decades (since the early battles of the 1622 war) and slay the King at that battle. This sends the Kongo nation into a major civil war which would mire the nation for around 40 years until 1706. After, Kongo was weakened, and the rest of Europe has passed them by technologically while they took steps back. They are a minor power in much of the early to mid 1700s. Europeans, mostly Portugal, would destabilize or fund people to continue to keep Kongo unsteady. They knew who Kongo was. And the abolition of the slave trade hurt the economy even more. So it was easy to absorb by Portugal and Belgium into their fiefdoms.
And that’s where it all started.

But there was a time when Kongo was a major player in Africa, the Defender of the Faith, the bright and shining star of Africa, and was able to fend off European attacks. It won wars against Portugal. It would have the Netherlands, Spain, or Portugal as it’s ally. It played European powers off against each other. The Kingdom of Kongo was a factor.
So what if that bright hope continued? What if, in the early days of Alfonso I, the realm’s desire to expand east was fully realized? What if the nearby areas were brought under Kongo control and the Catholic Church? How would this change and shape African history? What would a hegemonic Kongo look like? How would it have acted? It was Catholic in attitude too. Would it have followed those with colonies? Crusades against pagans in the continent? What would have happened?
And thus that is the crux of this dynasty.
Welcome to June 2, 1506. The day King Alfonso I Takes over the Kingdom of Kongo.
We have a few major changes today. He announces we are officially becoming Catholic, and Portugal has declared us a Protectorate

Alright, so let’s take a look at the good and the bad.
Good –
Let’s do this in order from most good to least:
- We are the largest nation in the area with 8 provinces. This should let us piecemeal other nations to the east.
- We have some provinces that have low development but a good trade good, and others with decent development but lesser goods.
- We have 6000 troops, which is the largest army we can see
- We have two vassals that help us to build up
- Our capital province, Mpemba, is an inland center of trade
Bad –
From worst to easiest
- We are starting in 1506, when European nations and others have already had a chance to explore and expand. That leaves us behind the eight ball, as opposed to the 1444 start. It’s like taking Inca just after Spain lands in Hispaniola. Portugal is already in Eastern Africa in Sofala.
- We have low tech issues, and need to push our institutions
- Many of our neighbors are allies, and each of Kuba, Yaka, and Kasanje have 5000 troops.
- None of our provinces are Catholic, so we have both rebelling issues and a lowered amount of production and taxes
- We are not in a good place to use and abuse our trading strengths
- 8 of our provinces are tropical. 2 are jungle, and hard to do anything with.

I order a diplomat to Portugal to improve relations
Our provinces:
Mpemba – Capital, inland of Soyo and Mbamba, west of Mbata, north of Mbwila, south of Mpangu. Inland Center of Trade, 10 development, grasslands, tropical, iron mines, 0.45 made here by the Kongolese Fetishists. 3.5% unrest.
All have 3.5% unrest
Let’s head west to the coast:
Soyo – 11 development, grasslands, coastal, tropical, 0.23 gold from the slave trade, fetishist and Kongolese, north of Mbamba , south of Ngoyo, west of the capital of Mpemba. 37% autonomy
Mbamba – Coastal, slaves, savannah, tropical 5 dev, 0.14 gold, fetishist and Kongolese, owned by Nobility Estate, 25% autonomy, north of the unclaimed territory of Luanda, west of Mbwila and the capital, south of Soyo
Ngoyo – Tropical jungle, ivory traded here by the fetishists and Kongolese, 7 dev, 0.20 made, 37% auto, west of Mpangu, south of ally in Loango and one province nation Tyo.
West!
Mpangu – North of capital, east of Ngoyo, south of Tyo, and west of Songo, and north of Mbata as well. Copper mines here make 0.10 with 6 dev, 60% autonomy, fetishist and Kongolese, tropical
Songo – In the northeastern corner of our territory, east of Tyo, south of terra incognita, next to both nations in Kuba and Yaka, and north of Mbata and east of Mpangu. Jungle and tropical, with just 3 development, spices, and 0.10 made, with 10% autonomy, and both Kongolese and fetish folks.
Mbata – grasslands, tropical, 25% auto, grain, 5 dev, 0.1 4made, from fetish and Kongolese. Owned by nobility estates. West of the nation of Yaka’s province of Yaka, and north of our vassal in Ndongo. East if the capital in Mpemba, and north of us in Mbwila.
Mbwila - north of both Ndongo holdings. South of everything we have in three provinces. The people here are not Kongolese but instead Mbundu. And Fetishist as well. 20% autonomy. Highlands, tropical, 5 dev, and grain, must 0.13 monthly for us.

Great Nations in Order from #1 through #8.
Ming Dynasty
France
Ottoman Empire
Russia
Castile
Austria
Poland
Aragon
No England, No Portugal.
Long Term Goals –
1). Make us a Catholic nation completely and remove the Fetishists from us
2). Get rid of this minor Trade Idea for something more fruitful
3). Declare war on, and begin to absorb, the nearby powers.
4). Expand fast in order to build a strong economy and military in order to keep Europe off.
5). Create a Kongo Hegemony
It’s very possible to start to build, only to find nations like Portugal, England, Castile, Aragon, France, and more all expanding near us. And frankly, what could I really do about it right now?
I have 6k troops and 5/5/5 tech vs, say, Castile at 7/7/7 with 26000 troops or Portugal’s 20k. I’m not anything.
I order 1000 infantry made in Mpangu and my army to move to it. My goal is to take out the one province nation of Tyo soon. I make my King a general. We need the forces for a few reasons, and one is that my 5k force verses my vassals 3k each looks bad, so it will help increase our control.
I choose a mission – improve Papal relations. I send a diplomat to the Papal States to improve relations.
I send back Trade Ideas. You might think I grab something like expansion or question an to get colonists. Nope. Religious.
I send a Missionary to our capital
I drop our army maintenance

4 October, 1506 – We enter into a Royal Marriage with Portugal.
20 Oct – Portugal declares war against Tapuia.
1 Nov – I order a diplomat to improve relations with Castile.
23 Nov – I get our first event – A Bountiful Harvest. I gain some gold. I use it to buy another 1k infantry.
1 Dec – Portugal is now a great power at #8. It replaced Aragon
Tyo is now allied with Kuba, and Kuba, but not Tyo, is allied with Lunda and Kikondja.
Loango is getting disloyal. They have a 53% liberty desire
I send a diplomat over for them as well
6 February, 1507 – More alliance are coming down the pike here locally
7 Oct – Our next event arrives – United in Prayer
When he meets with other Catholic rulers in person, Alfonso I asks them to pray together for common goals. It creates stronger bonds, and is heading soon to Castile. It’s not the popular way to do it, and we can choose more diplomatic paths. So do I?
Souls not Minds must unite - 75% for Castile to have their opinion raised +40
Practice Secular Diplomacy – Bonus Dip Power
If the first one were guaranteed, I’d rock it. Getting that bonus is nice. But it’s not. So I go with the DIP power instead

