View Full Version : AI put WR in at OT ... WTF!

One of my teams just noticed this is a Pre-Season week 4 game. Attached is their roster and the log of the game just showing the last play of the 1st half and first play of the 2nd half.
On the last play of the 1st half, 5 starting OL were in lineup. Same team started 2nd half, but the AI replaced 3 of the 5 stating OL with the 3 backup active OL on the team (see roster). The C remained in lineup perhaps because there was not another active center on roster. The 5th remaining starting OL, at RT, was then replaced with a WR! Roster clearly shows that V. Moore is a WR. Moore got creamed the entire 2nd half allowing numerous sacks.
How is this even possible? Doesn't instill a whole lot of faith the in-game lineups algorithms.

I had something similar but in reverse that was the straw that broke the camels back for me with 8 - after injuries to my WRs, the replacement was my back up offensive tackle, and managed to catch 4-40+ yards, including one where he ran down the touchline for 20+ yards
Edit to add: however, as a long term player of the game, I’m considering 8 as a glitch, and remain cautiously optimistic about OOTP FOF

AlexB, I hope the real-life Philadelphia Eagles use the offensive tackle they picked in the 7th round of this year's draft in exactly that manner: Jordan Mailata Rugby League Highlights 2017 - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH233ZDm-BA)

Dola, i still really dislike the way we can’t control who goes into the game once the nominated starter is injured, rested however.
This the reason for my cautious optimism rather than full excitement: if it stays the same I will be a first day demo player rathern first day purchaser

Yes, it's apparently true that the computer game has some weaknesses in strange lineup circumstances. Seems to happen mostly in preseason, but i'm sure injuries can cause oddities that the game routines fail to handle very well. This definitely doesn't happen all the time... it's seemingly a product of very unusual lineup or injury circumstances, or otherwise confined to the use-the-backups routines in play during the preseason.
I have a hard time seeing how this, of all things, would be a "walk away from the game" sort of issue, but to each his own.

There’s a big difference between an issue being the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ and ’a walk away from the game issue’ to quote my initial post and Quik’s post respectively
But given my experience with 8, it has raised a red flag that means it is a notable enough issue for me that it means i may be ‘demo player’ on day 1, but that’s not walking away from the game.
Not going to go into the other issues, as I got jumped on (not unexpectedly i guess on an FOF fan forum) by a couple of people who are big fans of the game - don’t need to get into that again, it’s easily searchable, and as Quik says, ‘to each his own’
Let’s instead concentrate on the one thing I think we are all in agreement with is that we hope OOTP FOF takes the game forward.

In the RZB we just had the greatest QB in the history of the league return a kickoff (from his own team)
Gotta love these types of bugs.

Preseason is broken with the depth charts so that's why we turn off injuries in preseason in our MP league.

The instance I was referring to above was in the conference championship game.

There are a fair few problems with odd choices of players being thrown in to the line up in the regular season. It isn't just a pre season problem.
Gameplan's misfire on occasion too, dropping plays in that are not supposed to be there.
Defense is a big mess and always has been.
I can't be bothered to report anything any longer as I don't even get a reply.
There are positives to come out of FOF8 but the deeper you get in to it the more it feels rushed and unfinished. Casual players may not see that. It is easy to see good things on face value but it is lacking in substance. FOF7 never felt like that. At least we have reason to be hopeful the series will pick up again.

I didn't notice this kind of problems as yet... The game throws the plays I want it to throw depending in what down and distance and never noticed players out of position for the shake of it, unless 2 or 3 injuries hit my line up.
