Who will be banned next???

Please read all the posts before posting. They also made some very racist comments. I have no problem with them expressing their opinions, no one does. But there is proper threads to do it in and cotinued trolling and trying their hardest to get a flame war going should get people banned.

Back about 8 years ago in the BBS days, when the Web first started becoming popular and all the dimwits from compuserve went in masses to AOL, it was a popular sentiment to ban anyone from AOL just to keep this type away. Some days I really think that is a good idea :)

What I am interested in is an acknowledgement that you crossed the line. Not in baiting the trolls, I could give less than a shit about that, but in the phrasing you chose to do it with. Either you're a regular member or you're a shadow admin free to do as you damned well please. If it's the latter, then Ryan and/or SD should at least admit it so we know who/what we're dealing with.

If another member went to the same place with racial or ethnic slurs, there'd have been a hue & cry. But since you chose to stereotype white, southern guys (which do indeed make up a significant portion of the NASCAR fan base), it looks like that's okay.

It would have been better had someone told me about these trolls from the start, rather than trying to fight 'em. Actually from reading the thread, it was probably a couple of post, not just one but that one just stands out the most....

Regardless, everything doesn't have to be settled with a suspension/ban, and I think it should just start with a simple warning and go from there for everyone.

I don't think any of what was said warrants a ban or anything, but nobody should get a free pass to troll anywhere on the board just because someone else is.

Especially in this case where he's insulting many other members of the board at the expense of insulting the person being an ass. Suddenly every Nascar fan on the board is redneck racist trash now.

Many of you who are commenting on the recent bannings didn't even read the thread that spawned this whole situation because it was deleted. I don't know how anyone can disagree with the banning of Happy29, he was constantly making worthless posts in numerous threads including one where he was bragging about being the most recent post in every forum. I mean come on, this wasn't a first time thing. He may not have been warned but this isn't grade school, you don't need to be warned to stop acting like a fool.

When I saw Blackadar's 'dumbass decoder" post I laughed. Now in retrospect it may not have been the most PC thing to say, but most of you didn't see what led to that culmination and therefore can't see the situation objectivly. To say Blackadar should be suspended for one questionable post while Happy was given a significant amount more to hang himself is short sighted.

I agree with Sky Dog, and I ask his forgiveness for not just sending him an email. Man, I go away for a day and it all blows up!

First of all, I think I was trolling a bit. If I deserve to be suspended for that, than so be it. But I wanted to put out exactly what was happening before it all went too shit.

Apparently Happy and Jersey Shore were really into their NASCAR discussion, which they had started in the "Most Controversial" thread, completely threadjacking that thread for who knows what reason. Then when pjstp20 called them on it, expressing his opinion of NASCAR, they lit into him.

I was annoyed that the thread had been threadjacked, but I was mostly amused at how they went into instant defense mode on NASCAR when pjstp20 expressed his opinion. It seemed a perfect time to drop my own opinion on NASCAR, which was at least on topic (threadjacked topic, that is). This of course led to another vitriol-laced response, which, if I recall correctly, called into question my manhood among other things. I just played that one off.

You might think this pissed me off, but when you consider the source, it really only brought me laughter. I literally couldn't believe this person was responding the way they were, but there it was. Yes, I was generally annoyed, too, but I was much more finding it humorous in an unintentionally comedic manner than I was annoyed at it.

It was at this point that I probably should have just shot off an email to SkyDog, but I wasn't annoyed enough to do that (heck, I have never done that here--emailed a mod about another's behavior--and I have been annoyed to the point of deep anger a few times--mrskippy's rants about the Angels last year come to mind).

So I decided, "Okay, fair is fair. If they can threadjack a thread of interest to me, than I can do the same to one of theirs." They had started the Dennis/Harvick thread, so I went over there and posted about the most controversial members of FOFC, restarting the discussion they had threadjacked away in the first thread. GoldenEagle and Blackadar were kind enough to respond to me in kind, picking up on what I was doing, but they had no knowledge of what my intentions prior to my posting, and had no part in its conception. So if anyone should be punished for trolling (besides those who have been banned), it should be me.