1 Jan, 1508 – According to reports, this year something good is about to happen
I change my national focus to ADM. This moves us to 10, 5, 6 growth monthly
11 May – We get a Unity of Faith event and our stability rises one
10 June – We have Tyrannical Nobles in Mbamba. I choose to chastise them and lose some of their loyalty. It dropped to 35.
1 July – Rebels rise up in Kuba, next to us
18 Sept – 7000 rebels capture Nunu, in Kuba
9 Oct – Kuba lost a war against the rebels.
1 Nov – It’s time!
I have 409 Admin power. That’s enough for…our first idea.
So why Did I grab the Religious Idea Group, over many good options?
The First Religious Idea is
Deus Vult –
Permanent Casus Belli against neighboring heathens and heretics!
Nov 3 – I declare war against Tyo!
DEUS VULT!!!
Abe Sargent
10-19-2016, 12:26 PM
War #1 –
I order my 8000 troops into Tyo’s lonely province of Anziku to hit their 4000 strong. Remember, their ally is Kuba, who just lost a battle with rebels, and is running around losing.
Kuba joins the war. Our vassals do as well.
12 Nov – We arrive and begin to battle the local troops
24 Nov – Defeated
Our general and leader gained the BattleField Medic Trait, and now has +33% reinforce speed
25 February, 1509 – We convert our capital! I send missionaries to Soyo next
12 May – After fleeing, the Kuban army of 7000 arrives in Songo and head sback to deal with rebels more. I think they are willing to concede Tyo’s loss to us
16 Aug – We take Anziku.
Now I have a couple of options.
1). Finish the war now, and take Anziku.
2). Push and see if we can’t hurt Kuba too.
We’re here, why not push?
Abe Sargent
10-19-2016, 05:09 PM
13 Sept – Our forces arrive in Nunu, currently held by rebels, and we begin a siege
25 Sept -Ally forces arrive with us as well
2 Oct – Portugal declare war on Potiguara
13 Oct – We capture Nunu
I order our forces to their capital at Nunu proper
1 Nov - Siege begins
19 Nov – They are moving their main army to Nunu to hit the 6k forces there from our vassals. I leave behind a siege unit and order the remaining 5000 of our forces to assist
24 Dec – After a long campaign, we win in Nunu
1 Jan, 1510 – I maxed relations with Castile
5 Jan – We rout their army and it’s gone in the province of Munene
8 Feb – We take Munene
I start rejecting stupid and simple peace offers. I am pushing
5 May – I spend some MIL power ot reduce a potential uprising in my nation
29 August – Kuba proper falls.
I have a 100% war score, captured all Kuka and Tyo holdings, and defeated all of their armies.
Let’s go shopping
Which provinces are worth the most?
Actually, I can take out both players, so let’s do that now. I also take a bunch of coin as well.
We gain 48 gold, we get a little inflation. We get 0 aggressive expansions with our CB. We gain prestige, and more.
I annex:
All are 20.5% unrest and 50% autonomy
Tyo’s province of Anziku – Jungle, tropical, copper, 6 development, Kongolese and Fetishist, 20.5% unrest, and 50% autonomy, 0.04 made here. South of wasteland, west of Songo, east of our Loango assal, and north of both Ngoyo and Mpangu holdings.
Nunu – 4 development , 0.01 gold, Kuba culture, and Fetishist faith. Tropical wood, jungle and tropical. East of Songo, and south of the wasteland as well. North of both holdings of Yaka, and west of both Kuba and Munene
Kuba – East of Nunu, north of Munenne, south of the wasteland, and west of a the two province Kalundwe nation, this is the former capital of Kuba. 18.5% unrest, fetish, Kuban culture, 0.00 made here, 75% autonomy and 6 dev. Tropical woods.
Munene – Also tropical jungle, with spices, 0.00 here, 18.5 and 75% as well, Kuba and fetishist. 6 dev. South of Kuba, southeast of Nunu, and next to three nations and tribes in the area -west of Yaka, north of Lunda, and west of Kalundwe.
I order cores to be made in all four places
My reasons for taking these provinces and striking fast is simple. I want to build my nation while ebbing my infamy from taking out two neighbors in one war.
We lost 8690 casualties to their 13225. Our numbers include our allies, we only lost around 4k ourselves.
I half my naval maintenance
I order a church built in our capital city of Mpemba
Nice to see you back at it. Reading along.
Abe Sargent
10-19-2016, 10:46 PM
30 July, 1511 – Soyo converts. Next target is Ngoyo

27 Nov – Another Bountiful Harvest arrives
2 Dec – Portugal annexes Potiguara.
6 Mar, 1513 – We have had no institutions begin to grow, but next door our vassal in Loango has. So I begin to process to annex them. It should take roughly two years

I order another 1000 troops to assemble
4 Oct – Rebellion in Kuba – 11000 soldiers rebel. I have troops here already to fight back.
19 Oct – We win but lost 40% of our army. I spend some MIL to cut other rebellions I was expecting to fight
31 Oct – WHOA!
I get a major event:
Into the Unknown
The uncharted territory next to and beyond the jungles may seem threatening to others, but to our tribe who has lived here for a long time, we understand the area. A large group of hunters ask King Alfonso I for permission to explore and settle the whatever place they may discover. They are capable and can get a lot done.
These are our options:
1) Go and claim what you find for Kongo! -3000 manpower, we get 300 settlers in the unclaimed province of Luanda, and it gets +25% settler increase from Used to Tropical event
2) They are needed here. Gain a bunch of Admin power
Duh!
Face the glory for Kongo!
Luanda is now a colony. And we are spending some serious cash on them as well.

Mayumba – North, west, and up the coast from Loango, south of unclaimed Gabo, and west of the wasteland, Kongolese and Fetishist, 60% auto, 0.11 gold, 6 dev, coastal, jungle, ivory, tropical. Both are nice
We also got 3 ships and 3000 more troops including 1000 cavalry in that list.

