As an advanced American Football player first, Coach later I have a bit of confusion about the name "Cover 2" in this Version...

So... Correct me if I am wrong or chip in with your opinions...

Cover 2... CBs cover the Flats, LBs cover Curls and Middle, 2 Deep Safeties in Coverage.

Press 2... Man to man Coverage with 2 Safeties over the Top.

Is that what it means??

This is very important in order to know what "Identity" you want your defense to have and what players are you going to chase...

The only obvious difference in FOF is in cover-2 the cornerbacks play man to man coverage and in press-2 the cornerbacks play bump and run coverage. Safeties play two deep zones in both.

Cover-2 will be a stronger against the run and long passes while press-2 will be stronger against screens and short passes.

I get what you're asking, but I personally don't think FOF goes into that kind of detail about specific routes and such. It's dice rolls and probabilities rather than simulating little men running around on the field imo.

Then why is there a play designer for offense?

Why were there a lot of things in FOF7 that did nothing, or almost nothing? Because it creates the illusion of a more complete simulation perhaps. Or maybe it is just that when it is all put together certain small things got lost in a big equation.

I don't know if cleverly designed plays will do much of anything. My gut says no but I am guessing. Going by past history it wouldn't be a shock if it was just window dressing.

I think Yabanci's understanding of the game is spot on. I have seen many players get held back by treating the game like real football. It is counter productive if you want to improve.

Same reason there are plays in the first place. Things like depth and inside/outside obviously matter. Don't think that means there are little men following each other around the field like in real life.

Yep, so bring it to the defense!

There is nothing truer said. This is not a football game. It may have teams, players, logos, stats, plays, etc...but it's really just a math problem with window dressing. You do enough calculations and tests, you figure out the equation, and boom...you figure out the game.

I was excited about FOF 8 because 7 had been taken over by those that understood the math, and knew what numbers to plug in where in order to increase the odds. You sim 1000 seasons, you figure out what numbers correlate with what success rate, and you go from there. It's basically counting cards. Every little aspect of the game was broken down so that those who knew how could gain a little advantage in each section, and therefore by the end the odds were always in their favor. Kinda like Hunger Games but without the good looking girl shooting arrows.

With that being said I enjoy the game for what it's worth and because I love football. So even the window dressing draws me in. I played football for many years, I've coached and still coach. Absolutely zero of that knowledge helps me. What would help is checking the box where my best CB covers their best WR and running 1000 seasons. Then unchecking the box where my best CB covers their best WR and running another 1000 seasons. Then I would plug the results in my fancy spreadsheet and figure out which one yields a better overall defensive output and boom...on to the next category.

Do this with enough of the game...player ratings, plays, play directions, coaches ratings, combine numbers, ticket prices, affinities, mentors, etc...and after a while you've solved the problem. Put them all together and you have an advantage that would get your barred from the Mirage so fast that you'd end up downtown at the Golden Nugget wearing a fake mustache and sunglasses.