I didn't threadjack any other threads of theirs, and I even voted in their poll (I picked Harvick, who, ironically, is leading 4-3 as of the typing of this post--and has anyone ever heard of a thread with a poll having not only more posts than poll votes, but almost ten times more? Classic...). I only posted 2 oe 3 times to respond to GoldenEagle and Blackadar, just keeping the theme I had started alive, but I didn't see the need to continue it long after that. I had a point, and I made it, and I moved on.

But then Happy went absolutely blitzo. He started searching out all of GoldenEagle's threads (GoldenEagle had 3-4, too, I think--sheesh, GoldenEagle, lots of topics!) and responding in them about NASCAR, trying hopelessly to threadjack them all. Apparently I don't have the topic starting frequency that Golden Eagle has, because Happy had to go to at least page two to revive a dead thread I had started about Ignoring people. The unintentional comedy of someone so apt to be Ignored trying to threadjack a thread about Ignoring was just classic--I had to point that out to him. His response was to call me a jackass, and he got banned (and well deserved, IMO, not that I cared in any big way about his namecalling either).

Really, Happy's massive threadjacking attempts and his bringing up my Ignore thread and the intense defensiveness he displayed were much more sources of humor than annoyance or anger for me. I was laughing my ass off last night dealing with this clown. And that probably makes me much more of a troll with regards to this situation, I suppose.

I'm not saying I want to be suspended--in fact, I am typing this out just to lay out the truth of what was happening, and to show my underlying motivations for my own threadjack, because I don't want to be suspended--but if that is the decision of the moderators than so be it, and I would accept that punishment (and believe that it is at least partially deserving).

As for NASCAR, no, I'm not a fan, and I don't consider it an athletic endeavor for certain, and depending on where my definition of a sport is, it is on questionable grounds with me as well. Quite frankly, cars bore the hell out of me (I know I am in a minuscule minority in that respect), and seeing guys drive cars around in circles really fast doesn't exactly get me going.

But I have a healthy respect for NASCAR and auto racing in general as a competition, and I am amazed at the technological feats that the crew pits perform to get these cars to go as fast as they do. I believe NASCAR's role as a competition of note is further extended by the pressure to perform at high sppeds (both ont he track and in the pit), and the risks that the drivers take in operating those machines.

So, to those of you NASCAR fans who think this whole thing was some massive conspiratorial attack on the sport of autoracing, I assure you I bear your sport no enmity, and whatever actions I took were completely in response to the ridiculous behaviors of certain NASCAR fans like Happy and Jersey Shore, and taken because of those behaviors--and not whatever it was they happened to be discussing (which, in this case, was NASCAR).

I can’t let Chief take all the blame for himself. That would not be fair. What Chief said is pretty much the truth. We did thread jack the NASCAR thread, but thread jacking happens so often around here that I didn’t think anything of it. In fact, I responded to Chief’s question before even looking at the most controversial thread. Once I looked at that, I saw what Chief was doing and egged on the point a little bit more. Blackadar joined in too. Happy obviously did not take well to this teasing and exploded.

He challenged me to an all out flame war which I refused to get into it with him. Like Chief said, he found some of my posts and posted NASCAR material in them (by the way, Chief, in my defense, some of those threads were over a month old :D). At one time, he even posted something about NASCAR in a recent dynasty thread I had started. That post was quickly deleted and we will probably never know who deleted it. He thought this would piss me off but I only found it to be really funny. I did not want to tell he was not making me mad because I was enjoying watching him make a fool out of himself. I found even more funny when the posts revived became active topics again about the original topic, which seemed to be counter productive to what he seemed to be doing.

Did I troll and try to antagonize him into getting mad about non-NASCAR replies in his thread? Sure. Did I play a big role in the fiasco last night? Of course. If any punishment is dealt out to Chief or Blackadar then I certainly deserve my share too. However the situation could have been much worse if I would have responded to Happy’s postings but I knew that the proper authorities would handle it.