Let me take a map. Here just 9 years in.
https://s12.postimg.org/5l3e458yl/Kongo_1515.png
I’m zooming in close to give you detailed names and such of everything. You can see the two places we just took from Loango, as well as all the way to Kuba, where our army sits.
Our vassal, Ndongo, is the purple to our south. You can see enemy states in multiple places to our west, and the colony of Luanda is on the coast, south of Mbamba and west of Ndongo.
You can also see cash, manpower, +2 stability, prestige, etc. (We are losing cash with Missionary and colony)
Abe Sargent
10-21-2016, 09:02 PM
1 Aug, Mpangu converts! I keep back from sending more right now to keep sustaining my colony
Nah, let’s slash army by 50% instead and I send in Missionary to Mbata

I set Lunda as a rival
1 July – Anziku converts. Next is Songo
5 Aug – Portugal declares war to conquer Sofala. This is on the far side of east Africa.
9 Sept – I get an event:
Idolatry or Reverence:
Our efforts to bring salvation to the heathens in Mbata have borne some fruit, but I is strange. They accept Christ, but the faith has intermingled with the old ways. Angels and spirits, the true Lord and the old Lord of the Sky, the Blessed Virgin and the Earth Goddess, do these people really believe what they hera or simply call old idols by new names? The local Missionary has come to us for advice:
1) Their faith is pure, and we would be fools to reject it – Kongo gets Animist Syncretism for 20 years, with +1% Missionary strength, +1 tolerance of Heatherd, -1.5 Tolerance of True Faith
2) This is worse that heresy and must be rooted out – For ten years, gets dogmatic preacher and Mbata gets -5% missionary strength
Lets embrace it. Anything to increase our conversion speed right now
6 Dec – Boost stability to 3

1 Feb – We lose Lunda as a rival, and there are no good ones
20 March – Munene converts – next is Mbwila
1 June – We can, if we want, get the next Religious Idea. It would give us Church Attendance Duty. -25% stability cost. And we would unlock Kongolese Tax Exchange and +10% taxes nationally. That’s not worth it yet, I’ll hold off
Loanga has embraced Feudalism as well. Mayumba is Colonialism as well. I’ve been saving cash for the commitment to embracing an institution. Still have slashed military and navy.

I use this blood cash to embrace Feudalism.
Feudalism – Leaders without Upkeep +1, and our tech tax drops from 100% more to 50% more
Now the good news is that I now have a 100% war score and captured all provinces of both Kasanje and Yaka.
Full annexation, bunch of gold
I annex all 5 provinces and both nations are off the board.
We lost 10k troops to their 4k

And this one is the big one…
Because I get a new Idea Group
Here is what I am ogling…
Exploration Ideas –
Requires DIP to advance, 1st slot gives me Colonists to send out and add to Kongo’s might! Then we can get Quest for the New World and more, and discover Africa elsewhere.
Now what I’d really like is Expansion, to get Colonist first, and Trader second,, and such., But that’s not a need, and it requires Admin to use, which conflicts with my Religious idea group.
So Exploration it is!
And guess who has some DIP power sitting around….
I now have a colonist, and the +10% taxes from the Tax Exchange.
I send our colonist to…Luanda? Nah, it’s almost concluded.
Welcome to the Next Era of this Dynasty…

Colonial Kongo
A fully Catholic state would likely take advantage of the Catholic way of colonizing and exploration. There are a few options.
Natives here in Africa are nasty, so we choose a live and let live policy, to reduce considerably uprising chances.
Options –
Benguela – south and down coast of Luanda, massive amount of development already here, 5000 pretty aggressive natives
Gabon – North of Mayumba, jungle, tropical, 7000 nasty natives. Lower Dev.
Benguela is the obvious choice

1 Sept – Yaka is a core

We lost 4700 soldiers combined to their 13k. We lost 4058 to attrition.
Chokwe – Fetishist, savannah, tropical, ivory, has a marketplace, Chokwe culture, Fetishist religion, 11.8% unrest, 75% autonomy, and 0.01 made here., They have 4 development, north of the wasteland, west of Ishidi, south of Lwena, and east of Kasanje.

The Kongo trade node has 69 trade power, and we are getting 4 gold from it monthly.
Our King:
Diogo I Lukeni, 33, 5/3/3, with Careful and Lawgiver – a great and young ruler
His heir is 515,
Queen – Juana von Habsburg, 5/2/4
Our government, the Tribal Monarchy, isn’t great right now. -10% Stability cost? Who cares? +20% income from vassals? Don’t have any.
So I have finished my first goal, to get this stuff Catholic, and I have mostly finished my second – quick expansion east, hard, no holds barred, to get ourselves to a place where we can potentially fend off European powers
Next is to finish off Kazembe, with a long term goal of grabbing and puling in the Lake Victoria powers, while facing off against European colonization efforts

I’m ready for a new war I think…
I have 10k troops in Kusu, and another 10 next door in Luba. I want to hit Lake Victoria folks. Now, Kusu is next to Lega, an unclaimed province. Beyond that is Burundi’s two holdings of Nkoma and Bafuriu. The only ally of Burundi is Buganda, a one province minor around Lake Victoria, and past the 6 province state of Buha. But they are on the far side of the unclaimed Lega. Meh, I should wait on Leg first.

Queen Juana is a woman with a heart of gold. Always does her best to help her husband, treats people with unparalleled kindness. After seeing the suffering of the people of Soyo, she has drafted a plan t help the most destitute subjects, but she needs funds to make it happen.
I choose to invest 90 gold into her plan. We get the event Consort of the People, with -1 unrest, until King Diogo passes
13 Aug – Swellenham is now a full province:
Swellenham – Coastal South Africa, next to Cape, where Spain is, and Khosian and Fetishist. Fishing, 6 development, steppes. East is unsettled Graaff-Reinet, and inland are wealthy places. I order a Missionary over, and then send colonists to Graaff-Reinet

https://s9.postimg.org/chb28za2n/Kongo_1564.png
The three places we just took are the bottom right corner, where our military is.
I hand Upemba to the clergy
Post war we slide past Portugal to #7

16 July – I declare Holy War on Buha!
Abe Sargent
10-23-2016, 12:28 PM
War 7
This war has two other local minors joining Buha. I order 12k forces from the unclaimed Rukwa to their capital of Ruguru, and 11k from Lega to Bafuriru, north of Lake Tanganyika
They retreat an army of 9k in front of my waves
1 Sept – We take Bafuriu
4 Oct – Nduga falls to us
17 Nov _ Karagwe follows
4 Dec – Their capital of Ruguru falls to us
26 Dec - Buzinga Falls
15 Jan, 1567 – Nkoma as well
25 Feb – The last two fall and we have every province in Buha
I don’t have enough of a war score to annex their whole nation yet, I have to smash their allies
12 March – Accommodation with natives in Lega reached. They will be nicer
4 June – I get a cool event – Religious Influences in Graaff-Reinet. I choose to convert them all, they gain more ferociousness but are now Catholic. It was the lowest level of peaceful, so we should be fine moving forward
18 June – We capture a province in Tumbuka
16 July – We defeat the Tumbukan army,

Unless otherwise noted, all of these provinces have Rwandan culture, and Fetishist faith and are tropical and have 75% autonomy
Bafuriru – North of Lega, north of the Lake, and south of Lake Kivu, hills, grain, 23.7% unrest, 7 development. I order a core. South is Nkoma, on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika.
Nkoma – I order a core here for the iron mines, 23.7% unrest, 0.06 made, hills, 9 development, church here, on the shores, south along the shore is Ruguru
Ruguru – Hills, 6 dev, core ordered, salt is the trade of choice here, 18.7% unrest, 0.01 made. Marketplace is here. South is the unclaimed Lake Coastal holding of Rukwa, and inland of the giant lake is…
Buyogoma – Savannah, 18.7% unrest, inland, 5 dev, 0.01 made, grain farmers. Core ordered. Many of these cores are pretty cheap – this one is 26 Admin power, as one good example. East and on the south coast of Lake Victoria is…
Buzinga – 31 ADM spent for a core, savannah, 6 dev, iron, 0.02 made, 18.7 unrest, Takama culture instead of Rwandan, to the west, along the coast of Lake Victoria is…
Karagwe – Hills, iron working, barracks, church, 9 dev, Ganda culture, 18.&% unrest, 0.07 made here. 46 spent to core it. West is the holding of Nduga, …
Nduga – On the eastern shore of Lake Kivu, 11 development, highlands, iron, church, I spend 57 to core it, 0.06 made here, 15.7% unrest. South and center of everything I took is…
Bushubi – Hills, grain, church, 9 dev, not enough ADM to core, so I send in a Missionary instead.

