With all the recent hype over LeBron/Freedy Adu/The 3 year old basketball kid, etc., I heard another interesting case of the young man making dough.

Earlier this year there was a thread about Sidney Crosby, labeled as "The Next One" by many NHL scouts. He played at a private hocckey school in Minnesota last season, and was recently drafted #1 overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft, where the best of the best 17-20 year olds play, if they're not already in the NHL. He's 15 by the way.

Anyway, I'm an equipment buyer for a hockey store in Minnesota and was talking with a sales rep from Sher-Wood, whose main line is hockey sticks for those unfamiliar, and he mentioned that Sher-Wood just signed this 15 year old to a 5 year, 5 million dollar contract.

I questioned his amateur status, but I guess there are loopholes like deferred payments, incentives, etc.

Just another to add to the list.

Hmmm, I'd like to find out more about that, I've never heard about that before.

I don't know about endorsement deals, but I do know that if you play Jr. A in Canada, you can't go play college hockey after that...so they probably receive a small stipend (I got cut, so I never go to find out :/)

BTW, you guys remember Lindros' big endorsement deal w/ Score, right? Maybe they have to sponsor the whole team or something???
