DDRMAX (Dance Dance Revolution)

As I walked into a Colorado Best Buy Wednesday night, there were a bunch of people gathered around a widescreen TV, a ps2, two dance mats, and a game called DDRMAX.

If you haven't seen this game in action, go somewhere and see how much fun this thing is.

I bought it for my wife (yea, ok) and this is my longest break I've had from the game. It has 65 songs (mostly techo) to dance to, and basically you have four direction arrows on a mat that connects to the joystick port of the ps2. As the music plays, you follow the arrows on the screen and step on the same ones on the mat (dancing to the beat, so to speak). It's quite a workout, especially on harder levels.

Total price was $60 and I'm kind of shocked I purchased it on a whim like that. I'm glad I did. They are doing a sequal soon. I read they have an arcade version as well.

there's about 8 arcade versions, there's also a PC version, and various simulator that you can set up. I love this game :)

Yea', I have a friend who is like the New York State girls' champion. She's crazy good, and it's insane to watch.

Sometimes people will freestyle, which is also really neat. Basically, they memorize an easier song, and just do all sorts of moves and stuff, without ever really looking at the screen.

You should see the game centers (arcades) out here. They have about 8000 versions of the game in Japan. You can't qualify as an arcade without at least one of each of DDR, Drummania, Guitar Freaks, and Beatmania. You also have a Keyboard Mania, Pop'n'Music (a simpler version of Beatmania with pop songs and TV themes), and a game based on Taiko (traditional Japanese drumming).

I see something that sounds like this at Dave and Busters... If its the same game, I have never played it, but its fun to watch two types of people play it... 1) the good looking women (nothing like watching cuties jumping around, dancing in front of everyone) and 2) Big ole guys who can't dance (Sometimes these guys who have no business on this game get up there, and its the funniest thing I think I have ever seen...)

Neither am I. I am terrible. But if you think people who can tear up DDR are impressive you should see some of the guys slammin' away on Drummania, which you actually have to have skill as a drummer to beat. These guys jack up these tracks to 250% of the normal speed and then go through a song without a single error.

I take my little boy to the arcades every weekend and of course there is a dance thing there that is by far the most popular attraction. The one we go to in the mall has a core of regulars and when you get two going in tandem, it is incredible to watch. I cannot think of any game in the history of arcades (and I go back to Pong and Breakout) that I would suck at in the worse way possible.

This is easily the biggest game addiction I've had recently. I'm one of the strange people who actually likes the music a whole lot. I've DL'ed like 300+ of the DDR songs, then other songs similar to them. I've put together 3 different CD mixes and am working on my 4th.

I also just DL'ed this awesome PC program called StepMania, which emulates DDR. I got like 316 songs from my stepcousin, and I'll play that for hours. I just need to get a PS2/PC adaptor so I can dance to it. Haven't danced much recently since my back has been feeling funny.

I'm one of those guys who has no right dancing, being 6'3" and 230, I look like DDR: Shrek's version. Best game idea ever.

Oh yeah, that game at Dave&Buster's is called "Pump It Up" and is far inferior to DDR :D

I use DWI (Dance with intensity).. any chance you can zip those songs up and put em on a FTP somewhere? :)

Ummm...this is kinda scary. I always think it's frightening when I see a dude at D&B dancing away like a maniac on one of those games, and now I find out that my on-line home is addicted to it...