This is a big one, let me take you a picture!
https://s21.postimg.org/a188hpxmv/Kongo_1568.png
Big gains in this war. 8 total holdings, and we removed the last threat here.
You can see the major gains from this war there. We have all of the holdings around Lake Tanganika, and then started around Victoria. The light green nation to the north of us is Nkore, and we have the two one province minors to our north as well. Both like us.
I use the blood money to Gabon and build a Textile Manufactory to pump those dyes
I pull back my colonists from Lega, and sent them to Ile Bourbon. I want to get them now while I can. And I have big colonial buffs as well right now.
Abe Sargent
10-23-2016, 02:03 PM
27 May – Buganda, a one-province minor to our north accepts an alliance offer from us
1 June – Our Master Recruiter passed. We hire an Army Organizer to replace him

I cancel the fleet basing rights we had with Kilwa.
20 Aug – Rebels in Karanwe
26 Sept – We kill them all
1 Jan, 1569 – Our colony was set up in Ile Bourbon. I pull back the colonists and send them to Mauritius.
I wasn’t expecting to do islands out there, but we are Catholic all the way, and they are the jewels of the Indian Ocean, so I wanted to grab them now, as Europe keeps moving in and around the area.
5 June – Our ruler gets the Midas Touched Trait and we begin to get better tax income!
3 Sept – We have moved to 4th in the Great Power race. We just slipped past Russia, and we are behind Austria
I cut some stuff for colonial maintenance ,like army and naval supplying to 50% each. I’ll use MIL power to drop any rebellions from my newly absorbed land in Rwanda and Lake Victroria
1 Jan, 1570 – Our explorer died, and I get another for my fleet
2 Feb – We get an Increased free trade event
23 May – Bushubi converts. I order up a core fore it.

Alright, let’s try to circumnavigate the globe!
29 Mar – I get an interesting alliance offer. From Castile.
Portugal and Aragon are rivals and enemies. We are the only major ally of Portugal, the others are The Knights and Ethiopia. Castile is enemies and rivals with England, Aragon, and The Papal States. Hmmmm…
Castile feels threatened by us a bit, is looking to us an a wedge to use against Portugal, and more. So is this a relationship I want to use? I want Cape eventually from Spain.
Let’s do it for now
8 May – Revolt in NKoma
9 June – Defeated after I combined my armies due to my lowered maintenance
15 June – Most of the captured places are now core territories of our nation, and so I send Missionaries to Ruguru and Bafuriru
6 Aug – Get ready!
We get the Additional Colonists Idea from Expansion Ideas!
I send them to Xhosa, east of Graaff-Reinet to set up a colony and hit my mission
I give my clergy Buyogoma
Abe Sargent

16 jan, 1572 – I do another Animist Syncretisim event to incorporate my peoples

4 Aug – We win in Tete versus a different army
1 Sept – Mauritius is Self Sustaining
Mauritius – 11 development, coastline, fish, Kongolese, Catholic, 0.20 made, 75% autonomy,

20 April, 1578 – I capture a siege on Maniyka.
26 May – After my combined three armies force battle with their two, we win in Zimbabwe
27 Nov – Zimbabwe, their capital, falls to us
Do I force some land from these folks? I can take up to four provinces from them. And then leve Portugal to them. That would annoy Portugal, but the fact that Portugal asked me to join a war they declared and hasn’t sent one soldier to help, well I need some stuff. I can take Quelimane, Lolo, Lundu, and Nsenga, and that would be two poor holdings, two decent ones, and stretch a line from the coast to past Lake Malawi and near my inland expanding nation in the back. It would get me some badboy though. But it cuts Mutapa in half. I don’t get anything too valuable, like gold, but I get some stuff. So let’s do that.
I get some gold too
Quelimane – Coastal, next to Portugal in Sofala and Angoche. Ivory trade, tropical, the Zambezi estuary is here giving us bonus trade, coastline, Sunni faith, Nyasa culture, 0.08 made, 22.3% unrest, 75% autonomy church and marketplace are here. 7 development 0.08 made.
In land from that is
Lolo – 3 development, ivory, savannah, tropical, Nyasa people, Fetishist faith, marketplace, 0.01 made here, 17.2% unrest, 75% auto,
I cannot core Lolo until I have cored Quelimane. So I send in a missionary instead
Inland is…
Lundu - 9 development, cloth, tropical, savannah, barracks church, 0.06 made, Nyasa, Fetishist, 17.2 unrest, 75% auto,
Inland of that is…
Nsenga – Also a savannah, also tropical, also 75% autonomy, also 17.2% unrest, also marketplace, grain., also Nyasa culture amd Fetishist faith. 0.01 made here.
All of these are next to Mutapa, Portugal, Tumbukam and Maravi, so they are all near stuff of importance.
Abe Sargent

