I have been league bowliing for a total of 7 years now.
I started back in 1987 and had an average of 127. I know I did stink at it at first. I stopped but picked it back up in 1996.
I picked it up again 7 years ago and I have gotten my average up to 188.
I have finally gotten somewhat consistent.
Here is how I have improved:
1987: 127 average
1996: 142
1997: 149
1998: 163
1999: 171
2002: 174
2003: 188
The highest game I ever bowled was a 242 last season.
Also, I have 1 League Championship that I have been apart of back in 1997.
If you are bowler, what is your average and how long have you been bowling?
There is nothing more fun, then having 3 of your best buddies along with their wives or dates down at the local bowling establishment.
It offers great fellowship and companionship as well with your friends.
Lots of laughs as well.
What would be great if alot us here could get together and meet at a local bowling center and just bowl and talk about FOFC and other news.
:D
I haven't bowled in a league in about 5 years now, when I was in 6th grade. I bowled for 5 years on a league though starting when I was when in 2nd grade.
2nd grade - 68 - League Runner's Up
3rd grade - 98 - League Runner's Up
4th grade - 105 - Third Place
5th grade - 124 - League Champions
6th grade - 151 - League Champions - 3rd Highest Average in league. A teammate of mine was 2nd.
High Game - 192 (Twice) - Once when I was 8 and again when I was 12.
Also my team finished 2nd in a city-wide Grand Rapids tournament when I was in 5th grade.
I've only bowled a few times since then so I was probably better in 6th grade then I am now.

I'm carrying about a 184 in the summer league. I've been bowling about 6 years now. My high game is a 266. I had the first nine and choked in the tenth, leaving the baby split. Maybe next time. :)

better luck next time, ausonny!!
Don't you hate when you are bowling a perfect, but no one really notices it until you get to the 9th or 10 frame?
Then all gets quiet and it just blows your whole game!
The most I have ever had is 7 strikes in row to start a game.

Usually throw between 175-185, depending on the lane conditions of the league. I have been as high as 194, but that was several years ago when I had the time to bowl multiple leagues. My high game is 267, high series is somewhere around 670, can't totally recall.

My brother had to friends that bowled semi-pro. One now goes to college for free because of his bowling.

I bowl, but have never been in a league. It goes in cycles, but I probably only go a few times a year. I probably average around a 150, with an all-time high of a 232 (or 228, don't remember exactly)

195 average here...As far as high games go, I have a heart-breaker to share...I had a 268 in high school, then a 278 in college (first 6 strikes, 8-spare, then strike out)....but the worst was just this year...started a game with an open frame (missed a 10-pin)...threw the next 11 strikes to finish at 279...of course, the damn 1st frame cost me a chance at 300...to make matters worse, I started the next game with the first 4 strikes...So 16 strikes in a row, only needed 12, but of course not in the same game...

I have never bowled in a league but the last time the family and I went I bowled a 281. Highest game before that was 160 something. Couldn't miss that night.

I usually compete in one league a year, and have just been practicing more and more and working with a coach for the past year or so. I think my average was 17x this past winter, down from the previous two league seasons, but I usually compete in tournaments around 210 at this point.
Leagues pretty much just bore the crap out of me, which is too bad. I enjoy competing in tournaments and that's where most of my focus is.
I practice 5-6 days a week, usually on my lunch hour at a bowl that is right around the corner from my office.

Wait a minute.
I thought the point of bowling was much like golf. Get a group of people together, get increasingly drunk over the course of a couple hours, and make up scores.

I was in a league once. I think that my average was around 120 or so. My best ever game was around 175. I pretty much suck at bowling, but it certainly can be lots of fun...

By the way, I was always a bowler who pretty much just threw the ball straight. My normal motion may have given the ball the slighest movement to the left, but I didn't hook it by any means. At times, when I was really sucking it up, I'd just give up, grab a 12 or 13-pounder (usually used a 15 or 16 for "normal bowling), turn the ball around so I only used two fingers (no thumb), and put a gigantic hook on the ball. The funny thing is, I now bowl that way all the time, and I've gotten better than when I threw the heavier straight ball. Now I just have to find a better way to pick up a 10-pin.

I stopped about 15 years ago, when I was about 15. I had a 160 average, and a 266 high game, something like seven strikes, 8-spare, strike strike 8-spare i think.
I wish I would have kept bowling. Who knows what I would be up to now. It's sad that I bowled my highest game of 192 when I was eight years old. Now when I go out I bowl only 140 or 150 games.

I love bowling. In my recent IM league, I had the second highest average with a 151. If I would have bowled my normal average (~160), I would have had the highest average in the league. My best game ever is a 236.

Has anybody ever bowled the magic 300??
There is this guy in my league and we had a conversation a few weeks ago and he asked me what my high game was and I told him 242, he was like oh really??
Then I asked what his high game was and he said that he only had 12 300 games since he had been bowling, but he said it like it wasn't good enough.
I responded by saying, only 12 huh?
His name is on the wall of fame as having 4 300 games in the alley that I am bowling in right now.
296 is my best. There's no feeling quite like staring down #12. People who get 300 amaze me that they're able to function well-enough to get it anywhere near the pocket. I hope I get another chance in my life to make good.

I also bowl in a league. My average going into this week was 188 I believe. My high game was a 279. I hit the first two. Got tapped in the third frame and then struck out from there. A couple weeks ago we were bowling next to a guy who was on his way to a 300. He hit the first 11. I always thought the worst feeling in bowling would have to be hitting 11 straight and then burying that 12th ball only to have the 10 pin standing solid as a rock for a 299. He topped that though. He buried his shot and as the 10 pin was falling another pin hit it and knocked the damn thing back into place. 299.