As far as NASCAR, I don’t have a problem at all with the “sport”. If you reread the thread you will even see at one time I defended it. That was before I knew all the facts from other threads. I did not attack NASCAR, but simply the guy who started the thread. I have no problem with NASCAR.

For everyone originally involved in the heavy fighting during the past couple of days I have the following to say :

For Blackadar and Golden Eagle : You guys should have known better than to have attacked Happy 29 and Jersey shore .
You two asa elder members of this board therefore being Ethical Standard Bearers should have just taken a moment to size up the situation andsucked it up and drove on .....If you dont like his comments a nice ignore button is on the screen......This should have never happened if you guys would have stopped and pressed ignore .

For The Moderators : I for one don't like the gestapo like tactics that you guys pulled on every suspicious Screen Name :

If you guys would have just fired a warning shot across the bow ,ie warned happy 29 and Jersey shore and all that were banned to stop their rants and chill out then maybe this incident wouldn't have been unleashed on the community .

The Solution : Well the only solution is that all members involved in the fighting on Saturday and Sunday have their accounts suspended for 7 days as a head cooling phase and be re instated and put on a probation to see if they will turn hostile and if they do have them suspended or axed . Its that simple .

Well I for one can see that a bigger conflict is heating up and that members like myself and maybe others too have seen that
a few members are given the privelage to do as they please while others who arent in the ''circle'' are suspended for petty things .....I feel that once Pandora's Box is released we might never recover from the effects of it .

to you it is perfectly acceptable to have some guys spawn multiple screen names and basically hold the whole board hostage while they spam bs in all the threads because that's what happened. For me, I'd prefer the so called "gestapo" moderation to that trash.

It's not about people disagreeing or a battle going over the edge. In that case, let them fight and in fact that happens all the time and no one is banned or time outed. Abusing the board however, which they did, has to be stopped and it was.

I don't see the problem and truthfully it looks like you're trying to start some where none exists. Gold 101 was one who created one of the fake characters who was spamming the board and deserves his timeout. He wasn't playing in good faith; he was jobbing the board. I can't believe you know he's been banned but don't know why. You've been reading the board and responding in the threads in question.

I guess it's no fun for you unless someone is ruining the boards for others. Any attempt to disrupt that must be tolerated and taken in good humor or else it's obviously a big plot by the man to ruin your day. How sad it must be to be so paranoid.

Those guys got what they deserved. When they come back, they'll start with a clean slate with most users and unless they go over the line egregiously they'll have no problems.

Hell, look at skippy. He had many wars on here and I dogged him on many of the early ones; it was fun and he and I are alright. No one got banned or even warned and we all went at each other hot and heavy. Now, his latest spamming got him a time out. It's really simple and no darker motive exists. No gestapo raids to stifle ideas or thoughts or personalities or anything. No ulterior motives.

You might want to quit trying to make such motives exist if your "motives" are actually honorable.

You know, what is it with the "circle" jerkers?? That's what I will now call people who always insist that an inside circle is ruling a message board and punishing outsiders. I mean, man, I see it on so many boards that it must be something in the gene pool; maybe a "cabal" gene in the DNA or something. I ask because this is one of the least moderated boards going and definately one of the least that has been going so long. Hey, I wasn't a HM fan but I really don't know what he did to deserve what he got. I'm sure he did something but I don't know what and I wasn't very comfortable with his banning. Still, like I said before, the community lives on and I'm not going to let the fate of a guy who apparantly knew the line he was walking on was thin and then stepped over it make me go into an "it's the inner circle against the rest of us" mode.

gold was suspended when someone pointed out to me that Jersey had point-blank said in another thread that he was gold. I went to the thread and confirmed that he had said it, then I took action. Well, it turns out that not only is Jersey a troll and a threadjacker, but a liar as well. Gold sent me a cordial, respectful e-mail stating his case. I checked on some things, and it turns out Jersey was lying, and I reinstated gold's account.