I’ll show you…
http://s12.postimg.org/ltv7n23kt/Kongo_1578.png
You can see the Kongo Line on the Zambezi in here, south of Lake Malawi. Note our solid reserves of cast, but our savaged manpower, which will drop some more before it starts heading back up again.
Now going to peace behind Portugal’s back won’t earn us any favors with them. But it does earn us land. Note the DIP as well. We’re about ready for another level of tech there
Abe Sargent
10-28-2016, 07:56 AM
23 Mar, 1579 – Buzinza converts and Lundu is next.
1 Apr – I allow Portugal military access
1 May – Get ready! Great Karoo is….GOLD baby
9 July, 1579 – GET READY!!!
Our fleet set sail in and have just finished circumnavigating the globe. Our explorer, Cakasekene Rallum is the first to do so!
We gain a ton of prestige and DIP Power, which represents naval stuff.
1 Nov – Xhosa is self sustaining
Xhosa – Mountains, coastal, Nguni ,Fetishist, wine making, on South Africa coast, up from Graaff-Reinet, and next to unclaimed Natal. Core. 0,16 made, 5 dev, 1.1 unrest.
Where is next? Inhambane? Matsolo, both south of Portugal in Sofala and on the coast? Natal a nd Mtwtwa would connect us to Portugal from our holdings in South Africa. I could lock out a coastal lesser power like Lesser Namaqualand or Ezorongondo. I could head north and expand west of Cameroon and get Calabar on the coast near the Gulf of Guinea. But what I really want to do is connect my stuff internally. So I am aiming for Rukwa
On the southeast coast of Lake Tanganyika, connects Ruuru and Tabwa, and gives us the whole lake as aours, connects our central state to the heathen nation of Tumbuka, and puts us one way to closing with Nsenga and our Zambezi holdings we just took
1 Dec – Dip Tech 11
We get +100 max colonial range, and can build naval equipment manufactories
30 Mar, 1580 = Portugal is elected the new head of the HRE
10 Sept – Lolo converts. Next is Nsenga
11 Nov – Rebellion in Lundu
27 Dec – Defeated
1 April, 1581 – I purchase a Textile Manufactory in Cameroon. Yay Dyes!
1 June – Lundu converts and Xhosa is next in line
3 July – Major illness hits our colony in Rukwa. We spend some cash to organize a response to reduce th settler hit for five years.
Abe Sargent
10-28-2016, 12:02 PM
2 Feb, 1582 – Quelimane is now a core, so Lolo is ordered to be next. I spent th e18 ADM power required to do so
1 June – Admin 12 – We can get more states, and can go to Admin Monarchies and Republics
29 June – Nsenga converts. Now I want to hit Quelimane next, the Sunni state. But it would take 333 months to get it to our side. Here’s the slow down:
-2% Sunni
-2% No accepted Culture
-0.7% Development
Base Value 2%
Stability +1.5
Act of Uniformity and De Heretico +1.5 cumulat8ive
So 5 vs 4.7
I send the missionary and then…
I pass the Blasphemy Act and get +1 missionary strength but -1 tolerance for Heretics
1 Au g – Rukwa is copper
1 Nov – Truce with Tumbuka and Nkore expires
1 Dec – Who’s a full province?
Ile Bourbon – 11 development, Core, coastline,Sugar, Catholic, Kongolese, 0/56 made here already, I order up a church here. (And another in Mauritius).
I am trying to butter up everything for making vassals, not allies. Nah, nevermind I’m a Great Power, what am I doing? Let’s flex my muscles!
1 Feb, 1583 –
Great Karoo – 7 development, gold, drylands, gold, Khosian culture, Fetishist, gold, 1.72 made here monthly, gold, inland of Spain at Cape, Graaff-Reinet, and Swellendam. Multiplae palces ner to it unclaimed. Gold. Core.
I hand Mbwila to the nobility and Chokwe to clergy
I demote Kuba as a culture
I promote Rwandan.
I order three Kuban holdings to become Kongolese
2 Feb – I use my Great Power to foce ally Busoga to break their alliance with Tumbuka
I send colonists to Inhambane, south of Mutapa and Sofala, and on the coast
Abe Sargent
10-28-2016, 02:53 PM
3 Feb – I declare war on Tumbuka.
I want to absorb it, and connect my colony on Rukwa and the central state to my theft from Mutapa.
I order 22000 troops into their capital from Nsenga, and 10 k from Quelimane is heading over as well
10 Feb – Xhosa converts and I send to them G Karoo
3 Mar – We win in the Tumbuka capital
28 Mar – The province of Kalonga is ours
14 April – Ngonde is ours
25 April – Poland declared wr on Portugal, and I join our ally
3 July – Rebels captured all of Nkore
24 July – The capital of Tumbuka is ours
22 Sept – We annex them and stole some gold as well
Ngonde – Connecting Rukwa and Tumbuka, on the northwest shore of Lake Malawi, and with 5 development, tropical savannah, ivory, Nyasa culture, Feitishist people, 15.9% unrest, 75% autonomy, 0.04 made. I order a core here
South along the Lake Malawi west coast is…
Tumbuka – Savannah, tropical, ivory, barracks, church, 8 development, core orders, Nyasa and Fetishist, 0.05 made, 11.4% unrest, and 75% autonomy
South again along the coast is…
Kalonga – tropical drylands, Nyasa Fetishists, core orders 10 development, barracks, marketplace, church here, iron working, 0.06 cash made, 15.9 unrest, 75% auto. Core for here as well.
South is Lolo, west is Nsenga

I recall our colonists from Rukwa and send them to Matsolo, downcoast from Inhambane

11 Feb, 1584 – I get a Foreign Military Expert event. We get an amazing general out of it with 5, 2, 2,2,bonuses. This makes him…
10 Mar – We have a Tea and Sugar and now sugar is up in value considerably
I order Workshop in Ile Bourbon.

21 Oct – Uh Oh
England declared a major Protestant Religious War against Portugal. Joining them are a ton of powers, Brandenburg, France, French Colombia, Scotland, Russia, Sweden, English Mexico, and about….22 minor powers in the HRE, against…Portugal, Norway, Portuguese Brazil, the Ottomans, Denmark, Aragon, and about 4 minors in Europe. Portugal calls us to their side. But I don’t want to fight in this mess. But I doubt any come down here, so okay, fine. We will protect our Catholic bretheren
Slacker :P. You are almost 150 years in. Why aren't those nations part of the Kongo yet?

1 Mar, 1588 – New Tech!
Military 13
We get better artillery fire, shock, and can make better cannons. We switch to Large Cast Iron Cannons
1 April – Two things happen today. First some good news, Ngonde converts! Next up is Tumbuka! Second is sad news. Advisor Nunga Ndo, our Naval Reformer passes. We slide to Trader Bope Kena Ganga
1 July – The final war with Poland and Portugal ends with each side having lost an epic amount o soliders. Poland wins nothing but cash
7 Aug – We get an event called Religious Devotion. Catholics are flocking to our Tribal Kingdom from all over seeking a safe haven, and we are getting more and more conversations from others. We gain a bunch of Admin power and our clergy estae plyalty increases
1 Sept – Fish in Matsolo
13 Nov – It happens. Quelimane finally converts. Next for that missionary is Kalonga
29 Dec – Portugal again elected HRE
21 Jan, 1589 – We get a Times of Need event and can choose four options, We have a powerful dynasty. We have strong bonds with other powers like the von Hapsburgs. Queen Isabella of Castille is married to Garcia, son of our own royal house and a valuable aid and contact
We have a few options. Ask for some money, some diplomatic aid, some military help, or we are fine and gain prestige. I wish land were an option, I’d love o get Cape. I’d love to buy Cape or trade or something.
I send a letter requesting diplomatic aid…
28 Feb – We hear back and they are happy to help us out. We get some aid from the best diplomats the world has, and they train ours and work to help us better. We gain a ton of DIP power and +75 opinion swap
3 Mar – War against others, and Buganda into a war against Mutapa. We have Mutapa, Mombasa, vvs Castile, Buganda, Maravi, Hispaniola
I think they want to annex one province Maravi and prevent us from doing so later. They are besieging her capital right now
I could declare war back, but I still have some badboy to deal with.
5 April – Xhosa’s culture is now ours.
1 June = revolt in Tumbuka
21 July – After a surprisingly feisty battle, they are put down
22 October – Our explorer gets badly drunk off Titi Brew, and it comes back to haunt us, and we lose some prestige.
1 Dec – Our advisor – Natural scientist, passes. Next is a level 1 Treasurer
23 Dec – Tumbuka converts.
1 Jan, 1590 – New Tech
Admin 13 -0 +5% production
21 Feb – We grant aid to a noble estate and gain loyalty
11 March – I send a peace offer to England they accept for a hundred and change in cash, just to get it over. We were behind something like -55% or so.
1 May – I unlock a new idea:
Free Colonies, Exploration Idea, we get another colonist. I send him to Rukwa to help finish that one more quickly
6 July – Great Karoo is now our culture. I order up a church

