What happens when an owner joins a league midseason and has a bunch of 1 year contract Players to sign? Can the commish do that for him?

Why would the commish sign a bunch of 1 year contracts?

ROFL, Ben, he is talking about taking over a team and all your players are on 1 year contracts. You don't have the opportunity to sign them. He is asking if the commish can sign the contracts for you to extend them so you don't lose the players.
Husk, I was once told it was part of the "learning experience" lol

I think I found something in the commish control called, Set contract button. I think that will do it. I'm going to have to test it.

Please keep us informed Husker as this could help a lot of new guys in leagues

That feature doesn't calculate the cap hit properly during the season. (Same issue as why he got rid of in-season renegs in the first place.)

If nothing works, i did see a commish basically write a post stating that one of the players that was about to hit free agency or was in free agency was not available, and allowed a player the opportunity to sign them. I don't know what the reason was but it illustrates a written post is all that's needed to give that new GM a fair chance at keeping the core players on the team.

of course that would be in free agency the following year

I think that is just part of the deal now if you join mid-season. In my opinion (as a Commish myself), just because you are new to a team doesn't mean you should get special treatment. It'd be just like joining at the beginning of a season and you have a bunch of guys that just became FAs - you wouldn't "set them aside" just because a new owner took over and didn't have a chance to resign them previously.

I can understand that. I don't think it's in the league's interest to allow teams to be neglected and eventually abandoned leaving there young star players unsigned. It's not really about special treatment, it's about the commish just not letting happen in the first place. If you have a few vacancies this shouldn't be to much of a problem, if you have a lot of vacancies that is the problem.
When you join a league mid season and watch all your best players hit free agency, and those players are the best players in free agency (generally), it's a problem. Why let that happen? As the commish, just resign the few young core players back to the team (not old guys) and maintain the integrity and balance the game needs. I know it must be real fun to watch that 85/85 5th year QB go unsigned on that neglected team, but that creates a league of imbalanced rosters. Then the guy coming into the team literally has to spend the next 4-5 months "real time" building back up a roster if you sim every other day. How is that fun or appealing for a "new player"?.. not a vet joining a new league. My basic point is it can be prevented so prevent it.

I'm going to allow this in the CFL, I'd hate for an owner to miss out on a player and have them go into the FA Jungle, just because they didn't have time to do it in the off season.

I guess this wouldn't be as much of a concern if FOF had compensatory picks.
Although if FOF did have comp picks, my guess is it would make the elite GMs in MP with drafting mad skillz even harder to compete with. So I don't know if I think they would be a good thing to include or not

If you apply it only to guys coming off rooking contracts and only with a current or future potential of whatever number you set, like 60 I would say, it would apply to maybe 2 guys a year.. not even most of the time.
