Could someone direct me or explain to me the concept of static bars as it relates to the rookie draft? There was once a very detailed essay on the subject but the server has been down for awhile. Bad on me for not printing it out.

If memory serves, I realize that one of the draft utilities has an explanation but I've not had good success getting it to run on my computer.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, there are some older posts on this subject, perhaps the best one here from two years ago:

What is static Bar - Front Office Football Central (http://forums.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=90387&highlight=%22static+bars%22)

Any new insights on the subject?

The thread you posted does a pretty good job.

Not all individual ratings are the same. With defensive backs, there are three types of coverage shown: man, zone, and bump. In FOF, bump and run coverage is a "static" rating, so with a young player, rather than that rating looking something like 19/62 (partially developed red, with a green extension indicating potential for growth), it's far more likely to just look like a fully developed 45.

Over time, you'll become familiar with which bars look this way, what they seem relevant for, and what that information is worth to you when drafting and evaluating players for your team.

One hint: many savvy drafters feel like good static ratings are a good sign for rookie players... even if the rating itself isn't a big deal, a high bar in one or more of these static skills might be a tipoff of a good player.

Another hint: If you think I was being cagy above, and this is some easy-to-follow recipe for drafting superstar players, please discard that idea. There really aren't many super easy end-arounds in this game like that. I meant what I said - some people think it's a useful angle.

Thanks, QuikSand.

Yes, I was hoping to use this as a tool and not an absolute method of picking players. Every little bit helps when you're trying to catch up in a very competitive league.

And to add to Quik's remarks, I'd say that looking at static bars in combination with the combine(s) that regulate them seems to be useful.