1 Jan, 1591 – We are in a good place in the Indies, we see most of it now, from our Explorer’s Expeditions. The only major force here is Portugal, but they aren’t here in any major force.
1 May – We are now 5th in Great Powers, Portugal is off the list. The current list in order from 1 to 8
Ottomans
France
Austria
Poland
Kongo
England
Russia
Castile
1 July –
Rukwa – Now a major nation, 5development, Kongolese, Catholic, highlands, tropical, copper, 50% auto, next to us in Tabwa and Ruguru, southeast coast of Lake Tanganyika, and 0.26 made here, core, east and south is Ngonde, and we have a few other internal holdings that no one claims, like Hehe, Bemba and Luangwa.
Next?
I have a few options rolling in my head
1. Grab a wealthy island now in the Indies, to use as a base of operations for expansion there.
2. Take Mtetwa, the connection between our colonies in Natal and Matsolo, and build that up, creating one continuous line up the coast. It’s very low development though.
3. Take all of the African coastal terrain off the map now. All of the remaining ones are 3-4 development with high nasty natives, save for Lesser Namaqualand with nice natives but the same lack of development. This would be strategy only against European expansion into the area.
4. Portugal has most of the Indian Ocean holdings – Christmas Island, Diego Garcia, Mahe, Cocos Island, but the Comoros Islands are free, but angry naives and low 3 development is nothing.
Let’s grab Spice Islands for the win?
I’m heading for Flores, the farthest I can reach colonially. It’s 11 development, low natives that are very nice, and Will take around a year for my colonists to arrive .
1 Aug – Natal will be making slaves
3 Aug – I rent my biggest army, the 2nd one, as mercenaries and Condottieri to the Maravi to face war against the others. I am making a ton of money now, since that army is not being paid, and they are paying me some cash too.
We get colonial enthusiasm post Natal-s Slavery announcement
Next mission – turn Inhambane into a city
15 Feb, 159 2- We get poor copper for a few years and artillery costs rise a bunch
18 Mar – I demand Busoga leave the alliance with Nkore
23 may – Maravi retakes their capital with our rented army
14 June – Our explorer passes. The one who circumnavigated the globe has died.
Abe Sargent
10-29-2016, 09:30 AM
1 Dec – Our truce with Nkore is over…
I declare holy war on Nkore
23 Dec – We rout their army in their capital holding and begin the siege
11 Jan, 1593 – The occupation of Lisboa has frightened many and forcing them to flee. Some are fleeing to our shores. I can choose to welcome them, gain some prestige, and piss off all of the protestants, or the other, and send them home, but only annoy Portugal. I welcome them. Welcome to Southern Africa, and the Kingdom of Kongo! God wills it!
13 Feb – I hire Condottieri from our ally, Buganda.
1 April – Our army reformer died. I hire a Master Recruiter to increased or manpower reserves and speed
1 June- Bunyoro falls
22 June – We lose a province of Ngonde to one of Nkore’s allies, Mogadishu
5 July – Pubungo falls
12 July – Accommodation with natives in Inhambane
31 July – Nkore falls to us. All three holdings are ours
2 Aug – In Natal we encourage the Encomienda System which drops their aggressiveness massively an d gives us bonus goods produced for a few years
1 Nov – We retake Ngonde
17 Nov – We defeat an enemy army in Nkore
4 Dec – I give Maravi military access
4 Jan – Our tired army loses to Ajuuraan in Karanwe
15 Jan – Peace with Maravi and others
22 Feb – We chase and defeat the Ajuuraan forces in Kusu.
30 Mar –
Our ruler, Diogo, has passed.
Now, if you will recall, we had some issue with a heir, so we had a weak heir.
This is Henrique I, 5/1/5, solid at a lot of stuff, and a He is a Zealot as well, and 38 years old. His heir is strong, Ambrosio, 5/3/5, 32 years old with Charismatic Negotiator
So we are safe
We get pretender rebels in Tabwa.
17 April – We accept a royal marriage from Castile, and then Portugal joins us.
1 May –
Matsolo – Full-fledged nation now. I send a Missionary, Nguni people, jungle, tropical, fish, 9 development, 0.41 made here, 12.7% unrest. Upcoast from Mtetwa and downcoast from Inhambane on the Coast of Natal .
4 May – Luckily, we had an army near Taba and were able to force them down
5 June – I hire another Explorer and load up our vessels in Mauritius and send them out once more
14 Sept – In order to force their hand, I have arrived at Ajuuraan and just took Pate.
14 Oct – Songhai announces us as their rival
26 oct – We take Kismoyo
6 Dec – We take BArawa
15 Jan, 1595 – I am besieging their capital as they retake the ones we gathered.
10 Feb – We cancel the Condottieri
1 April – Flores is Spices!
15 April – They retook all of the small land we had
1 Aug –
Natal – Now self-sustaining, core, I order a Missionary here, Nguni, slaves, jungle, on norder with Xhosa and Mtetwa, 0.22 made herem 12.8% unrest, 3 development
My next target is Mtetwa and East Timor
7 Sept – We defeat an enemy army again
17 Oct – Merca, the capital of Ajuuraan, falls to us.
19 Oct – We get the three provinces of Nkore, 210 gold, and peace
We lost 17k troops ot their 38k

Here, I zoomed in to show you where we are
We took the three provinces west of Lake Victoria and behind the two one province minors there. Another nation bites the Kongolese dust!
I’ve got a little cash, we still have an okay manpower situation at 16k,and we only gained about 12 badboy, and I lose around 2.5 annually, so in a few years, I can hit Mutapa hard for that war we all know is coming ,and unite my South African colonial efforts with our expansion eastward.
Here, let me show you our area down there as well
https://s11.postimg.org/i2ljd4umb/Kongo_SA_1595.png
You can see Quelimane and Lolo above, and the Portuguese holding of Sofala currently in rebel holdings. I can war with Mutapa, and then take the inland provinces to connect me behind Portugal, and that would also prevent them from expanding in as well. Meanwhile, you can see Inhambane and Matsolo, the future colony of Mtetwa, and Natal, Xhosa, and more to the south. I’ve gotten the wealthy ones here, but I want to slowly move and take the whole area, but my major concern is Lesser Namaqualand, and then Roggeveld to prevent Castile from heading inland.

