I love it. Were you looking for some specific information, or just an overall impression?

Home of the Dallas Cowpies. To be avoided at all costs.

Overall, I love going down their. My family lives in Trophy Club. I love that DFW is not one cluster, but's it widely spread all over the metroplex. I really love to move down to the area after graduation, with so many restaurant corporate chains based in Dallas wiht my Hotel and reestaurant management Degree.

Seems like their is alot to do. You have your sports (Mavs, Rangers, Cowgirls (hey, it's NFL Football), Stars, Burn and a few minor league teams, as well as your college sports). Arlington seems like a "day out" kind of spot, with the Six Flags theme and water parks and the ballpark. You have recreation their. Shopping is no shortage, it's always plentiful. Restaurant dining is the largest per capita in the country, no probs their :). I never been to the Arts District, not sure where it is, but seems good. Have a major airline hub, as well as Love Field. Schools seem really good.

I lived there for 2 years in the early 80's, and my parents moved back around 1994, and we've visited a number of times. They say all anyone does there is shop and eat. Of course, for some people, that's all they want to do.

It's very spread out, but I view that as a shortcoming sometimes. Your post gives me a different view on it, though! I'll try to think about that while I'm commuting 20 miles back to the house tonight. :)
Yes, there are a lot of resturant/hotel corporations based down here. Off the top of my head, I can think of Wyndam, Brinker, and Club Corp.
Sounds like you have things pretty scoped out as far a where there is to do, though! The Arts District is in downtown Dallas, but Fort Worth also has the Bass Preformance Hall. I saw Phantom there an it was great. Deep Ellum is also in downtown Dallas, with lots of bars and resturants to eat at, as well as shops and art exhibits.

I love living here. There's always something interesting to do, the weather is usually nice (though we've been getting too much rain lately), and for the most part people are friendly. The one thing that gets me, though, is the traffic. Seems like there's always construction or an accident on the highways.
But overall, I find it a great place to live...

Well they should install speed limiters in the cars they sell down there. We have a saying in oklahoma. If a car goes by ya, and your doing 95mph, its probably someone from texas :D

Hey, I resemble that remark... :)
And we have a saying down here that if someone's going 60 in the fast lane they must be from Oklahoma...

I been to the Stockyards. Never been to the Perfromance Hall. Can you give me an lookout on the Arts District. How is the Medicial side of the city? Good children's or cancer hospitals?
How does my post give u a differenet spin on it?

Well, I haven't been downtown in quite some time, but there is a lot to do. There is the West End, which has some clubs and a small mall. The Dallas Museum of Art is a great place, as well as the Dallas World Aquarium. It's been a while since I've been down there, but I usually haunted Deep Ellum. Great clubs down there, with great music.
D-FW has some of the best children's hospitals in the country. Cook's Childrens is in Fort Worth, and Scottish Rights Hospital is close to Downtown Dallas. Southwest Medical center is a leading teaching hospital. I don't know about specific cancer hospitals.
The different spin was the "spread out" thing. Sometimes I get beaten down by my drive, and the fact that you have to drive everywhere in Dallas. But if you think about it, it's better than living with people right on top of you. Lots of elbow room, ya know? :D

If you're into more of the nightlife/party/fast living thing, Dallas is the place to be.
If you want the more laid back/slow pace/friendlier living place, Ft. Worth cannot be beat.
If you are a millionaire, try Highland Park (though many mansions and private schools are in north Dallas/Preston area).
If you are just rich, but not overly so, try Frisco or Southlake (used to be Plano, but now moving outward more).
In other words, the "Metroplex" has everything for everyone, pretty much, if you know where to be.

Dallas is great. I grew up in the metroplex (The Colony (5 years), Carrollton (7 years), Arlington (2 years)). Having been away for almost 10 years, I'm about to move back to the area. Things are looking up for AC. :)

I actually like the spreadoutness cause the drive is so much better I think, driving by DFW and seeing planes take off over you, driving through the big buildings, the AA Arena, ect...makes drive seem faster. Also, you always have close access to recreation, shops, restaurants, ect...

Deep Ellum rocks. Although when all the bars close I highly recommend quickly making your way home. Had some of the best beer ever at Coppertanks. They make a chocolate beer (I know it sounds gross) that is awesome.
Also quite the learning experience at Deely Plaza and the Schoolbook Repository Museum. If ever in Dallas this is a must visit.

coppertank closed over a year ago, unfortunately. it was replaced by america's pub, which last about 3 months, max, before it closed. now that huge building is empty. someone is taking a financial beating on that one right now.

yea, mine's 25 miles. 30 minutes if no rain or wrecks. an hour if either happen (or, if someone just spits on the road, people tend to treat that the same as a monsoon...)

I always curious to where the richest people of the city, manisons and that. Not sure where Preston is. I am familiar with Trophy Club. Wonder where Cuban lives, like to see his house, lol.

ACStrider- I spent some time at UTD. Great school, especially for computer classes. Is this graduate or undergraduate work? My Dad lives about a mile from UTD. If you need anything while you are here, PM me, ok? :D
SunDancer- SMU has a pretty good MBA program. If I'm not mistaken, Cox School of Business at SMU is one of the top in the nation.
In Dallas, the rich live in Highland Park. I'm not sure if Cuban lives there or not...he's one to do things out of the ordinary. He might live in Valley Ranch or Plano. Plenty of rich people there. Highland Park is more of the old money crowd, but not exclusively. That's just the stereotype. Modano lives in Highland Park, for example.
Preston runs right through the heart of North Dallas, and it used to be the main thoroughfare before all of the interstates were built. It runs from Frisco up north almost to downtown. Find Preston road and you can find your way home!
