Listening to the Squirrel and Quick happy hour, in this case 2 hours, with Ben, where Ben commented on an interesting theory - the in-game "Quote of the Day" may not just be for show and may possibly be cryptic messages from the guru known as Jim Gindin. To that end and hopefully with the help of others, I am hoping we can capture and post these quotes as talking points. So to begin the journey:

For those who haven't listened, my theory--that this isn't just fluff, but actually may give valuable tips--is built on the following:
A solo developer--for whom time is perhaps his most precious commodity--invested lots of time into creating 365 or 366 (not sure about leap year) different quotes to include in FOF8.
There is a specific quote for every day, meaning everyone who opens the game today will see the quote that Nawlins posted above. Tomorrow, we will all see a different quote.
Virtually all of the text in the game is easily accessible, meaning all you have to do to see, say, every possible first name, last name--and even the weird names like Milk Jug--in FOF is open up a file that has all of them.
However, this is just a bunch of text, but it is NOT easily accessible. I assume it's the quoteland.fdt file, which can't be easily viewed like so many of the others.
There is a long history of this game rewarding people who play it a lot. (Example: I don't know that anyone called them "masked pairs" or could specifically tell you all of the pairings that worked together, but well before MalcPow's thread, a number of long-time players would often say "I'm drafting that guy because his bar pattern looks like dozens of other guys I've seen in the past who were masked.") Having a player gain little strategy nuggets only accessible one at a time by opening up the game 365 days a year* would fit perfectly into that history.Like many things, I don't know this for sure, but it just....fits.
*--Well, if you had the patience, you could change the date of your computer 364 times to see them all, I guess. I don't have that patience. *shurg*

I love/hate that this is a viable thing

Speaking of Doremus Jessup, I think I’m remembering correctly that in FOF 2001 the NFLPA license didn’t extend to certain players, so LB Lamar Arrington was named, in-game... Sinclair Lewis.
Let’s see how far the rabbit hole goes!

Maybe the QOTD list is just an extended Enigma style puzzle, heh. The literary references are arrows pointing toward their sources. Carraway gets us to F or G, or something. I love it.

Pretty sure this is one of the potential Red Flag impacts, and that there are others as well.

This describes Shane Shelton (red flag QB in IHOF) to a tee. Some days he is on point and throws 4 TDs while hitting 60% of his passes. Then, the next game, he is a turnover machine and hits on 40% of his passes. I don't know that he'll ever string enough good games together in the playoffs to win a championship. All it takes is one bad day and you're done for the season.