North is…
Bunyoro – West is wastelands, near and around Lake Albert, north of Nkore, and west pf both Busoga and Buganda folks. Savannah, tropical, church, barracks, marketplace, salt trade, Ganda and Fetishist folks, 23.1% unrest, and 75% autonomy, 10 dec, 0.07 made here

We now have maps of the entire world. Since 1506, what has happened?
France expanded into northern Italy, Sweden has almost absorbed Denmark,

Abe Sargent
10-29-2016, 03:06 PM
So what do I want most?
Tactically, I need Sena, Manikya, and Madanda, which link to connect us. After that I go for value.
Those three get us to 24 warscore.
Massapa and Butua have gold mines, so they are next.
Hmmm….
Bujera and Zimbabwe are on the table.
Actually, for 91 warscore, I can take everyone of the 10 provinces on the west side of that canal we made, leaving just 5 provinces on the coast and inland for Mutapa.
Actually, I could then add in any one province not named Angoche. I;m thinking Makua to separate them. Now if I take it, I am about to get 28.7 badboy. Which is a lot. But we just added 11 provinces and some gold to our roster.
So lets do it.
Here, let me show you the pre-diplomacy stuff
https://s22.postimg.org/k7q0rooxt/Kongo_1601.png
You can see the stuff glowing bright green, thast’s what I’m taking, plus the bit of cash. But it’s worth it to end Mutapa as a force. They are left the three coastal provinces that that small one by Makua.
Abe Sargent
10-29-2016, 03:11 PM
BOOM!
I spend 155 to core the 6 Zimbabwe provinces. 21 for Makua, 26 for Shangwe and 88 for Zumbo, Sena and Tete
Unless I tell you otherwise, they are Fetishist, Shona culture, 75% autonomy ,and 22.6 unrest
Makua – savannah, tropical, ivory, Makua people, Sunni faith, 4 development, marketplace, 0.02 made her,e 22.6 unrest.
Sena - 6 dev, savannah, ivory, tropical, marketplace barracks, 0.04 made here
Tete – 6 dev, savannah, tropical, inland center of trade, marketplace, barracks, 0.03 made here, ivory here as well
Zumbo – Savanah, ivory, 5 development, note this is not tropical, 0.02 made here, marketplace.
Shangwe – Marketplace, savannah, grain, 5 dev., nothing made here,
Massapa – Highlands, GOLD, 5 development, 0.22 made here, regimental camp, marketplace
Butua – Highlands, GOLD, 8 development, 0.28 made here, church, marketplace,

Mandanda – Jungle, 3 development, 0.01 made, ivory, marketplace, regimental camp

100 YEAR REVIEW
https://s21.postimg.org/bdplskb6f/Kongo_100_year_review.png
Here you can see us all zoomed out and looking pretty. Now a lot of that land that was filled in is wasteland. The map fills in when you are around it. It’s looks nice. Huge and many wastelands are there, like the Kalahari Desert, Northern Congo Basin, or Namibia. But it still looks pretty, right? Right!
My 5th colony pushed my budget into a crazy place. The costs of each additional colony is a lot more than the previous one, and the 5th is 10 gold monthly all on its own. We need to drop it to four after that. But my budget went from a nice surplus to around -1 a month. I can trim in other places if I need to, like naval, but not need to do that yet. We’re still at a healthy treasury.

Our ruler is King Henrique, 50 years old, Zealot, Well Advised, 5/1/5 stats, and his heir is Ambrosio 5/3/5 44 years old. Charismatic Negotiator. So we are set here.
Our accepted Cultures are Luba, Kongolese, Mbundu and Rwandan
We are allies with Castile, Portugal, Buganda, and Busoga
RM with Portugal and Castile
We have 13/11/14 tech. Where does that put us? Not that great. Ajuuraan on the Horn of Africa is 9/11/13. Castile is 12/14/14. Portugal 13/15/14. Now, France is 14/16/16, and England 16/15/16. Catholic is behind because you are able to get the institution from 1550 of the Printing press much easier if you are Reformed or Protestant. We aren’t. None of the Catholics have it yet. I don’t have a single holding with it. That gives me a +50% penalty to techs right now
On the other hand, my capital is at 80% Global Trade, the 1600 institution, and we will see it spread from there soon.
We have 19 ships with 36 force limit, and 49/59 army
We now know of most nations in the world, so our ledger this time will be a lot better:
We have 4t best income after France, Ottomans and Russia
We are the 3rd most developed nation in the world
We have the 5th highest max manpower
Not counting colonial nations like Portuguese Brazil, there are more Protestant nations in the world than Catholics, but just 20% the same number of provinces.
Our best provinces in taxes, from top to 10th
Loango
Kalundwe
Mauritius
Ile Bourbon
Ndongo
Lega
Benguela
Soyo
Mpemba
Nduga
Non-gold holdings by production?

We know of colonies, we could reach, that have these high base development:
Manila – 14
2 at 13
2 at 12 (One is Ampom)
2 at 11
4 at 10
All in Asia
In Africa, the highest unclaimed province is 6, the next is 2 at 5. And then 2 at 4. The rest are all 3. That’s why I was moving to Asia when I could.
We have 88 provinces.
C urrent colonies –
Ampom
West Timor
Ceram
Ezorongondo
Lesser Namaqualand
Ampom, at 934, is almost ready
Our general is the 5th best in the world right now
We have the 5th biggest army
The biggest trade nodes by total value are Genoa, Sevilla, and Lubeck. Kongo is very low.

It’s looks nice. Huge and many wastelands are there, like the Kalahari Desert, Northern Congo Basin, or Namibia. But it still looks pretty, right? Right!
Absolutely. Doesn't at all look like someone threw up on the map or somebody's twisted Picasso impersonation. Put those thoughts out of your head.
I mean, yeah, what you said. Good job. Keep going. Destroy the infidels(aka Europeans). All that stuff.

MAPS!!!
Let me get one big zoomed out map for you
https://s21.postimg.org/qjnue46dz/Kongo_150_year_review_map_1.png
Now the Indies
https://s21.postimg.org/gavd8aic7/Kongo_150_year_review_map_2.png
I wish our color were better, sorry about that.
You can see us in the Philippines, various islands, the spice islands, the Moloccas, and more. Light green is Portugal, so you can see thy have a few islands on the map, and England is on Borneo island, south of Brunei. I am next to Sunda, Pasai, and Bali in the south.
England is in the Pacific in places like South Caledonia, Easter Island, and more. There is a large French Mexico, and English are all over the West Coast of North America, included Washington, California, and such…
Britain never formed the 13 colonies, and most of Eastern US is still uninhabited, oddly. So Scotland landed and took parts of Maryland Virginia, New England and Manhattan and long Island. Just the coastal areas, mostly.
But all of Florida, and everything from South Carolina down is untouched. Many tribes are still here, like the Inca and Aztec, and MesoAmerica was left alone. Without a full Spain, Castile was divided.

