Depth chart trouble, noob

Ok, i managed to get the game going on a laptop. I started my career with the lions and the first thing i did was to exchange a 3rd round draft pick for a young inside linebacker with a lot of potential in rush strenght and tecnique. I acquired the player from the panthers and then i went to his player window, i activate him and de-activate another player (so i can stay in the 46 limit) and then i put him in the MLB position in the "defensive personnel" chart for almost every situation (base, 0/2 wr, etc.). What happens next ? I try to simulate the week until my pre-season game and a box appears to tell me that i have to fill the depth chart before starting a game. I went back to the defensive personnel window and i find out that "the game" switched things back: the young linebacker was no more considerated active, and it was put De Andre Levy back in his place. What is the problem ? How can i make that young linebacker to be a starter ?

Go to Configuration, Single player options. Disable the AI to Manage Depth Charts and Roster Filling.
