Does FOF8 come with a player editor, or the ability to create custom league sizes/configurations?
Thanks...

With some effort, you can edit a players name, jersey number and position (I believe).
As far as a COMPLETE customized league - No. League size remains firm as 32 Teams and modeled after the NFL. You can edit the teams City and name, but that is as far as it goes.

~ Having said that, FOF8 is top notch when it comes to detail in regards to stats, player development and evaluation. No other American Football sim comes close IMO.
HOPEFULLY, now that Jim has made FOF as good as it can really get in regards to the actual 'guts' of the game, maybe he will now look into and work on things such as league and player customization (including a much more vibrant/alive UI). However, I wouldn't hold my breath on that. He's already stated that this (FOF8) was his 'last' major change to the FOF series.

OK - thanks. I'm looking for something a little more robust. I guess I'll wait and see if OOTP's football game (if they ever release it) is as good as their baseball sim.

Good luck to you. You're missing out on a great sim here, even if it won't let you play a 14-team league with 1940s rosters, etc etc etc. I'd be delighted, but surprised, if a new offering comes out looking more...er..."robust" in the ways that matter for long term play. But YMMV, of course. Cheers.

Come on, dude, don't spread this misleading info, context is needed (http://www.solecismic.com/frontierblog/uncategorized/front-office-football-eight-news/).
This is definitely the biggest leap between new versions I’ve ever tried. This is the final major piece of new development for my vision of Front Office Football. After a good rest, I hope to start on TCY2. No promises there, but the vision has always been about having both products.

Lol....I love posters like you. Why didn't share the part where Jim stated this....

You're the one misleading, mate.

i wish Marcus all the best and am looking forward to seeing what they come up with, but in fairness they won't have this customization either. They've been working on it for a few years now and gave a quick update a few weeks ago:
We are quite close to running a few first plays with the engine. Truth is that football is an incredibly complex game, maybe the most complex of them all. Especially what happens at the line of scrimmage is quite difficult to account for, but we are getting closer to actually having a working engine. Coding it is not even the issue all that much but rather figuring out on paper how it all should work. It's pretty much like inventing a board game (that's at least how I am feeling about it by now). I think we should be able to run beta tests with the engine quite early next year. Hope this is some good news, apart from that still not all that much to report.
BTS 1 will be based on OOTP 17 GUI code base and hence should remain solid and stable and focus on a realistic representation of the NFL. Things like colleges / highschool football, fictional leagues and advanced customizable features will be added throughout the years in later versions.
imo Jim doesn't get the respect he deserves, but to each his own.

This is truly the ultimate ( for now ) American Football Management sim. Waiting for something better to come along, generally, is a huge waste of time. :) I will add, per editing players, you can do so "by hand". The CSV files can be loaded into a spreadsheet for "easy" rating manipulation. Lots of categories to consider. A Player Editor would be great, however.

You do have the ability to amend the player start file csv file. Which means you can amend all the details of all the players at the start of the game, including their skill ratings.
You can't amend anything after the game has started though.

Sorry, no.
And I appreciate that the game is otherwise outstanding - I'm not sure why editing player ratings, names, etc. mid-game is such a big ask.
The custom league sizes are less of a thing... it would be fun to make the USFL great again, though...

They haven't been working at it a few years. It was in progress for a while but then the lead developer had a medical issue and was unable to work on it ... so the project stalled for a while until a new lead developer was found and began work up again.

Because that isn't the vision the guy who created the game has.
I'm not bashing you here, but if you consider robust a player editor and customized leagues, that's not the kind of "robust" the vast majority of players here have.
I'd KILL for an OOTP as good as this game. OOTP has the features and not the backbone (this is my opinion, yours may be different) This game may lack editing options, but holy crap the rest of it is solid. For 30 bucks, you are really missing out on a fantastic game.

I guess I'm not that sophisticated when it comes to looking under the hood - I've had great fun playing historical leagues and custom configurations with OOTP.
I'm not in a hurry to buy another game - especially at this time of year - even at the very fair price it's being sold for. While I appreciate that the creator may have a different vision, what the consumer wants also counts for something.
Thank you for your insight.