Hmmmm
Is it wrong to peacefully annex a Hindu nation and then immediately convert them to Catholicism and change their culture to ours? Ah well. I send Missionaries to Madura and Blambangan. I also got a couple of ships and 5k troops we are updating.
Now, have I allowed this dynasty to veer off course into the Indies overly much and not worrying about stuff like Africa? I mean, I get colonially, but I am spending badboy fighting Tidore and Ternate. Is that really what I want to keep doing?
Alright, no more wars abroad why I still have Africa to deal with. I have the nations north, the Horn, and all of that. Knock this crap off.
Portugal is now threatened by us, and allies with Castile. So I ally with them. I’ll slowly lose the Austrian tether.

29 Aug – I grant Portugal military access
1 Sept – New Tech
Naval 20 – costs 613, Naval Professionalism, better trade range and efficiency
So let’s take about advances a bit. Here’s what we are making:
5/12/6
We have Dip as my national focus for when I needed ot pump it up for Printing Press. So I move my national focus to Admin like normal, and we are at…
8/9/6
Now let’s math that – We get 12x8 (96)x9(108)andx6(72) annually. So I needed roughly 3 years to get enough DIP to get that level 20. Now we’ll need around 6. The next is 649. We are in a good place for tech moving forward.
Aru is Tea

1 Jan. 1676 – Tagloc is Spices
Oceania is now mostly taken. France has Hawaii, Nauru, Gilbert Islands, while England has Marshall, Midway, Tonga, New Caledonia, Society Islands, Eastern Portugal has Galapagos, and Castile has Tuamuto Islands,. Portugal is all over Australia and New Zealand and we are in the Indies and Philippines. I could grab the unclaimed New Guinea holdings or Taiwan. France is in Borneo, England is there too, and Portugal is in numerous islands as well.
I took a look. How many coastal provinces anywhere are available.
Africa? None, save for Bonny, next to England and Benin.
South America? None
North? Tons on the east coast, like Florida and the Carolinas. Nothing from Roanoke up until you get to high Canada in the arctic. From Washington state down, nothing on the west coast is unclaimed. Just some Canadian and Alaskan areas.
Asia? Just some in Siberia, around Kamchatka

I order – Trading Company in Manado (which will give me another 0.51 a month), Plantation in Poso (another 0.76/month) and Trade Company in Kendari (0.51)over on Sulawesi, Trade Company on Ilocos in the Philippines (0.51) and Trade Company in Yamdena (0.39/month). It’s around 433 for each manufactory, so the 2k was basically 5 free ones. I still have 173 after those purchases. I included the hard numbers after that so you could see what the benefit of those is like later on.
We get an additional 2.5 a month or so from this stuff. So another 25 or 26 a year, which is one third of my workshop or church annually. Right now we’re building 12 manufactories.
In most circumstances, you get advancement from a building based on your development. But that’s not the case with manufactories, with are solely based off your trade good.
Here I’ll give you an example.
One of my wealthiest provinces in Manila:
14 dev, Spices, trade company, workshop and church.
We get 3.26 a month from it in tax and production. So, let me spend 63 DIP power to increase production there from 6/6/2 to 6/7/2. My production rose and our cash I now 3.44. Now I don’t normally spend that Power to make stuff better. But I do occasionally. In this game, every 10 development lets you build another building. So if I need to build something and I’m out of room, and the development is close to the next 10 or 20, then I’ll use some power to increase it. Typically that’s Military power to increase the manpower from that province. Military power is the one I use the least. ADM, which is the tax base, is used for most of my favorite Ideas, cores, and stability. Dip is used for production increases, Ideas of value, culture changes, Admirals, Explorers, and such. So it’s not usually my choice. Mil is used for reducing rebellions, but I don’t use it for that too often, you can usually tell where the rebellion I happening and move an army over per-rebellion. Other than the occasional Idea, it’s just the occasional general, and I often use my leader as my main general. So it get used for building up the development of holdings, which in turns means I have good manpower for my many wars.
Take Munene as a good example over in Central Kongo. 3/5/4 development right now, jungle spices . I upped it’s military and now with a 4 development it gets 750 manpower to me.
17 July – Conversation in Lindi. Next?> Kilwa

Most of Ajuuraan is crap. 6 grain, 5 fish, 3 wool, and one of the two Mogadishiu is wool too. No one wants fish, wool, and grain. And they are all low development for the most part as well.
So I want…these:
Pate – Next to us, up the coast, cloth, 8 dev, 0.09, barracks and church here. Swahili
Kismayo – Next up the coast Fish, 6 dev, 0.02, barracks and marketplace, savannah,

Warsheikh – Other Mogadishu holding, up the coast, wool, this takes them out. 6 dev, desert, 0.01 made, dock, marketplace
El Buur – Iron, inland, adjacent to Warsheikh. Steppes, 0.02 made here,
Werder – Very inland, deeper than El Buur, has a fort, want to pull down their defenses, Slaves, Bastion, Highlands, 0.01 made here
Meregh – Up coast, wool, 5 dev, 0.02 made here, Steppes
Hobyo – Up coast, grain, Steppes, 4 dev, dock, 0.01 here made
Garoowe – Up coast, fish, dock, 0.01
Qardho – Upcoast, fish, Dock, Regimental Camp, 0.00

https://s14.postimg.org/6n1icnu9d/Kongo_1682.png
We would get 28 badboy

All of these 9 have 3 development, tropical and jungle save for two. But they have solid chances at exotic goods, and I’d rather have a 3 development with Spices or Tea or Coffee with a chance for Tropical Wood or Fish or Naval Supplies instead than a shot at yet another Slaves/Ivory province with grain and wool the other options all over Africa
1 Nov – I order Trade Company in Zumbo
1 Jan, 1686 – We have cores in Werder and El Buur concludes

Alright, let’s take some pics!!!
Map of lower Africa:

You can see our big fat blob all over.
Alright, Indies:
https://s11.postimg.org/ghzzmj41v/Kongo_200_year_Review_Indies.png
Note Taiwan beside the Paused note at the top, and the Philippines below that. You can see us in Sulawesi, most of Papua, and on most of Java. We have slowly pushed here with annexation of Bali, Makassar, taking Demak, as well as Ternate and Tidore. This is the extent of where I’m going. Oh, and the dark blue in Brunei island is France, that red is England, the green outside of Pasai is Portugal.
Here, let me show you various world maps
Oceania:
MAP!

Portugal has most of Australia and New Zealand. Tidore was colonizing down here, and just continued, and is south of Portugal. You can see other islands to the north and west colonized as well. There are few opportunities for expansion, and I’m not interested. Rabaul, the crescent shaped island to the east of Papua, is it.
Here’s South America
